FROM THE BRIDGE LAWRENCE SIMPSON, COMMODORE Well the holidays are over which means it will soon be Spring. Ah yes, warm weather, my favorite time. I want to say thank you to all who attended the Commodore's Ball. It was great to see the club full. The band and food were good, and all seemed to enjoy the party. I look forward to the club doing parties like this more often. Come out and enjoy. Check your calendars for the crawfish boils, oyster nights, shrimp spaghetti night and other events to come. With the coming of Spring, sailing begins and many of the racers are chewing at the bit. Come out, watch and support our juniors. You may also want to help the senior racers get to their boats. Some may even find a place aboard if you want to go, just ask. Be sure you can deal with the "warm" air blowing from the stern if venturing out aboard some of our illustrious fleet. All in all I think the club is in for a great year, but we need your participation to make it happen. It is your club to enjoy, support it, and get involved. Thank you all. Lawrence 228-324-2556 raybonels@yahoo.com MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE DIXIE HUCH The following have applied for membership to the Long Beach Yacht Club. The Board of Governors will consider these applications at their regular meeting on March 18 th, 2013: Frances Duncan (Junior) Cameron Borja (Junior) 94 Cedar Place Cove 20280 Longview Rd. Long Beach, MS 39560 Long Beach, MS 39560 Friday Night Lights Where were you when they drew your name for the $250 bar tab on Friday Night? The following were elsewhere on the Friday Night in which their name was drawn: Pat Bordelon, Thomas Baudry, Ron Koenenn, and Robert Mintz. Don t let this happen to you. Come down to enjoy those beautiful sunsets, have a light dinner, perhaps play some cards, and collect your bar tab should your name be drawn. HOUSE COMMITTEE DANA BURKE I know that getting involved with "House" duties will be challenging and a lot of work, but I am looking forward to it. I hope to make a difference, but I will need your help. I am going to place a "Suggestion" box at the club. There will be index cards for you to give feedback on anything from Thursday night "sides" to Friday dinners or special events. Without feedback from our members, we have no idea how to please you. I also want to inform you that the club will have steaks available for sale for those who don't have time to stop by the store for Thursday night's "grill your own". We will give this a try to see how it works. If you'd like to purchase a steak for that evening, just give the club a call and ask Linda to reserve one for you (868-8279). Price will depend on the cost of steaks at the time of purchase. We will offer a "drink of the month", starting in March which will be a "Pomegranate Martini". If you would like to make suggestions, volunteer to help cook something for Friday night dinners or make a dessert for Thursday nights, etc., you can email me at danalburke@cableone.net. Please put in your subject line so that I will know it is not spam mail.

HOUSE COMMITTEE JULIE NOBLE Okay - Rain, Rain Go Away. I think we have had enough for a little while. I'm ready for warmth and sunshine. Mother Nature was pretty good to us for our Mardi Gras party after the Long Beach parade though. It was nothing like the freezing temperatures of last year's Mardi Gras. Thank you to Dixie Peterson- Huch and Terry Long for cooking the red beans. They were delicious. We also had hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings. Thanks to June Wiggins and Dana Burke for serving the food that evening. Ronnie Hammons played music out on the deck and it was great. The Commodore's Ball was held on February 16 th and was one of the best. The decorations were beautiful - thank you Shelda. The food was wonderful (catered by Vicky Brown) and the band was great (Mirror Image). There was a lot of dancing going on. Thank you to EVERYONE who helped make this such a successful and fun time. We had some of the best Crawfish on Friday the 22 nd. A huge thank you to Glenn Bohne and Bo Clarke for being the "head cookers" and helpers Lawrence Simpson and Barry Skellie. (We'll be having Crawfish again next month.) Thank you also to June Wiggins, Dana Burke and Judy Simpson for serving. A big thank you to everyone who helped clean up - especially taking care of getting the garbage to the dumpster (some of those cans were sooo heavy!) Thank you to those who have cooked for Friday night dinners and brought desserts on Thursday and/or Friday. We appreciate you all and couldn't do it without you. And, of course, thank you to Linda for your help with all of our events. Next month we'll be having Crawfish, Oysters and March Martini Madness just to name a few. Please check the calendar and newsletter for all upcoming events. Also, look for flyers and reminders that might be sent to you via email, and, as always, see you at your club. FLEET CAPTAIN HOLLY MURRAY Although we have had a mild winter I am personally ready to spring forward for some warm weather. As always we have a full calendar for our junior sailing program. Coming up in March: Leukemina Cup High School Regatta, March 2/3; Alfonso Regatta at GYC March 16/17; USODA Gulf Coast Champs in Texas March 8/9 in which Ricky Welch will be sailing. Good Luck Ricky! At the Commodore s Ball in February we honored two of our young sailors. Erin Keefer was awarded the James and Mary Hancock Junior Sailor of the Year award. Colby McClain was awarded the Yachtsman of the Year award. I would also like to recognize GYA Junior Commodore Erin Keefer and GYA Junior Vice Commodore Khloe Ohliger. We are very proud of their accomplishments. We wish you the best of luck while serving your term. SAILING LESSONS DATES: JUNE 3-21 st You can find our announcement and registration form on our web site under Juniors. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Holly email: sthcrux@aol.com phone: 228.363.0073. Congratulations to Quentin Whitsitt, winner of our $100 gas card. Look for our next fundraiser in May, a spaghetti dinner.

CROQUET COMMISSIONER KAREN URBAN Croquet is coming to. We are having a championship playoff on March 10 th. Shelda Jones is currently in possession of the traveling club mallet. This is open to all members of. As usual the Stokes intergalactic rules will prevail. We expect members to showcase their new mallets, knees, hips and attitude.
