P2HS Project Purpose and Rules The purpose of the P2HS is to provide a project that will expose the exhibitors to commercial cattle production, including the purchasing, development, breeding and exhibition of beef heifers. This project is not part of the San Patricio and Aransas County A&H Show Auction; therefore, exhibitors can sell in the P2HS Auction as well as the San Patricio and Aransas County A&H Show Auction. However, exhibitors must abide by the Bylaws of the San Patricio and Aransas County A&H Show. Tag-in: 1. Exhibitors must read and be familiar with the General Bylaws of San Patricio and Aransas County A&H Show. Exhibitors must be present for judging. If an exhibitor cannot be present for judging, then he/she must obtain approval from the San Patricio and Aransas County A&H Show Board of Directors for a substitute exhibitor. 2. Heifers will be weighed, tattooed, calf hood vaccinations, and tagged the week of October 8-12, 2018, time TBA at Hamilton Ranch Headquarters on Highway 89 in Sinton, Texas. The P2HS Committee will select a Veterinarian to be on site. 3. Heifers must be assigned to a pen; two to four heifers constitute a pen. Only two heifers will be eligible to be shown. Example: At weigh-in heifers must be assigned to an individual exhibitor. Those heifers must stay in that pen. 4. Each exhibitor may have two alternates, not to exceed four heifers per pen, including the alternate. 5. 725 lbs. average of the pen of heifers.. 6. Animals may be grazed or fed, and will be judged as replacement heifers. No nurse cows will be allowed. Each heifer must gain an average of one pound per day from tag-in to check-in.

Check-In: 1. Heifers can be calf hood vaccinated for brucellosis at check-in. If a heifer is not calf hood vaccinated for brucellosis at check-in, proof must be provided in the form of tag, tattoo and veterinary certificate. 2. All heifers must be open (not bred) and have never calved prior to the check-in. All heifers will be palpated by a licensed veterinarian selected by the P2HS Committee at check-in. 3. Check-in will be at the Hamilton Ranch Headquarters, Highway 89 in Sinton, Texas on January 17, 2019 time TBA. Interview: 1. There will be a Junior, Intermediate and Senior interview if there are 20 entries. Three buckles/awards. 2. Exhibitors will be required to participate in an interview beginning at TBA on the day of the show. Interview scores will affect the final placing. 3. Exhibitors are NOT allowed to take anything into the interview with them, no cell phones or notes are allowed in the interview room. 4. Once the interview is conducted, the exhibitor is required to leave the interview room. 5. The only individuals who are allowed in the interview room are the exhibitor, the judge and one P2HS committee member. 6. The Annette and Rusty Griffith Memorial Replacement Heifer Award will be given to the exhibitor that excelled during his/her interview, as selected by the judge. This award will be announced at the P2HS and presented at the Auction. General Provisions: 1. Have to validate as an individual. 2. Change to pen of 2 and validate 2 to 4. 3. If the heifers are deemed unsafe by the San Patricio and Aransas County A&H Show Board of Directors, the cattle will not be judged in the show ring but will be judged in their assigned pens.

4. Exhibitors may not use hay for bedding or feed during the P2HS. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH EXHIBITOR TO CLEAN HIS/HER PEN AND ALLEY DAILY. Each exhibitor is responsible for getting his/her pens ready before check-in. 5. No official record book is required to be maintained by the exhibitors. 6. A commission of five percent (5%) will be reserved from each sale. This commission will be placed in a bank account maintained by the P2HS Committee and allocated to general expenses and future scholarships. 7. All heifers will be sold at the P2HS Auction. If an exhibitor desires to purchase their own pen of heifers during the sale, they will be charged the five percent (5%) commission. 8. Heifers must be kept in San Patricio County, Aransas County or a county contiguous to San Patricio County or Aransas County. 9. Only heifer exhibitors and Committee members will be allowed in the back of arena with heifers. 10. Allow pen participants to sell extra heifers via private treaty from auction. Extras will be assembled in large pen at end of arena. No commission shall be charged for this transaction. 11. Checks on sponsored Heifers will be made out to both exhibitor and the ranch or individual. 13. Two judges will be used for the Pen of Two Heifer show. 14. Heifers will be judged before the interview. 15. No spike horns (heifers must be dehorned or tipped) or a diameter of quarter dollar. 16. Commission will be 5%. 17. Ear tags example: Pen 1 11-15 Pen 2 21-25 etc.

Judging Guidelines: 1. Projects will be judged on the following point basis: a. Quality, Confirmation and Condition 60 pts b. Interview 20 pts c. Structural Soundness 10 pts d. Frame Size for Age 10 pts e. Area Adaptability 10 pts f. Uniformity 10 pts 2. The P2HS Committee will be selected by the San Patricio and Aransas County A&H Show Board of Directors. 3. The P2HS Committee will choose one individual annually to judge the P2HS. This individual will judge the heifers and the interview.
