What parents need to know? Your coach will contact you prior to September 10, 2018 Not all Games and Practices will be held at the Westside Family YMCA, as the number of teams may exceed our gym or field usage, so external facilities may host practices and/or games. In addition we combine many leagues with the Davis Scott Family YMCA and games may be played there on alternating weekends. Outdoor practices will be designated by coaches on day, time, and location that benefit the majority of the team and coaches availability. Practice will be once a week for an hour and can begin as early has 5:00pm but, no later than 8:00pm for indoor or outdoor sports. Contact Information for participants is taken from registration forms. If information changes please contact the Westside Family YMCA with the updated info. Your child is encouraged to bring their ball to practice and games (for warm-up). Weather: If your practice or game gym is closed due to inclement weather, then your practice or game may be cancelled. Communication regarding cancellations is handled through your team s coach and the PlayerSpace webpage. Full Refunds may be given prior to the first practice. Before the first game there is a $20.00 administrative fee for all refunds. After the season has started there are no refunds. The YMCA will do its best to honor requests for teams and/or locations. However Requests are NOT guaranteed. Refunds will not be issued if the YMCA is not able to honor coach/player request or practice requests. Referees will always do their best to call a fair game. However, we all make mistakes, and each one of us sees things from different perspectives. All spectators, parents and participants are EXPECTED to support the officials. Any negative comments or gestures towards an official will result in immediate suspension, and/or expulsion. Always remember: The child first, the sport second! End of Season Recognition: As part of their participation in the Youth Super Sports programs, all participants will be given a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication through the season. (This will be in the form of a sports medal) Any other awards, trophies, or team decided end of season recognitions, will not be handled by the YMCA staff. The YMCA Philosophy of Youth Sports The YMCA Youth Super Sports program philosophy stands on seven pillars that lay the foundation to ensure your child will develop a lifelong appreciation for sports. Seven Pillars of YMCA Youth Sports 1. Everyone plays; during the season everyone receives equal practice time and plays at least half of every game. 2. Safety first; we ve modified each sport to make it safer and more enjoyable to play. 3. Fair play; fair Play is about playing by the rules. 4. Positive competition; we believe competition is a positive process when the pursuit of victory is kept in the right perspective. 5. Family involvement; YMCA Youth Super Sports encourages parents to be involved appropriately in their child s participation. 6. Sports for all; we offer programs to all youngsters regardless of their race, gender, religious creed, or ability. 7. Sport for fun; if we take the fun out of the sports for young athletes, we are in danger of the young athletes taking themselves out of sports. YMCA Youth Sports Goals: 1. To build self-esteem 2. To teach social skills, values, communication, and human relations 3. To teach physical skills, fitness, and health 4. To develop responsibility and decision-making skills 5. To enhance leadership skills in youth and adults To build relationships among peers and between parent and child Helping Your Child Enjoy Sports You can help your child enjoy sports by doing the following: Developing a winning perspective Place the perspective of athlete first, winning second. An obsession with winning often produces a fear of failure, resulting in below average performances and upset children. Building your child s self-esteem It takes more than encouragement Show your child unconditional approval and love Promote Healthy Choices Team snacks are not mandatory for every team. If decided on by team, it is suggested that healthy foods and drinks be given to kids. This will assist in helping promote current and future healthy food choices as the kids continue to grow. Emphasizing fun and encouraging your child to do his/her best. The reason to emphasize fun is quite simple: without it, your child may not want to keep playing.

Code of Conduct All participants, parents, and spectators must follow the following policies. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in forfeiture, suspension, or expulsion. Player Code of Conduct I am here to learn and have fun I will respect coaches, officials and players, both on my team and other teams I will not use any language or gestures that could cause bad feelings I will be respectful and will not argue calls with any official I will not play in such a way as to intentionally cause harm to any other player I will recite the sports pledge before each game and will shake hands with my opponents after each game I will try hard and play fair I will abide by all the rules and regulations of the YMCA I will attend every practice and game that I can and I will be responsible to notify my coach if I cannot attend Parents Code of Conduct I will cheer for my child and not yell at him or her I will not argue calls with the officials, neither during, nor after the game I will respect the decision of the coaches, officials and program administrators in all matters I will not engage in any negative behavior towards the other team; their players, coaches or parents I will refrain from the use of alcohol and tobacco products when in a youth sports environment I will place the emotional and physical well being of all children ahead of a personal desire to win I will abide by all the rules and regulations of the YMCA I will stress to my child, and demonstrate by my behavior, the importance of sportsmanship in all areas of play Thank you to all Parents, Participants, and Volunteers!
