The Cir K ulator For Information Call: Smokehouse Dan (518) 885-3758 Annabelle (518) 877-7834 Kayaderosseras Fish and Game Club 706 Geyser Rd. Ballston Spa, New York 12020 Published by the Circle K Regulators for Cowboy Action Shooting in the Capital District Sept. 2016 DATES TO REMEMBER 10/12/16 Monthly Meeting, 7:30 PM 10/14/16 Setup for Monthly Matches, 9:00 AM 10/15/16 Rough Riders Match, 11:00 AM 10/16/16 Monthly CAS Match Remember the CKR final RR/CAS shoots of the season will be Nov. 5 th /6th this year! HELUVA RUKUS 2016 Well, Heluva Rukus 2016 is now in the history books. The Circle K Regulators 16 th annual SASS New York State Championship was once again a monumental success, thanks to the efforts of many dedicated club members who worked tirelessly to see to it that the shooters were given fun-filled, action-packed stages, awesome props, numerous vendors, beautiful trophies, and an overall memorable experience on Sept. 16-18, 2016. And a special thanks as well to all the shooters for their kind words regarding the match which made all that work worth it! Despite a constantly changing weather forecast for the 3-day event, it turned out to be a lovely fall weekend. Friday and Saturday boasted bright blue skies and comfortable temps. Thankfully, the heavy rain and thunderstorms predicted for Sunday turned out to be nothing more than a few minutes of light drizzle in the morning. Whee we definitely dodged a bullet there! Approximately 160 cowpokes participated in the numerous side matches and wandered along sutlers row on Friday. The side events this year included the usual speed shotgun/rifle/pistol/derringer/ pocket pistol events, an increase to THREE mini-stages (shot with either CAS or Rough Rider firearms), the long range event, and multiple.22 caliber events. The 11 vendors on site made it all too easy for cowpokes to part with their hard-earned cash. Our three main match sponsors, Klassic Laser Works, Cowboy Gunworks, and Sturm, Ruger & Co., were with us throughout the weekend. Other vendors included a leather maker, a target maker, photographers, bullet makers/distributors and vendors selling cowboy clothing and other accessories. A special thanks to Tazz and Rose of Klassic Laser Works for the great CKR / HR 2016 customized towels they donated for every shooter and vendor this year - nice mementos and useful as well! Rowdy Bill did a great job as usual with the main match stages LOTS of movement, lots of shooter s choices, and lots of leadslinging fun. You can never accuse him of writing boring, stand-and-deliver stages for sure. There were various movers, pistol knock-downs, rifle knock-ups, the beloved kick-down door, and targets of every size and shape. Target acquisitions were varied and, at times, challenging, keeping the shooters minds, as well as their body parts, working.

The props were fantastic once again, thanks to the talented CKR building and decorating crews. The new building fronts added to the Town Stage - Professor P.T. Litewell s photo shop and the Gem Saloon both looked super. (See pics above.) Stage 6 looked great with its trees, teepees, raft, and river. A big thanks to Gator Dunn for his special additions to the props on that stage (see pic below). The mission / Boot Hill stage and the cattle corral / wagons stage looked like real scenes from the Old West. There s nothing like having a Western movie set right on KF&G property! Yeehaa! A total of 246 shooters from 18 different states and Canada completed the match this year. There were competitors in 33 different categories, including 5 Gran Patrons (age 80+) and 1 Gran Patroness! Wow! In the end, we were pleased to crown El Muerto Negro and CKR s own as the Overall Top Male and Female AND the 2016 New York State Men s and Ladies Champions. Awesome shooting, you two! Thanks to all those who donated items for this year s special raffle and to all those who purchased tickets. With the proceeds from the ticket sales and some generous personal contributions, we were able to make sizeable donations not only to the local EMTs who were on-site all weekend, but to the SASS Scholarship Fund and to a scholarship fund for our own young shooter, Spaghetti Gunslinger, as well. Again, thank you to all the Circle K members who worked so hard all year and throughout this shoot to make it another great one. And an especially big thanks to all of the shooters from outside our club who volunteered to help us out with ROing duties, both on side event day and in the main match. We couldn t have done it without you! Thanks, too, to the Boy Scouts who picked brass all weekend and to the kitchen crew who provided the hungry cowpokes with 3- squares a day (including a shish-kebob buffet Fri. night and a BBQ chicken and ribs buffet Sat. night). Special thanks to Kimmy Hudson and Mark Munzert for providing us with entertainment Sat. evening. Thanks as well to Mo Lasses (our Match Director and SASS liaison), Kay T. Ryder (in charge of data entry), Cook County Kate (in charge of the Info Desk), Tequila Rob and Running Nanna (our scoresheet runners), L.T. Cool One (our go-to guy), the Costume Contest judges, and all the others who pitched in to help out with the multitude of jobs which an event of this size requires. Also, thanks to all the vendors whose presence adds so much to the event. To all who came to Rukus 2016, thanks for coming, and we look forward to having you all with us again in 2017. Keep an eye out for my article on Heluva Rukus in an upcoming issue of The Cowboy Chronicle. Meanwhile, I apologize for not currently having any photos of the new champs. I m awaiting a CD from the official photographer and will get those pics and many others from the shoot put up on the website ASAP. CKR WINNERS AT OTHER MAJOR SHOOTS The Tioga County Cowboys held their 7th annual multi-day match, The Showdown, in Owego, NY, on Aug. 26-28. There were 113 shooters, including several CKR members, in attendance. The weather was great, and the leadslinging opportunities abounded. There were several side events and 3 mini-stages to keep folks occupied on Fri., followed by 12 main match stages Sat. and Sun. The stages were fun, and the props were nice as usual. They even had a couple of vendors. A pig roast and a silent auction rounded out the weekend. Congrats to CKRers: Sixgun Schwaby 1 st Duelist (& 7 th overall) 1 st Ladies Wrangler (& 9th overall) Rowdy Bill 1 st Elder Statesman & clean (& 10th overall) Annabelle 1 st Ladies Senior Peddler Jack 2 nd Sr Duelist Big Sky Di 2 nd Ladies 49r Congrats as well to overall winners, James Samuel Pike and Spinning Sally. The Thurmont Rangers hosted the Mason-Dixon Stampede, the 2 nd SASS Eastern Divisional Championship, in Thurmont, MD on Sept. 29-Oct. 2. The theme this year was The Reel West, highlighting Western films, both old and new. Unfortunately, attendance was down, with only 148 shooters participating in the event, including 2 CKR members. The weather was generally wet and yukky, but could have been a lot worse if the weathermen had been anywhere close to accurate. There were several speed side events, 3 CAS warmup stages and a Wild Bunch mini-match on Thurs., followed by 10 main match stages Fri. and Sat. The stages were straight forward with minimal movement. There were a handful of vendors on site, who unfortunately got very little foot traffic due to the weather. A banquet was held

in the big tent, followed by games of chance in the clubhouse, on Sat. night. Sun. activities included team and man-on-man events, the awards ceremony, and the Top 16 / Sweet 16 Shootoff. Congrats to CKRers: Rowdy Bill 1 st Elder Statesman (& clean) Annabelle 2 nd Ladies Senior (& one of the Sweet 16 Ladies) action with magazine tube holding up to 13. Larger brass bead front sight. Leather cover for rear of stock. Case hardened receiver. 26- inch barrel goes from octagon to round. No nicks, dents, or scratches. $1400 or can make offer. Call Sky Ryder at (315) 868-1511. A great big congrats to the 2016 Eastern Divisional Champions, James Samuel Pike and Spinning Sally, and to male and female Overall Top Guns, James Samuel Pike and Kathouse Kelli. During the same time frame as the Mason-Dixon Stampede, the Badlands Bar 3 range (and the infamous Dooley Gang) hosted the annual Back At Cha match in English, Texas. There were a whopping 280 shooters in attendance, including 2 CKR members. It was an actionpacked event, but if you want more info on the shoot, you ll have to talk to one of the cowpokes listed below. Congrats to CKRers: 1 st Ladies Wrangler Sixgun Schwaby 4 th Duelist FOR SALE 1873 Uberrti 44-40 Rifle. Like new. Less than 100 rounds shot. Action job by Deathwish Kid (Jim Maynard.)
