SOLES4 SOULS AND THE GLASS SLIPPER AWARD Something that sets the Miss America Organization apart from other pageants is its devotion to service. As we crown a new Miss Carbon County October 13 th she will begin preparations for the Miss Utah pageant, she will have the goal of collecting 1,000 pairs of shoes to donate to people in need through the Soles4Souls campaign. This year s Glass Slipper Award will be given to the girl in each group that collects the most lightly used shoes to go to this cause. Each contestant is challenged to collect a minimum of 50 pairs of shoes and bring them pageant day at check in. Please have shoes rubber banded together and placed in large BLACK garbage bags, with contestants name and amount of shoes in each bag (duct tape or masking tape works well for this). PHASES OF COMPETITION INTRODUCTION Each category stage line up will start with the current Mini Miss, followed by Mini Miss Contestants, current Little Miss, then Little Miss Contestants, current Junior Miss, and Junior Miss Contestants. Athletic Wear and Formal Wear include a modeling pattern. If you are staring at the stage from the audience perspective each contestant will enter from the right side and exit the left side. Why do you want to be Mini/Little Miss Carbon County? On-Stage & Interview Question TIPS -When answering an on stage question at a child pageant, the most important thing is showing your personality. You can show personality by how loud you project while talking, the enthusiasm in your voice, and most importantly, through your answer. The most important thing is to elaborate! Don t give one word answers, as this doesn t give the judges enough to get to know you. Keep talking about the subject for a couple sentences, or tell why you picked the answer you did. - You might be asked some Tell me about questions. They will be asking you to tell them more about some of the answers you gave. For example: So, you have a pet dog. Can you tell me about him? -Practice, practice, and more practice. The more comfortable they are with the questions, the more likely they will have already answered the question they get. Make sure they speak loudly when practicing. When you practice, get your child talking more than one word answers without being prompted. Practice exactly how it will be on stage. Get them to stand properly, practice with a pretend microphone, etc. Practice in front of a group of family or friends, so they get used to an audience. -Tell them to say the first thing in their head. Children often want to keep thinking of the best answer. The answer doesn t have to be their absolute favorite, just say the first thing they think of that they like, or kids will spend a long time thinking. -Make sure they stand in pretty feet with no fidgeting! Practice how they re going to walk on stage and what they do after they re finished answering their question.
