The start for the Mean Green in its inaugural season in C-USA is the best start in program history in its first year in a new league (Southland, Big West and Sun Belt Conference). Property of a Freshman Lone freshman Amy Henard is ranked 27th in the nation in assists per set (11.05), and she is ranked SECOND among freshmen in the same stat nationally. She has played every set for NT. Taking Care of her Odd-Job NT hit Houston on Sept. 20 for the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup, a tourney that saw the Mean Green go 1-2 with a five-set loss to LSU as well as a sweeping victory over the host Cougars in their home opener. Despite the 1-2 record, freshman setter Amy Henard took care of business, and her performance earned her the team s first C-USA weekly award as she grabbed setter of the week honors for her 110-assist weekend (.362 set percentage). The Girl With The Golden Arm Senior captain Courtney Windham has proven as accurate as the golden gun in recent outings. Against Houston, she posted a.812 attack percentage, the highest single match attack percentage in C-USA this year. The.812 mark was good for the third-highest all time in NT single-match history. She also hit a.750 attack percentage vs. NW State, fifth all-time in the single-match NT records. She added a 12 assisted-block performance vs. TX State, tying the top all-time performance in NT history and cracking the top- 10 list in C-USA history. The Libero Who Dug Me With her 47 digs in Houston, senior libero and captain Shelby Tamura moved up three spots in the NT career digs list to 7th. You Only Live Thrice North Texas competed in its first five setter of the season against Idaho, its 12th match of the season. The Mean Green fell 16-14 in the final set, but the match saw redshirt sophomore Analisse Shannon notch a career-high 16 digs. It also saw two NT players put up career-high killing numbers... License to Kill Some kill records were set in the Gem state as junior Hanna Forst (20) and senior Karissa Flack (15) bot set career highs against Idaho in the final game of the Boise tournament. Sophomore Carnae Dillard led the Mean Green offensively in that one with 28 kills, three short of her career high. For Mean Green Eyes Only Following a win over regional rival UT Arlington, 3-1, North Texas has now won its last four home openers in a row. Quantum of Los Angeles The Mean Green faced a tough series of matches to open the season including 12th-ranked UCLA. On top of the level of the opponent, NT was implementing a new system under firstyear head coach Andrew Palileo. Despite this, NT came within two points of stealing the first set against UCLA and swept Albany in the third match of the tournament to grab its first win of the season. On Palileo s Secret Service North Texas hired its ninth head coach in the spring of 2013 grabbing Andrew Palileo from Ohio State. Prior to his time as an assistant coach for the Buckeyes, Palileo was the head coach of the Washington State Cougars, where he earned a PAC-12 Coach of the Year distinction following an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009. Coming in with a career record of 273-193, Palileo is poised to take a roster that lost one senior to a new level in Conference USA. Duo Royale The duo of sophomore Carnae Dillard and senior Courtney Windham became the first pair of first team all-conference selections in NT history in 2012 after being named All-Sun Belt. Dillard took it a step further as she grabbed the program s second SBC Freshman of the Year award. Floor-Raker New Mexico State transfer Shelby Tamura found a niche quickly on the 2012 NT crew as the libero and did not disappoint. She had a Sun Belt-leading 642 digs on the season, which was good for fifth all-time in the Sun Belt records and second in NT history. Playin Some Thunderball With its first trip to the Sun Belt Tournament finals and season finale victory over SMU, North Texas was able to tie the record for most wins in program history with 26 victories in 2012. The first time NT reached this mark was the 1977 campaign, the second year in the program s history. Tomorrow Never Dies The 26-12 Mean Green volleyball unit will remain almost entirely in tact due to the loss of only one senior, setter May Allen. Fortunately, NT was able to secure the services of one of the top setters in the nation, Amy Henard out of local Brock High School. She will fill the void left by Allen, which will help NT keep its chemistry on the court.
