ER1 (3) HELMETS FOR CBRN AND EMERGENCY RESCUE OPERATIONS The current UK Police CBRN protective clothing and equipment kit, consists of hooded inner and outer protective suits, gloves, overboots, re-hydration vest, a respirator with CBRN canister, and the ER1(3) helmet. The ER1 (3) helmet was selected by the UK Police, following an extensive trial by the Police National CBRN Centre, through the Operational Response Programme A main requirement of the testing was to establish that the helmet would not interfere with the protective faceseal between the wearer s face, the respirator, and the hoods of the protective suit. HISL carried out trials to establish that the helmets can be worn with a CBRN ensemble, without affecting the required protection factor for full facemasks of 2000 as specified in EN 136:1998. The results obtained recorded a protection factor in excess of 100,000. In summary, the testing requires the wearer to walk on a treadmill at 6 kph within a test chamber containing a sodium concentration, and carry out a series of exercises involving various head movements and speech The respirator is connected to the external measuring instrumentation via tubes connected into the facemask which sample the air within the mask. (pulsed sampling technique) At the end of each test sequence a sample of the air within the chamber is taken. The concentrations of sodium within the mask and chamber are measured using a sodium flame photometer and the ratio of the two concentrations establishes the protection factor. Tested to ensure no interference with respirator faceseal (To EN 136:1998) Weighs less than 800 grams Manufactured from heat and impact resistant thermoplastic Adjustable headband, browpad, and chinstrap (Wear with and without the respirator and hoods) Easy donning adjustments with gloved hands Retractable integral visor (Worn retracted when wearing the CR1 ensemble) & options on faceshield, hearing protection and more. Testing respirator faceseal and helmet fit to establish that protection factor, in excess of that required by EN136:1998, is maintained Helmet fit adjustable by locking ratchet handwheel, sized to be operated by gloved hand Manufactured to EEC PPE Directives HELMET INTEGRATED SYSTEMS www.helmets.co.uk Helmet Integrated Systems Ltd.
