The Air Force track and field team returns to ac on this Saturday (April 23), when it travels to Waco, Texas, for the annual Michael Johnson Invita onal, hosted by Baylor University. MEET INFORMATION The Michael Johnson Invita onal, which is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. (CT) on Saturday, April 23, will be held at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium on the campus of Baylor University (the hammer throw will take place behind the west grandstand). General admission ckets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth (2-17). A complete order of events is listed below. With the excep on of the 5000-meter run, the women will compete first in all running events. CORONA TAKES DOWN ANOTHER RECORD, REPEATS AS MW ATHLETE OF THE WEEK A er clocking the fastest 5000-meter me in all of NCAA Division I (13:37.24), Patrick Corona was named the MW Track Athlete of the Week on April 19. Finishing second in the Elite sec on of the Mt. SAC Relays, Corona improved his personal-best me by more than 14 seconds and reset the Academy record that had stood since 2010. In addi on to knocking more than 10 seconds off of the program s Senior Class Record, Corona clocked the fastest me in the Mountain West in more than two years. LONG, SMITH SHUFFLE ALL-TIME 5K STANDINGS In two 5000-meter races at the Mt. SAC Relays, the women s top-10 list received a pair of updates. Lindy Long improved her No. 9 standing on the all- me list a er clocking a career-best 17:17.22 in the Elite sec on, but Jaci Smith reshuffled the standings two hours later, as she debuted in eighth following a career-best 17:08.82 performance in the Open sec on. The pair, ranked eighth and 10th on the all- me list following the two races on April 15, bookend a me that was set in 1991. In addi on to breaking into the top 10, Smith also deleted nearly 11 seconds from a Freshman Class Record that had stood since 2007. CHACON HAS STELLAR HEPTATHLON DEBUT With a 4529-point ou ng at the California Invita onal, Alexa Chacon debuted in fi h on the Academy s all- me heptathlon standings. In her first heptathlon, Chacon finished 14th in the overall field of 48 and clocked a new event record at 800 meters. With a career-best 2:20.50, Chacon cut more than two seconds from an event standard that had stood for nine years. BERSTLER FINISHES THIRD IN DECATHLON, DEBUTS IN 10TH ON ACADEMY S ALL-TIME LIST Calvin Berstler debuted in 10th on the Academy s all- me decathlon standings a er tallying 6617 points to finish third at the California Invita onal. The sophomore recorded career-best marks in eight of the 10 events, en route to the career-best total. DID YOU KNOW? Calvin Berstler s third-place finish in the decathlon at the California Invita onal Combined Events Meet is the Falcons best placement at that meet since Noah Palicia won the 2011 compe on. In addi on, with Tyler Berson earning a 10th-place finish (6006 points), it s the first me since that year that Air Force has earned two top-10 finishes in the decathlon. @AF_TRACKFIELD WHAT S ON DECK The Falcons travel to Des Moines, Iowa, for the annual Drake Relays on April 28-30.

COLORADO WEATHER CAUSES ANOTHER CANCELLATION The majority of the Falcons squad received an unexpected weekend off, as weather forced Colorado State to cancel its annual Jack Chris ansen Invita onal. It is the second Colorado-based meet of the season to be cancelled due to weather. CORONA NABS THIRD CONFERENCE AWARD OF THE YEAR A er a winning performance in the mile at the Sun Angel Classic, Patrick Corona was named the Mountain West Men s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on April 12. With one MW award as a sophomore and three during each of the last two seasons, Corona set a new Academy standard for conference awards in a career, with seven weekly awards. CORONA NOTCHES ANOTHER RECORD Patrick Corona debuted an Academy record at the Sun Angel Classic on April 9, as he set the ini al standard in the outdoor mile at 4:00.51. Finishing first out of 18 collegiate and professional runners in the Premiere sec on of that race by a margin of nearly two seconds, Corona paced Air Force to the top-two finishes (Ma Dorsey, 4:02.00). In addi on to being a new Academy record, Corona clocked the fastest mile me in the NCAA last week and the second-fastest in the na on for the 2016 season. NOT DONE YET... Using the mile-to-1500 conversion, Patrick Corona s mile me at the Sun Angel Classic translates into a 1500-meter me of 3:42.69 the third-fastest me in Academy history. In addi on, with that conversion, Ma Dorsey moved from ninth to fourth on the program s all- me standings in that event with a converted me of 3:44.07. JOHNSON BREAKS ACADEMY RECORD AT 100 METERS With a career-best me of 10.43, Zach Johnson broke the Academy s 10-year-old record in the 100-meter dash at the Sun Angel Classic. Johnson, who finished fi h amongst collegiate runners in the Premiere race, deleted 0.03 seconds off of the previous record that had stood since 2006. He also knocked 0.11 seconds off of the Junior Class Record that he ini ally set last week. GILLESPIE, ALSTON IMPACT WOMEN S RECORD BOOK AT SUN ANGEL CLASSIC Carina Gillespie and Naomi Alston combined to impact three all- me lists during the Sun Angel Classic on April 9. Gillespie recorded the second-fastest 1500-meter me in program history, as she clocked a me of 4:22.81 during the Premiere sec- on of that race. Finishing second amongst collegiate runners and sixth overall, Gillespie also broke the program s 10-year-old Sophomore Class Record by four seconds. Alston made her mark to a pair of top-10 lists during the meet, as she posted the program s seventh-fastest 200-meter me (25.37) and eighth-fastest 400-meter me (56.68). IT S HAMMER TIME With a hammer throw heave of 197 5, Spencer Baldwin registered the fourth-best distance in Academy history at the Sun Angel Classic on April 8. Improving his career distance in that event by nearly 10 feet, the senior won the 16-compe tor event and became the first Falcon since 2013 to impact the top five of the program s hammer throw standings. A PREMIERE OUTING Dylan Bell matched his career-high height of 17 6½ the eighth-best clearance in Academy history to finish first amongst collegiate vaulters - and third overall) - in the Premiere sec on of the pole vault at the Sun Angel Classic. FRESHMEN MAKE RECORD BOOK DEBUT Shanna Burns and Michelle Thompson improved the all- me standings at the Colorado Invita onal on April 9. In the first steeplechase of her career, Burns debuted in eighth on the Academy s top-10 list with an al tude-adjusted me of 12:11.82. Thompson, compe ng in just her second 400-meter hurdles, posted a me of 1:03.98 to enter the all- me standings in 10th. WOMEN EARN HIGHEST NATIONAL RANKING IN FOUR YEARS Backed by strong 10,000-meter performances from Hannah Everson and Lindy Long at the Stanford Invita onal, the Air Force women checked in at No. 74 on the April 4 edi on of the USTFCCCA Na onal Rankings. That is the program s highest regularseason ranking since 2012 (No. 72) and the third-highest ranking in program history (No. 61 in 2010). CADET COMPLEX RECOGNIZED The Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex was recognized by DailyRelay.com as the Most Picturesque in the state of Colorado. The segment ran during the website s American Track and Field Stadium series visit to the Centennial State. EVERSON, SMITH NAB WEEKLY MOUNTAIN WEST AWARDS A er impac ng the conference s all- me standings in their respec ve events, Hannah Everson (women s track) and Taylor Smith (men s field) were named Mountain West Athletes of the Week on April 5. The awards, the first for Everson and third for Smith, marked the fourth me this season that Air Force has nabbed mul ple weekly awards from the conference. WHAT. A. NIGHT. Clocking a career-best 10,000-meter me of 33:05.26 at the Stanford Invita onal on April 1, Hannah Everson sha ered her own Academy record by 78 seconds. Finishing third amongst collegiate runners and 11th overall in the top sec on of 10K races, Everson debuted in third on the Mountain West s all- me standings becoming just the fourth Academy female to impact the conference s top five list in an outdoor event. Everson, who has now reset the Academy s 10K record three mes in four career races at that distance, also took more than 90 seconds off of the Senior Class Record that had stood since 1991. BUT WAIT, THERE S MORE Hannah Everson wasn t the only runner to impact the top of the women s 10K standings at Stanford, as Lindy Long crushed her previous best me by more than two minutes to move into second on the program s all- me list. Crossing the finish line in a me of 34:12.05, Long jumped from fi h to second in the Academy standings and broke the Junior Class Record by 11 seconds.

Hannah Everson first be ered Callie Calhoun s 1991 me of 34:39.83 at the 2015 Stanford Invita onal (April 4) when she ran a 34:31.48. She improved that me to 34:23.52 at the NCAA West Preliminary, before clocking the latest record of 33:05.26 at this year s Stanford Invita onal (April 2). That same night, Lindy Long clocked a me of 34:12.05 to jump Calhoun for second on the Academy s all- me list. WHAT DID YOU DO IN AN HOUR? Jamiel Trimble impacted a pair of Academy top-10 lists in just over one hour at the Stanford Invita onal. Finishing third in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a career-best me of 14.10, Trimble moved into fi h on the program s all- me standings and reset the Sophomore Class Record that had stood since 2002. That race came just 73 minutes a er he posted the seventhfastest 200-meter me in Academy (21.31) to finish as the top collegiate and second overall in the full 35-runner event. SMITH IMPACTS ACADEMY, CONFERENCE STANDINGS A er registering a career-best clearance of 7 1, Taylor Smith was the top collegiate finisher - and placed fourth overall - in the Invita onal sec on of the high jump at the Stanford Invita onal on April 1. In addi on to pos ng the second-best clearance in Academy history, the junior also debuted in fi h on the Mountain West s all- me outdoor standings. MAKING THEIR MARK Clocking a 100-meter me of 10.54, Zach Johnson moved into fourth on the Academy s all- me standings and reset the program s 10-year-old Junior Class Record in that event, while John Reynolds posted the sixth-best triple jump distance in Academy history following a mark of 49 5¾. In his first outdoor race of the year, Jacob Bilvado set a new Freshman Class Record in the 5000-meter run, dele ng more than seven seconds off of the previous standard following a me of 14:15.24. GOING UP Kathryn Tomczak became just the third vaulter in Academy history to break the 13-foot barrier in an outdoor compe on, as she cleared 13 0¼ to win the collegiate sec on of the Stanford Invita onal and move into third on the Academy s all- me list. WINNER, WINNER The Falcons accounted for three addi onal first-place finishes at Stanford. Dylan Bell won the Invita onal sec on of the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 17 5, while John Reynolds improved his long jump distance by more than two feet (23 0½ ) to win the Collegiate event. Ma Dorsey won his sec on of the 1500-meter run with a season-debut of 3:46.46. MAKING AN IMPACT In his first race of the season, Andrew Milliron deleted more than 30 seconds from his previous best me in the 3000-meter steeplechase, as he clocked a me of 9:08.52 to finish 10th out of 65 runners at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. ALUMNI ALERT! Former Academy standout Joey Uhle recorded a career-best clearance of 18 4½ to win the Texas Relays pole vault and qualify to the Olympic Trials. He is the second alumni of the Academy pole vault team to record an Olympic-qualifying mark in that event, as Cale Simmons posted a clearance of 18 6½ to win the Air Force Invita onal this past January. MEN RANKED 22ND IN DUAL MEET RANKINGS The men entered the outdoor season ranked 22nd in the Track and Field News Collegiate Dual Meet Rankings. JOHNSON NAMED MW ATHLETE OF THE WEEK A er pos ng the Academy s fourth-fastest 200-meter me (21.08) and running a leg of the program s sixth-fastest 4x100-meter relay (40.71) at the Aztec Invita onal, Zach Johnson was named the Mountain West Athlete of the Week on March 29. It is the first conference award for Johnson, whose me in the 200-meter dash led the conference a er the first week of the season. ALUMNI ALERT! Former Academy standout Paige Blackburn (Class of 2012), a current member of the Air Force World Class Athlete Program, be ered the Olympic qualifying standard in the discus throw on Friday, March 25, during a winning performance at the Power Conference Cardinal and Golf Challenge at USC. Blackburn registered a throw of 200 8 to win the event by more than 10 feet and be er the Olympic qualifying mark by more than six inches. OFF TO A FAST START The 4x100-meter relay team of Miguel Molas, Zach Johnson, Robbie Anderson and Jamiel Trimble clocked the sixth-fastest me in program history (40.71) to win the invita onal heat of that race during the Aztec Invita onal on March 26. Johnson also posted the Academy s fourth-fastest 200-meter me (21.08), as he and Anderson collected two of the top-four mes in that event. The pair joined Trimble for three of the six fastest finishes in the 100-meter dash, while Trimble was the top collegiate finisher (second overall) in the 110-meter hurdles. GOING UP Kathryn Tomczak became the first member of the women s team to impact the Academy s all- me standings this season, as she cleared 12 2¾ to debut in eighth on the Academy s all- me pole vault standings at the Aztec Invita onal. RECAPPING THE INDOOR SEASON IN LESS THAN 250 WORDS The Falcons combined for eight Academy records, one Mountain West team tle, five individual conference tles, the first top-20 ranking in program history and an Academy-best four NCAA All-America accolades during the indoor season. Highlighted by at least one scoring finish in every event and MW tles from Dylan Bell (pole vault), Patrick Corona (3000-meter run), Taylor Smith (high jump) and Jamiel Trimble (60-meter hurdles), the men captured the program s second MW Indoor tle. Hannah Everson highlighted the women s meet with a conference tle in the 3000-meter run. Bell and Smith both set Academy records in their respec ve events during the indoor season, while Corona (mile, 3000-meter run) and Everson (3000-meter run, 5000-meter run) each recorded a pair of program-best marks. Trimble registered an Academy record in the 200-meter dash, while Shelley Spires equaled the program s high jump record. Ralph Lindeman was named the Mountain West and USTFCCCA Mountain Region Head Coach of the Year, while Everson was honored as the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Female Track Athlete of the Year. Smith finished second in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships to garner the first All-America cita on by a high jumper in program history, while Everson, who placed seventh in the 5000-meter run, became the first female in Air Force s Division I history to earn All-America honors at an indoor championship meet.
