Windword Page 2 BOARD OF GOVERNOR S M EETING Windycrest Sailing Club Board of Governors Meeting Minutes 01 December 2008 (draft) The BOG convened at 6:42 pm in the Sand Springs Case Community Center on 01 December 2008. Governors present were Kenny Baggett, Tina Birch, Jo Ann Chandler, Terry Dannar, Allene & Rex Donley, Steve Elliott, Steven Gent, Tucky Patz, and Tom Proctor. Members present were Darline Hobock and Jack Stewart along with guests Mark Carlson & his son Jake. Welcome: Jo Ann welcomed prospective members Mark Carlson and his son Jake. Mark and his wife along with their son and daughter would like to join the Windycrest family. Mark grew up sailing and had the pleasure of sailing at Windycrest back in 70s. He bought Kenny Baggett's Catalina 25 and would like to place it on a mooring until a slip becomes available. Jo Ann mentioned the children's summer sailing camp and as his children do not currently know how to sail Mark said he would definitely look into it. The BOG voted unanimously to approve the Carlsons for membership. Secretary's Report: Tina asked if there were any corrections to the November minutes as published in the Windword. There being none, Terry moved that the minutes be approved as published in the Windword; Tom seconded; minutes were approved. Windword Editor: Rex and Allene have taken over the bulk mailing of the Windword after meeting with Warren Graham and deciding that it was time for another member to get involved. Jo Ann will contact an individual that has requested to become involved in some way with the workings of our club to see if they would like to get involved and take over the labeling and bulk mailing. Rex will add the BOG meetings to the running calendar in the publication and as well as any other dates that are know at this time. West Marine is given about a dozen Windwords and we will be certain to have extras printed for distribution at the Boat Show booth. Rex intends to place some pictures of the Holiday Party in this issue. Facilities Manager's Report: Jack reported that the old Kenner Ski Barge we received from the Boy Scouts has been picked up by its new owner. Winterizing of the club facilities has been completed. Wood has been ordered and Jack's project for the month will be the refurbishing of the trailer deck. The broken anchors on breakwater have been repaired and the weeds in the keel boat trailer lot have been beaten back and should not be a problem until next June. The redesign of the damaged dock is still under consideration, but it is anticipated to be fixed during this winter season. Treasurer's Report: Tom passed out the November Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Statement and Open Accounts Receivable reports. The biggest expense this month was the anchorage of the breakwater. Discussion concerning three memberships who's dues and fees are still outstanding revolved around termination of said memberships in adherence to the Bylaws. The BOG decided statements should be sent one more time emphasizing that accounts will be terminated and boats will be required to be removed if payment is not received. Windword Page 4 BOG Minutes continued from page 2 financials be approved as stated; Steve seconded; financials were approved. Activities Captain's Report: Tucky called the fleet captains asking they remind their fleets to register for the Holiday Party. As a result, there are currently 66 reservations at this moment. The Schusterman center had been booked for 6:30pm, February 21st, for the Awards Ceremony. Venue will be similar to last year, serving desserts and drinks. Fleet Captain's Report: Steven handed out a tentative schedule for racing with combined fleets for a 12 race series. The Junior fleet will be conjoined for summer series. April 4th is tentatively scheduled as a PRO Training Day. Between the spring, summer, fall and winter series, Steven is planning a Night Race Series. Jack suggests the night race be close to the full moon. Jo Ann suggests Steven or anyone else do a series of articles for Sunday not being just a race day but a gathering and comradery day - to get the cruisers, newbies and juniors out. Kenny remembers a couple of weekends that there were well over 22 boats on a Sunday and not all were racing; some were just out cruising. Steven would like to have more activities at the lake. You don't have to sail, just come out and have fun - watch the night races, enjoy the Sunday races, have a picnic on Saturday - just come out and have fun at the lake! Rear Commodore's Report: David sent report to Jo Ann stating that he has had no responses to his invitation for the training committee. Jo Ann asked if anyone on the Board would like to participate and Steven stepped right up. David will make a decision by the 15th of December if we are going to have a GUST program again next year. Vice Commodore's Report: Steve announced there is movement on the B slip. Steve will draft a rewrite of Articles 13 and 14 of the Bylaws for slips and moorings so that they are better explained and not contradictory to one another. Past Commodore's Report: Terry picked up one of the refurbished Windycrest trophies that were damaged in a fire last fall. Excellent work. The other trophy is also ready to be picked up in Sand Springs and both will be displayed and awarded at the ceremony in February. Commodore's Report: Jo Ann mentioned that an individual who was a member in the 70s would like to rejoin as an a associate member. 2009 billings will go out after Christmas. The next Board of Governors meeting will be held January 5th, 6:30pm, at the Sand Springs Case Community Center on Wekiwa Road. Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm. Come to Windycrest about noon on the 1st of January, take your boat out or join someone else and head out to a protected cove, either Eagle's Cove or Washington Irving Cove, depending on the weather and wind. The first boat out decides which cove and will go in and anchor. Other boats come in and raft up to the anchored boat. Bring an appetizer to share and your own drinks. We'll enjoy the day and walk between boats to share food and drink. Hopefully we may see some eagles before the raft up is over. What better way to start out the year than to begin it on the water with our friends at Windycrest! PS If it is to cold or to wet to go out, we'll start a fire in the fireplace, enjoy Danny and Jack's new window in the pavilion and have our raft up on land.

Club sponsored events practically vanish, leaving mostly the hale and hearty to utilize the Club. Our Facilities Manager has kept the Club in very good condition, and through the winter we will evaluate those particular points of concern that will require actual physical attention in order to keep the Club in the excellent condition we have come to almost take for granted. Also, as the calendar year expires, the notion of membership renewal draws near. Please remember that fees for membership renewal are due Feb 1st, which is a Sunday. More importantly, the fees are considered late after Feb 15th. Please help our volunteer club officers manage the task of dues collection with your cooperation by paying by the February 15th. Anyone on the various waiting lists must be aware that now I am the person that manages them. If a member has been on the Passed list, they need to contact me if they want to be restored to the Active list. During the downtime of the winter months, there seems to be a more or less general regrouping of many people s levels of prioritization. I suppose what I mean by that is: If anyone has a really different idea that would help WSC, Let Me Hear It! In the following few Winter days, I m looking forward to hearing from, and seeing as many members possible! Steve Elliott Vice Commodore. Wash a pumpkin and cut in it half crosswise. Remove seeds and strings. Place it in a pan, shell side up, and bake it in a 325 degree oven for approximately 1 hour, depending on size, until a fork easily penetrates the shell. Scrape the pulp from the shell. Beat 3 eggs on high speed for 5 minutes. Gradually beat in 1 cup sugar. Put egg mixture in blender with 2/3 cup cooked pumpkin and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Blend until it looks creamy with no strings. Sift 3/4 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. 3/4 teaspoon ginger, and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg together. Fold into pumpkin mixture. Spread in 15X11X2-inch pan, sprayed with Pam. Top with 1 cup chopped walnuts. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Turn out on a towel that has been sprinkled with powdered sugar. Roll cake and towel lengthwise loosely and let cool slightly. Combine 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, 4 teaspoons butter and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until smooth. Unroll warm cake and spread with cream cheese mixture. Re-roll cake and place in refrigerator. Several people requested Libbye Brooks recipe for the Pumpkin Roll that she brought to the Cajun Turkey Fry. Thanks to Libbye for sharing!

NEW WEBMASTER FOR Windycrest.com R E P O R T I am very excited to be a part of JoAnn's board and to have the opportunity to give back to Windycrest. I have come up with several potential changes that I would like to try out next year. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. For next racing season, I would like to combine the Keelboat and Centerboard fleets together. They will still be scored in their separate fleets but they will also be scored together. The +95 fleet will remain the same. We will have a longer racing series, from 8 to 12 races, with 3 throw-outs per series. Something I would like to have is a strong push for more Junior sailing participation. I would like to give them the chance to come out and race on Sundays and get more experience. I want to have a Jr. Fleet for anyone 18 or younger, who will sail a shorter race than the adults. This would be a good chance for the younger sailors to get some practice before the Great Plains Optimist Regatta. I am not sure if this has ever proposed before, but I want to have a Night Race series. It will be on a few Saturday nights during the summer hopefully close to full moons. This will work kind of like the long distance races. The race will start at 9 and end at 11 and whoever is in front at 11 is where we will finish. These are just a few ideas. Next year should be a lot of fun. Again, feel free to ask any questions or offer any comments or suggestions. You can call me at 260-5344 or email me at bittersweetsailr@yahoo.com.
