Willamette Turf Flying Field news for 2013 Terry s latest conversations with Steve at Willamette Turf are as follows: Steve did not plant any suitable turf this fall for our use so we will have to locate another flying field for 2013. Steve has rotated into other crops for the coming year. Terry said Steve is open to our club returning when and if he has a suitable turf site... Perhaps in 2014. Tom C. and Terry have been looking for an Aero-Tow site as well. The Hollin Field may be available and Tom is working on it. He has located a couple other potential sites that may be suitable for joint use for all club activities... Well, excluding slope! There will be an update at the club meeting. Use Willamette Turf Flying Field on Waconda St. Effective Sept. 3rd, We are using the rye grass field on the south side of Waconda St. There is a gravel road into the field. Park on the side of the road during the rainy season, don t drive on field. Please give Terry a call if you have any questions... 503 982-0792 We can continue to use this field until about March 1st when the grass will be too tall anyway. Terry will let us know. P a g e 5 February 3 Floater Kevin Martin, CD I was hoping for a mild sunny day like Saturday in Beaverton. However, it was not to be. It was damp and gray on Sunday in Brooks very cloudy and temps in the mid-40s. However the winds were very light so it was quite tolerable. We flew four rounds consisting of a 5 ID and three 7 IDs. There were no thermals to speak of but the cool damp air made for good float times. Many 7-minute rounds were completed. Landings consisted of a 25-foot square 10 points if the plane was entirely inside the square, 5 points if any part of the plane was over any part of the square, and of course 0 if you missed it all together. I decided after the contest that I made the square too big the majority of landings for the day were 10s. by Kevin Martin, CD Place Name Score 1 Dave Portwood 1595 2 Dave Johnson 1592 3 Tom Culmsee 1583 4 Sherrell Steinhauer 1573 5 Mike Skeen 1572 6 Jim Gibson 1571 7 Terry Erickson 1556 8 Tom Brightbill 1536 9 Keith Ragsdale 1499 10 Kevin Martin 1499 11 Robin Robinson 1466 12 Jason Hood 1362 13 Steve Ehrlich 1352 14 Frank Bell 1351 15 Kyle Kroker 1290

P a g e 6 Tom Fowler is sporting a new TD ship This is my new TD toy. It is 3.5 meter (136.5 wing span +/-) ship that has a full flying stab. It is a typical setup for a 6 servo TD plane except that I have not really set up a TD plane in my Airtronics SD-10G - 2.4 radio. If I can get everything programmed, it is suppose to be a great flyer. I went Whole hog as they say by getting the metal case MKS servos. They are very smooth and quite strong, so you do get a little more for a lot more money. In putting this big bird together, there were a few surprises. There was no threaded insert for the rudder post that takes a ball link connector. So I used 5 min. epoxy. The top drive flaps and ailerons are pretty tightly coupled, like most of these newer TD ships, but the back of the wing is not cut out for the linkage clearance nor is the sub spar drilled for the linkage to pass through. I guess all this helps keep the cost down, but I would have thought that a $1,600 glider would have this work completed in the factory. There were no instructions or surface movement setting recommendations with this NIB plane. Tom C. recommended a thread on RC Groups that had quite a lot of posts on this plane that came out in 2008. I found some of the information for CG setting and launch settings in the thread, so it should be ready to fly soon. Still need to balance and finish transmitter programming. Tom Fowler

By Jim Gibson Note: CD David Portwood reported to the NL ed. that it is a sheer coinky-dinky, a full moon and his lucky rabbit foot that he has managed to win every race this year.
