DALLAS BASEBALL ALLIANCE/TEXAS VS. THE WORLD 10/30/12 Dallas & DeSoto, TX- Beautiful weather overcame the threat of rain and the clouds opened up to shine light on Dallas and DeSoto for some of the best 13U and High School baseball in the nation as part of the 2012 Chick-Fil-A Texas vs. The World International Championships held October 26-28. Fans would get an opportunity to see Puerto Rico (2 teams, 40 players strong) Ohio and Oklahoma tangle with teams from all across Texas including Houston, San Antonio, East Texas and the Metroplex. Why, there was even a sighting of legendary coach Sam Carpenter of the Dallas Mustangs. Once the dust settled 39 games later, fans would be treated to great championship games won at the 13U level by champion Deion Sanders Truth baseball and San Antonio s Texas Tigers who survived the field to capture the High School crown. 1409 S. Truth Baseball-13U Champions-Texas vs The World, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings Tim Mayer The Truth took on the Park Bums in the championship game after both teams arrived at the championship with impressive 4-0 marks. The Truth took the early lead and hung on for the win by a score of 9-6. In the High School division, San Antonio s Texas Tigers, in their inaugural season and led by head coach Phil Larsen, took on Mesquite s Texas Dirtbags as both teams brought in gaudy 4-0 records to the final game. The game was a seesaw battle that would see momentum swing to both sides during the contest. In the end, the Tigers would post a 5-3 victory over the game Dirtbags team in a fitting championship game filled with thrilling moments throughout. As for the action off the field, both the City of Dallas and the City of DeSoto did admirable jobs in providing facilities to accommodate the teams, which hailed from as far away as Puerto Rico and Ohio. Oklahoma was also represented, with Texas based teams rounding out the field including Houston based RBI and BPT Hurricanes. Legendary coach Sam Carpenter of the Dallas Mustangs provided great competition along with the studly Arlington A s ballclub. Dallas ISD players dominated the Dallas Indians high school team which accounted well for itself as did the 13U San Antonio Mustangs, who survived the field to make it to the final four. But there was far more than baseball games going on at Texas vs the World. To wit: 2
World Series Champion Scott Williamson, pitching coach for the Ohio Tribe, addressed players and coaches at the Mark Cuban Center. Scott spoke of his career and offered advice on players who wish to continue their baseball careers beyond high school. Head Coach Dan Heefner hosted teams at nationally renowned Dallas Baptist University Buffalo Wild Wings sponsored the B-Dub base run (fastest player around the bases), won by the Houston based Hurricanes. The Texas Rangers toured teams at the BallPark in Arlington Delicious meals abounded, as served by both Chick-Fil-A and Buffalo Wild Wings. And the Mark Cuban Center in Oak Cliff served as the player/coach meeting place on Saturday night with complimentary food served by Buffalo Wild Wings and deftly hosted by the Mark Cuban Center s Trina Terrell. The Dallas Police Athletic League, led by Sheldon Smith, served as the official transport arm of Texas vs The World as it transported the Puerto Rican team to/from Dallas Baptist, D/FW Airport, the Ball Park in Arlington and various other venues, proving that Texas is a great host state. The Texas Tigers home run slugger Kent Corso dropped 8 bombs on his way to the Bombski Home Run Derby High School division championship. East Texas Rough Rider Connor Gage bested the 13u field to claim the Bombski Home Run Derby Championship Kern Inc. CE0 and former University of Michigan baseball star, Dr Thomas Brock of the Ohio Tribe, addressed players on keeping education first and athletics in its proper perspective. Fox Sports Hometown Kids got lots of good footage for its show which will air in the next two weeks. Host Emily Reppert interviewed lots of players, coaches and parents. Can t wait for this one. The show airs in Dallas and Houston at 10am every Saturday. Footage will eventually be uploaded to YouTube by December according the show s producer, Chip Ritchie.
