Profile Of Activities DAY: Saturday February 21 st... from 12am to 4pm Description of the Winter Wellness Day: Day of activities promoting personal wellness and the outdoors at Sugarloaf Park. Organized by the Montagnards Outdoors Club in collaboration with Parks NB, the Department of Healthy and Inclusive Communities and in partnership with the Sugarloaf Provincial Park and the Atholville Winter Carnival. 1) FOUR INFORMATION KIOSQUES ON WELLNESS: BOOTH #1: Healthy Nutrition during Outdoors Activities... Explanation of the nutritional value of foods The participants of the organized outdoor activities during the Winter Wellness Day will be invited to choose nutritious foods (provided FREE OF CHARGE at the booth) to bring along as a healthy snack to enjoy while participating in their outdoor activities (ex. games, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing). Game Questionnaire on the nutritional value of foods & Draw: The participants, kids and adults will be invited to fill out - a fun multiple choice questionnaire on the nutritional value of the foods chosen for their snacks. The participants having completed their questionnaire - will be eligible for a variety of draws during the day. The game-questionnaire will consist of a list of healthy foods distributed at the booth alongside a list of the multiple nutritional potential of these foods. Also at the same booth: Partnering for the Wellness Day, the Department of Healthy and Inclusive Communities will have information on the different programs offered by the Department or other organizations, the NB Wellness Strategic Plan, the different domains of maintaining wellness and the Canadian guidelines pertaining to physical activity. BOOTH #2: Appropriate Clothing Choices for Winter Activities Choosing the correct clothing for your winter activities: A local sports apparel store: will be showcasing a variety of clothing articles (such as: gloves, mitts, tuques, boots, clothing, etc.) for the enjoyment of various winter activities and will discuss the importance of dressing well in order to benefit fully of our winter climate. The expert present will explain the technical makeup of each garment and their advantage and benefits when involved in different winter sports and varying winter temperatures.

BOOTH #3: The joys of all-season outdoor activities at Sugarloaf Park... Discover the multitude of outdoor activities available at your Sugarloaf Park: A member of the Montagnards Outdoor Club will highlight the various healthy outdoor activities that Sugarloaf Park has to offer in winter as well as year-round. An ongoing projection slideshow will highlight the natural and panoramic four-season attractions within the park. The public will have the opportunity to inquire about the advantages of joining the Les Montagnards Club, the outdoor activity club at Sugarloaf Park. BOOTH #4: Healthy benefits of yoga Presence of an expert in the teaching and practice of Yoga techniques, meditation, Thai therapy and Life coaching. Information on the healthy benefits to be gained by the practice of Yoga. (Registrations taken for the 2pm outing) 1) OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS: Have our youth discover the joys of getting involved in winter outdoor activities. FREE activities FOR THE YOUTH The kids will have the opportunity to do bird watching, feed the birds, and explore the panoramic view situated to the west of the Montagnards chalet. ACTIVITY #1: Short hike on snowshoes or cross-country skis for kids... Short hikes on snowshoes or cross-country skis guided by volunteer outdoor enthusiast will be offered all day. The trail/trajectory will vary according to the age group. The required EQUIPMENT (snowshoes and cross-country) will be available FREE OF CHARGE. This specially adapted equipment can be used with ordinary winter boots. The excursions for kids will lead them towards a wooded area, where they will be able to distinguish an ancient tree being used as a feeding spot by particular bird (the Pileated Woodpecker); They will have access to binoculars and a compass if they wish to do bird watching or get an overview of the whole region once arrived at the plateau/panoramic view; They will have available bird food if the occasion presents itself. A variety of games for kids organised in the vicinity of the chalet (the stadium area of cross- country skiing) will be animated by volunteers and prizes will be handed out to participants.

ACTIVITY #2: Introduction to the Geocaching Activity... During the short excursions (Activity #1), the participants (according to age level) will be initiated to geocaching. By using the monitor s handheld portable GPS device and their own compasses, the participants will be led towards finding their way to the ultimate-panoramic view destination... where they may discover a Treasure! {Geocaching is a fun game of diversion and adventure for participants of all ages. With the help of a GPS (global positioning system) device, paired with coordinates found on the Internet (geocaching.com, the official site of the game) which indicates to you the area of a cache (treasure). FREE Activities FOR THE YOUTH & ADULTS ACTIVITY #3: Snowshoe and Cross-Country Ski Excursions Adults are invited to discover the Montagnards range of snowshoe and cross-country ski trails near the club chalet and also other activities in proximity of the parks main lodge... Cross-country skiing on the Terry Fox trail; Walking trails (for pedestrian and dogs on a leach); Snowshoe trails; Ice skating, are all within walking distance. The #5 & #6, snowshoeing (±3 km each) reach (No.5) to spectacular Prichard Lake or to circumvent it (No.6). They may choose to simply reach the lookout area situated west of the Montagnards chalet, offering a panoramic view of the park and region. Club members /volunteers will be on hand to accompany the participants in their choice of trails within the Montagnards snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails network. All group departures will be at 1pm. Note: Multiple pairs of snowshoes with poles and the equipment for cross-country skiing will be available free of charge. The regular trail access fees to the cross-country ski trails will be cancelled for the day. ACTIVITY #4: Walking Meditation 2pm - Group departure: Participants, directed by a monitor, begin this experience with some Yoga movements to warm up the joints and muscles followed with a walking meditation using the senses to appreciate the beauty of the nature and the self.

3) WINTER SPORT EQUIPMENT DEMONSTRATION ACTIVITY #1: Demonstration of adapted sport equipment Representatives of the Para NB - Sport & Recreation association, will give a demonstration of a variety of adapted sport equipment available for persons having physical limitations... cross country ski equipment, downhill skiing and sledge hockey. The attendants will be present at the Montagnards chalet with the equipment to try out and also at the main chalet ice rink and alpine slopes. ACTIVITY #2: Demonstration of Winter Fat Bike cycling Members of the River Valley Cycling club (Fredericton NB) will give demonstrations of the capabilities & fun factor of the recent trend in winter cycling (with oversized tires) on groomed snow trails. They will be present at the Montagnards chalet and also the alpine ski slopes, near the main chalet. Come and Enjoy Winter at Your Sugarloaf Park! www.parcsugarloafpark.ca Safety/Security measures: The Montagnards Outdoor Club in collaboration with the Sugarloaf Ski Patrol will be taking reasonable precautionary measures to maintain safety and security during the Winter Wellness Day.
