Monday, June 26, 2017 7:40 p.m. CT Security Service Field Colorado Springs, Col. Game #74 Road Game #36 Omaha Storm Chasers (36-36) LHP Eric Skoglund (2-3, 4.47) SERIES AT A GLANCE Omaha hits the road for a 5-game series at Colorado Springs between 6/26-29. The series begins a stretch of 9 consecutive matchups between the Chasers & Sky Sox. Colorado Springs won 3 of 4 matchups earlier this year at Security Service Field to begin the 2017 campaign. OF Billy Burns over those 4 contests hit.438 (7-16) with 3 runs, 1 RBI & 3 walks to lead Omaha, while INF Ryan O Hearn posted a.333 clip (6-18) along with 2 doubles, 1 HR & 2 RBI. The Chasers pitching staff combined for a 5.45 ERA (24 ER/34.2 IP) in their 4 outings versus Colorado Springs. Dating back through the 2011 campaign, Omaha enters this series with a 33-31 advantage against the Sky Sox, which includes an 18-18 clip at Security Service Field. The Chasers are coming off a 2-2 series split with Memphis, while Colorado Springs split their 4-game road set in New Orleans. STORM STORIES C Cam Gallagher has recorded a hit in 12 of his last 13 games dating back to 5/25, batting.439 (18-41) with 8 runs, 5 doubles, 3 HR & 12 RBI. Since joining the Chasers on 6/5, OF Jorge Soler ranks T-1st in the PCL with 24 RBI in that span alongside Oklahoma City s Willie Calhoun, in addition to T-2nd in HR (8). Omaha had given up the game s 1st run in each of their last 4 contests & 6 of their last 7 prior to yesterday. The Chasers have posted a 26-10 mark when scoring 1st, as opposed to an 11-26 tally when their opponent records the game s 1st run. WHAT ARE YOU? MOBILE! AGILE! HOSTILE! INF Raul Mondesi recorded his 4th consecutive multi-hit effort yesterday, and now has hits in 14 of his last 16 games. He has tallied 2 or more knocks in 11 of those 16 tilts. Dating back to 6/8, he owns a.431 average (28-65) with 13 runs, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR & 13 RBI. Mondesi in that span ranks T-3rd in the PCL in doubles, 4th in hits, T-5th in total bases (43), T-6th in extra-base hits (10) & 7th in batting average. During this hot streak he has raised his 2017 batting average 45 points from.301 to.346, which entering play today ranks 4th in the PCL. Mondesi entering play today also ranks T-1st in the circuit in stolen bases (16). WHY THE CLOUDS, SUNSHINE? The Omaha pitching staff has combined to allow a HR in each of their last 15 games going back to 6/9. Those hurlers have relinquished a total of 25 roundtrippers in that time frame, the 2nd-most of any MiLB team behind only El Paso (29). Going back further, Chasers pitchers have yielded a big fly in all but 2 of their 22 June contests. The 34 homers surrendered by Omaha this month rank T-3rd among all MiLB & PCL teams, behind El Paso (39) & Albuquerque (37). The 1,216 longballs given up by PCL teams overall this year rank 3rd behind any professional league, behind only the American League (1,478) & National League (1,405). YOU BETTER MAKE YOURSELF REAL COMFORTABLE Tonight begins a 9-game stretch in which Omaha & Colorado Springs will face each other over an 8-day span. That stretch marks the 1st time Omaha will play an opponent for 8 straight games or more since facing New Orleans in 8 consecutive contests between 8/16-23. Omaha in that span posted a 6-2 record versus the Zephyrs, including a 4-game sweep in New Orleans from 8/16-19. Several other PCL clubs will face the same opponent in 8 straight days later this year, including Albuquerque & Reno (8/28-9/4), Memphis & Nashville (8/11-18), as well as Memphis & Iowa (8/24-31). Staumont 7 Colorado Springs Sky Sox (43-30) LHP Andrew Barbosa (2-1, 5.85) WELL WHAT HAPPENED WAS The Chasers salvaged a series split thanks to their 5-3 win over Memphis at Werner Park yesterday afternoon. Omaha DH Jorge Soler (2-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI) homered & drove in a game-high 4 RBI, & was joined by CF Billy Burns (2-4, R), SS Raul Mondesi (2-4) & RF Bubba Starling (2-4) in recording multi-hit efforts. Redbirds DH Breyvic Valera (3-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) tallied a game-high 3 hits & drove in 2 of Memphis 3 runs, while 2B Alex Mejia (2-4) collected 2 knocks as well. Chasers starter Luke Farrell (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, ER, 0 BB, 9 K) fanned 9 & did not walk a batter for the 2nd consecutive contest, earning his team-best 7th victory. Omaha relievers Miguel Almonte (2.0 IP, 2 H, BB) & Malcom Culver (1.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, BB, K) finished the job, with Almonte receiving his 1st hold & Culver his 7th save. Redbirds starter Jack Flaherty (3.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) suffered the defeat to fall to 1-1. YOU RE HALL OF FAME IN MY BOOK The Pacific Coast League announced today RHP Luke Farrell as the circuit s Pitcher of the Week for June 19-25. Farrell posted a 2-0 record & 1.29 ERA (2 ER/14.0 IP), adding a league-best 18 strikeouts in that period. Following his strong outing yesterday, he has recorded a quality start in 5 of his last 6 times out. Entering play today, Farrell ranks 2nd in the PCL in wins (7), T-3rd in WHIP (1.19), 6th in strikeouts (77), 7th in batting average against (.230) & 9th in ERA (3.83). He is the 2nd Chasers hurler to earn a weekly accolade from the PCL this year after LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (April 6-16), marking the 1st time 2 Omaha pitchers have earned weekly awards from the PCL since 2014. Clay Mortensen & Ryan Verdugo earned back-to-back Pitcher of the Week honors between June 2-16 that year. LEFT SIDE! (STRONG SIDE?) With tonight s scheduled pitching matchup, it is expected to be the 7th Chasers game this year that would feature lefty starters facing each other. It would also be the 2nd time in 3 Omaha contests after LHP Danny Duffy dueled Memphis LHP Marco Gonzales on 6/24 at Werner Park. Tonight would be the 3rd time a matchup of that kind has occurred on the road, with the last occasion on 5/9 at Salt Lake when LHP Eric Skoglund face LHP Nate Smith. The Chasers have faced a lefty starter ten times in 2017, combining for a 6-4 clip in those contests. INF Raul Mondesi leads the club with a.409 clip (18-44) against southpaws, with OF Jorge Soler tallying a.350 average (8-20) versus lefties with Omaha. EVERYWHERE WE GOOO (EVERYWHERE WE GOOO) INF Dean Anna has compiled a.293 average (27-92) in his 27 road games this year, compared to a.228 clip (21-92) over 29 contests at Werner Park. His SLG is 142 points higher on the road (.446) than at home (.304). INF Raul Mondesi has also fared well away from Omaha, batting.320 (32-100) with 4 of his 6 longballs with the Chasers coming away from Werner Park. Mondesi has recorded hits in 19 of his 23 road games with at least 1 plate appearance in 2017, which included a 12-game road hit streak from 5/7-6/1 (.370, 20-54). OF Bubba Starling has tallied a hit in 17 of his last 19 away matchups dating back to 5/9, batting.321 (25-78) with 10 runs, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR & 6 RBI. PREVIOUS MATCHUPS VS.
