P a g e 2 August 4, 2012 F5B Report Dan Fiedler, CD Well the hottest day of the year so far, and what do those F5B guy do? Yup, go flying The contest was great and everyone had a good time We did have three pop ups for shade thanks to Kevin Martin and Keith Ragsdale We had 7 pilots come out to fly and one plane did not leave the ground (Roger Breedlove) and at the end of round one when I went to fly, I had a dead servo so I was also out of the raise and did not leave the ground So now we are down to 5 pilots Then Jim Gibson put on a blistering first round and showed us how to do a 1,000 point round but broke his tail feathers on landing so he was out.now we or down to just 4 pilots left Then on the second round Terry broke his plane on landing, but he did finish the second round so that still left him in the money for scoring Thanks once again guys for a great day of flying The Totals 1 st place Keith Ragsdale.1,992 points (Congratulations Keith) 2 nd place Don Wilson 1,987 points 3 rd place Terry Erickson.1,804 points 4 th place Kevin Martin. 1,665 points 6 th place Jim Gibson..1,000 points (Flew one round) 7 th place Dan Fiedler.0 points (Did not fly)

P a g e 3 August 4, 2012 F5B Contest Pictures The contest got off to a hot start with considerable technical discussion about placement of the landing line... it was finally stretched out! You can see the tension and excitement building at the pilot s meeting. Winner Keith Ragsdale getting a nice launch from Jim Gibson. Kevin Martin throwing one up!

P a g e 6 F5B Contest Reports for June and July June 16, 2012 F5B Report Dan Fiedler, CD July 7 2012 F5B Report Dan Fiedler, CD We all had a great time a good turn out and great weather for are 3rd F5B contest of the year Everyone got a little extra practice time in before the contest because the CD left the wire cable at home that connects the A & B end and had to go back home and get it before we could start the contest, so we didn't get started until 11:00 but after a late start it all went well We did have two pilots that had some problems and did not finish the contest I am now working on a new 10 cell go really fast F5B plane, so we will see how fast it is and how long it will last??? (May be more than I can handle) Thanks you all for coming and having some fun with us and I look forward to seeing all of you at the next F5B contest Saturday July 7, 2012 AM 1st...Dan Fiedler...2,000 2nd..Jim Gibson...1,903 3rd...Don Wilson...1,890 4th...Keith Ragsdale...1,843 5th...Kevin Martin...1,570 points Speed 480 6th...Tom Fowler...904 points 7 cell (Did not Finish) 7th...Richard Van Dijk...784 points Speed 400 (Did not Finish) Man the F5B contest just keep getting better with another great turn out and the best weather of the season so far It seems the planes just keep getting faster and everyone is getting the winter kinks out now and doing some great flying I am very excited and looking forward the next contest The little Palm that I bought through Pesz died on the first round and we had to time the contest with stop watches. It take three timers and one person counting laps to do the F5B event without the Palm. I bought one on Ebay and should have it for the next contest...just hope it works?? I can't find one like I had, it is too old and I don't know if the F5B program I got from Pesz will work in a newer one I had a servo quit on my plane and just flew the first round, but it will be up and running by next month Thank you all for coming out and I hope you had lots of fun 1st Place...Jim Gibson...2,000 2nd place..tom Fowler...1,964 3rd place...keith Ragsdale...1,875 4th place...don Wilson...1,860 5th place...terry Erickson...1,712 points speed 400 6th place...kevin Martin...1,656 points speed 480 7th place...dan Fiedler...1,000

P a g e 7 July 15, 2012 Aero-tow Jim Gibson, CD July 15, 2012 Aero-tow After 11 plus days of great NW weather, the day today started out overcast and cool at Hollin Airport. The weather improved throughout the day, but a pesky west wind certainly made for interesting takeoffs and landings. We had a record turnout of 14 registered pilots and many more sailplanes as several pilots brought more than one glider to fly. There was a great variety of sailplanes from woodies to fiberglass with wingspans from 2-6 meter all flying today. David Portwood showed up with his Swift and enjoyed racing the tug to the ground doing loops, rolls and inverted flight on the way. It may be just a coincidence, but the advance advertising of the potluck(i.e., free food) may have contributed to the large turnout and could have enticed a few club members who we saw for the first time this year at an aero-tow event. Betty and her daughter did a great job organizing the potluck and there was plenty of great food for all as well plus some great conversation with Betty s family and friends. Betty s family potluck definitely increased the number of spectators we had who seemed to enjoy watching us fly + take photos almost all day long. I want to thank everyone who turned out as we definitely had an impressive display of sailplanes today. We had four fliers from Washington travel down for the day..bob Nietzke, Paul Dufek, Mark Anderson & Tom Martin. Mark & Tom brought their 6 meter K8 s. As an added bonus, Sherrell Steinhauer not only flew aero-tow for the first time, but maidened his K8 as well. One can not fully appreciate the size of the K8 unless seen in person. The approximate 35 lb flying weight was just about all Bob Beardsley could handle with his Cub. I believe Sherrell was going to stop and get a back brace on his way home. The K8 is a great flier and it ll be great to see Sherrell fly it at future aero-tows. Also, Bob did a great job towing today as the 10+ mph cross wind out of the west certainly presented a challenge. Bob is masterful at making those cross wind landings look so easy!! Mark your calendars for the next scheduled aerotow..sunday, August 19 th. Jim Gibson Tug Pilots It was Mark/Tom from Olympia. I think they both may fly own it/not sure. It s a 33% Hangar 9 Pawnee with a 3W twin cylinder 106cc motor in it. The radio was most interesting as they were using the Futuba SBus system which utilizes a 2 wire communication & power bus to all the servos-----definitely the leading edge of RC systems.
