YKC FLYBALL QUALIFIER REGULATIONS DEFINITION The YKC hsts ne Flyball cmpetitin final at Crufts. T qualify fr this final, teams must cmpete in YKC Flyball classes held at appinted licensed shws thrughut the year, these classes can be fund at www.ykc.rg.uk Flyball qualifiers run frm the 1 st January t the 31 st December fr the fllwing year s Crufts. Each team MAY additinally have: 2 n. Reserve Handlers 2 n. Reserve Dgs Each team MUST bring: At least ne Flyball Bx (a spare bx is advised) Un-punctured, standard size tennis balls Teams may switch the named handlers/dgs fr named reserve handlers/dgs between races. Teams that have previusly qualified fr the upcming Crufts final cannt enter further YKC Flyball cmpetitins this calendar year. This is due t the nature f the cmpetitin, which is run n a knckut basis, and it wuld be unfair fr unqualified teams t be kncked ut by a qualified team. YKC/FLY Issue 6 Octber 2017 Page 3 f 7
HANDLERS Members must be aged 6 years and up t, but nt including, 18 th birthday and ne handler can be aged 18 years and up t but nt including 25 th birthday. All handlers must be a fully paid up member f the YKC befre entering a Flyball cmpetitin. Please bear in mind that handler s ages are calculated n the first day f Crufts nt n the day f the qualifier Handlers wh are 25 years and abve by the first day f Crufts are n lnger eligible t be a YKC member and can therefre nt cmpete. Handlers may nt cmpete fr, r captain, any ther YKC Flyball Team. BOX LOADERS Bx laders must be aged 6 years and up t, but nt including, 25 th birthday. If a bx lader is ver 18, this will NOT cunt twards the ttal number f 18-24 year lds. The bx lader must be a fully paid up member f the YKC befre entering a Flyball cmpetitin. Bx Laders may nt cmpete fr, r captain, any ther YKC Flyball Team. RESERVE HANDLERS Members must be aged 6 years and up t, but nt including, 18 th birthday and ne handler can be aged 18 years and up t but nt including 25 th birthday. If the main team already has a member wh is aged 18 years and up t but nt including 25 th birthday then that team must nly use members wh are aged 6 years and up t, but nt including, 18 th birthday as reserves. Reserve handlers must be a fully paid up member f the YKC befre entering a Flyball cmpetitin. Reserve handlers may nt cmpete fr, r captain, any ther Flyball team. TEAM CAPTAIN The Team captain des NOT have t be a YKC member, the team captain shuld be a respnsible adult (18+) The team must appint a team captain t becme the pint f cntact fr the team. The team captain may assist the team in the ring. Assistance shuld be in the frm f: attending judges briefing, rganising the team, transferring used tennis balls back t the bx lader between races, helping small r yung YKC members t restrain large dgs while nt cmpeting. Assistance shuld NOT include releasing the dg t perfrm a run whilst a race is in prgress. The team captain may nt cmpete fr, r captain, any ther YKC Flyball Team. DOGS Only dgs f eighteen (18) calendar mnths f age and ver n the day f cmpetitin are eligible fr entry. A dg may nt be named in mre than ne (1) YKC Flyball Team. (even as a reserve) A YKC handler is permitted t run a dg in the YKC Flyball final which is als being run in an adult cmpetitin. Unlike standard Kennel Club Flyball, there are n restrictins n breed f dg in the YKC Flyball cmpetitin. i.e. all dgs may be Cllies if desired. Dgs will all cmpete at the same height (The height f the hurdles must be 25.4cm (10inchs)) Dgs entered must be registered at the Kennel Club t enter Kennel Club licenced shws. ORDER OF PROCEEDINGS The Qualifiers and the final at Crufts will be run as a Single Eliminatin Turnament. This means that if a team lses nce, they are kncked ut. The exceptin t this rule is when three (3) teams have entered int a qualifier. If three (3) teams enter a qualifier, the cmpetitin shuld be run as a Duble Eliminatin Turnament. This is t prevent 1 team qualifying autmatically n a bye. Duble eliminatin turnaments require a team t lse twice befre being kncked ut f the cmpetitin (even in the final). The initial draw at qualifiers fr the teams shuld be dne at the judges briefing by drawing names frm a hat. The draw fr the final at Crufts will be cnducted by the YKC management team nce entries have clsed. This will be adjudicated and witnessed by anther member f kennel club staff unaffiliated with the YKC. The team that wins the best f three (3) races will mve frward t the next rund. It is up t the judge whether all three (3) races will ccur if a team wins in the first tw. PRIZES AND AWARDS The first and secnd placed team at each qualifying shw listed n the YKC website will be invited t take part in the Final at Crufts. Shuld nly ne (1) team enter a qualifier they must demnstrate that they can cmplete a race withut any individual dg exceeding mre than 1 re-run. Shuld nly tw (2) teams enter a qualifier they must demnstrate that they can cmplete a race withut any dg exceeding mre than 1 re-run. The judge f the qualifier must be cntent that any team that qualifies fr Crufts is capable f cmpeting and is safe t d s. If a team is disqualified, the qualificatin des nt rll dwn t the next placing The YKC will nly accept wins frm classes at apprved qualifying events as listed n the YKC website. Any award frm a shw which has nt been apprved by the YKC Management Team will nt qualify fr Crufts. It is imprtant that yu check that the wrding in shw schedules crrespnds with the wrding printed in these regulatins; if in dubt please cntact the Yung Kennel Club Team befre entering. COMPETITION REGULATIONS FOR COMPETITIORS N persns shall carry ut punitive crrectin r harsh handling f a dg at any time. Fd shall nt be carried in the hand r given t a dg in the ring. A dg must attempt t clear every hurdle. Hwever if a hurdle is kncked dwn, the dg must nt be penalised, prvided it clears the hurdle as if it were standing. A dg must re-run at the end f the line if: An early start is indicated. It des nt attempt every jump. It des nt trigger the bx. It des nt return with the ball. Its handler s feet crss the start line during its run (with the exceptin f resetting a jump r retrieving a lst ball). In the judge s pinin it started its run befre the preceding dg had reached the start/finish line. The bx lader is faulted fr assisting the dg. If a dg r any team member bstructs the ppsing team during a race, the ffending team will frfeit the race. A dg chasing a lse ball is nt necessarily causing an bstructin. The first team t have its furth dg, (r the last t be re-run) acrss the finish line, with any part f the dg s bdy, wins the race. Only dgs & handlers wh are members f the riginal team, r named as reserves n the entry frm, will be permitted t cmpete in the final. (In exceptinal circumstances, replacement dgs r handlers will be cnsidered but must have signed written apprval by the YKC Office befre the final). COMPETITION REGULATIONS SHOW ORGANISERS The Flyball final at Crufts will be held using the traffic light system. The qualifying classes may use either an electrnic traffic light system r the flip-bard system The judge has verall respnsibility fr the cmpetitin and will cntrl bth the start and finish. There must be a steward psitined at the end f the start/finish line. Tw stewards must be appinted t ensure that the bx and hurdle rules are nt infringed. Reruns must be clearly indicated. If, in the pinin f the judge, a bx malfunctins during a race, the race must be stpped, a spare bx must be substituted and the race re-run. If the spare bx als breaks dwn the team frfeits the race.
