General Managers Message High Meadows Hummer Roaring Gap, NC December 2013 As we move toward the Holiday Season I would be remiss not to thank all of our staff who have made this year so special. I am proud to work alongside all of our team! I ask you to join me in thanking all of our seasonal staff for a job well done this summer when you see them around the area! I also want to thank all of our department heads, the office team, golf shop and course maintenance team, the roads gang and our entire food and beverage team; we are all proud to serve you and your families! Most importantly I want to thank all of you, our members, for your generosity, kindness and support this year! From our team to your family we wish you a warm and wonderful Holiday Season! The celebration for our 50 th anniversary year has begun with events planned throughout 2014; see the 2014 calendar coming soon. Our membership drive for 50 new members has already begun with 6 new members joining us to date. A positive attitude is contagious and we all know it is you, our members, that make us special and we want more folks like you to continue the growth of HMG&CC! So please join in the yearlong Celebration and sponsor a new member what a great Holiday gift--fellowship and new friends! More importantly it will give us someone new to tell our old stories to. 2013 is not over yet and we have some partying to do! Join us to kick off the Holiday Season with our club's Holly Jolly Cocktail Party Saturday, December 7 th ; our employee appreciation party Sunday, December 8 th and finish off 2013 with our Past to the Future special New Year s Eve Bash Tuesday, December 31 st. Your Social Committee, House (See Message continued on page 2) 50th Anniversary! ***Reminders*** If you would like to order one of the Flags with the new 50th Anniversary Logo, PLEASE call the Golf Shop (363-2445) and put your name on the list as soon as possible! Don t forget, if your join date is prior to 1982, please let us know before November 18th. Thank you! A Word From The President Are you wondering the same thing I am...where did 2013 go? There seems to be a lot of truth to the old cliché, "The older we get, the faster time goes by!" With that said, Karen and I want to wish you and yours a Happy and Safe Holiday season. There are a few projects I need to update you on: The Dam Project is completed and came in under our original budget projections. Special thanks to Pete Ramey for his work on this committee. Thanks Pete! The Highway 21 widening project is still under way. We have had several discussions with the State and are still waiting on their financial proposal for the 3 areas where we will be effected, the front entrance, the maintenance shed, and the area to the right of Hole #14. We are in the final stages of negotiating new insurance policies for 2014. Our goal was to reduce as much as possible the 73% increase in premiums we were facing. The 2014 Calendar is completed. The biggest event of the 50th Anniversary Year will be the Gala on June 7th in connection with our Spring Member-Member. Speaking of events, let's all plan to increase our participation in Club events next year! Let s make our 50th Anniversary Year the BEST year this club has ever seen! If you live on the mountain or a nearby area, don t wait for the big events. Instead of sitting at home, get a group together and come over to the club, sit by the fire and enjoy the company of good friends! 2013 was an unusual year for High Meadows. Our summer season was dominated by the record rainfall, but our Greens Superintendent and his Staff did an outstanding job and we had the best course conditions we've ever seen at High Meadows. We had major turnover with key Staff positions in the middle of our season...and look at us now! We have experienced personnel in all positions moving our Club forward. I've been a member for 30 years and I've never felt better about the direction we are moving. Our Club is growing closer together and we are growing our membership with a solid marketing plan. The Board of Directors is looking forward to 2014 and with your help and enthusiasm it will be a great year! Again, Happy Holidays Pete Morrow, HMCC President

Credit Book Reminder Credit Books will automatically EXPIRE on December 31st! Not sure if you have any? Call or stop by the Golf Shop to find out! A Note From The Pro Dear Members, As the golfing season for the year has turned from Just A Wedge From Heaven to cold and blustery days. The Golf Shop would like to thank everyone for their support this past season! We have had some fun and great events to reflect upon. The success of 2013 would not have been possible without you! Bring on 2014! Again, thank you and we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and safe Holiday Season! Todd and Tim P.S. Don t forget the Golf Shop staff can assist Santa with that special gift! Coupon Books 336-363-2445 The 2014 Family and Guest Coupon Booklets will go on sale January 1, 2014. These booklets will be available for purchase through March 31, 2014 and will expire 1-year from the date of purchase. All Coupon Booklets will be handled through the Golf Shop. Please contact Todd or Tim for additional information! Message Message (Continued from page 1) Committee, Employee Appreciation Committee and your food and beverage team have worked hard to make this Holiday bright so come have some fun at your club! For more details check out upcoming e-mail blasts, bulletin boards around the club and our web site. Wishing all of you a warm and safe Holiday Season! See you around the tree, Mark Around the Meadow Dear Members, Winter has arrived; temperatures have been dropping as we near the end of the year. We took soil samples and temperature readings during the middle of November. What I found is temperatures at a 2 inch depth read at an average of 50 degrees and at a 4 inch depth readings average out to 49 degrees. Now what does that mean? We are entering the final stage of dormancy. Most plants are shut down for the winter. Our focus is now working with trees and other projects we have planned. We are clearing some trees in between 17 tee and 16 green to increase air flow, along with clearing out around the creek on 14 and 15. After we finish that project we will turn our focus to trimming the limbs around the cart paths. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.
