A LITERARY CONTRIBUTION Tick Tock Tick by Guido Thomsett Even though I m still asleep Hard earned money is being spent. How! You may say with a raised eyebrow. Well my fridge is still keeping cool. Tv and stereo stand by. Lights are pin point red. Mobile has been charging throughout the night. With all the family s electronic toys, digital clock by my head shatters a best forgotten dream. Still dark so flick a switch to see my way. Flick again the kettle starts to boil. I ve had my cuppa and planned the day. The shower is hot. Pilot light has been burning for years. Water running through my toes gurgling down the drain. More flicking switches. To blow wave my hair then an electric shave. Dressed. Slam The door behind me open another. The cars. One hour s drive. As I Stop and start the traffic snarls to beat the ticking clock! Ah! Petrol is going up soon. Better fill the tank. Oops! The Mastercard is in red. Thank God it s Friday. Pay day for me. What a joke as I mentally add up my debts. Park the car then feed the meter. Through a revolving door and at my station. The boss in my face. I thought I had problems. He s trying to save the firm. Plus my weekly wage.
