NCAA GIRLS HOCKEY 2017-2018 1. SEASON OF PLAY Girls = Winter Season 2. LEVELS OF COMPETITION Senior Level (Varsity) Girls 3. ELIGIBILITY The following classifications shall apply for Senior GIRLS HOCKEY: A/AA under - 951 students AAA 951 and over Note: Note: School classification is based on enrolment on October 31st of the PREVIOUS school year. According to ARTICLE XV; Section 1, a team may opt to play at a higher classification if they declare their intention by the Declaration of Play deadlines. The athlete s birth certificate indicates that she has not reached her 19th birthday by January 1st prior to the start of the school year in which the competition is held. A school/team must conduct a bona fide high school program consisting of seven (7) practices over a 3 month period [dry land and ice] under the supervision of a teacher as certified by the school principal. To be considered a team eligible for OFSAA Girls Hockey Championship play, a team must play in an Association approved league and play a minimum of a six game schedule and/or participate in a minimum of six exhibition/tournament games. No competitor is eligible for OFSAA-sanctioned events whose name has appeared on a game sheet, and has dressed, after December 1st for any Senior AAA teams of the CWHL, or who is a member of the National Junior under 22, National Junior under 18 or National Senior team. 4. ELIGIBILITY SHEETS A copy of a signed NCAA eligibility sheet must be received by the Convener at least 2 full school days prior to each team s first league game. 5. GAME TIME Game time is contingent to home school ice availability. 6. HOME SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES provide and prepare minor officials (scorekeeper and timer) use NCAA score sheets 7. PAYMENT OF OFFICIALS The officials will be paid at games. The home team will pay for all home matches (including the playoffs).the visiting team is responsible for transportation costs to and from the competition. 1

If a gate is charged at an NCAA league or playoff game, then all expenses will be paid from the gate and then the rest will be divided equally between home and visiting team. In the event a playoff game is played at a neutral site then the cost of the officials will be shared equally between participating teams. 8. REPORTING SCORES The home team will report the scores to the Athletic Convener in charge. The official score sheet must be received by the convener no later than 24 HOURS following the competition. 9. OFFICIALS All officials must be accredited. 10. OFFICIAL RULE BOOK Zone policies first, then the OMHA - Official Rule Book FOR HOCKEY will govern Zone Hockey. 11. GAME FORFEITURES The following policies are in place for game forfeitures: (1) Should a team forfeit a game with less than 48 hours notice, all costs associated with the game shall be charged to the forfeiting school. (2) Should a team forfeit a game; the forfeiting team will be given a loss as a result of the forfeit. (3) Should a team forfeit two (2) games during regular season play, the team shall be removed from the league and all points earned in games played against that team shall be removed from league standings. (4) A team that forfeits a game during the regular season loses all rights with regards to tie breaking procedures. (i.e. if the team is tied for 3rd, the team will be relegated to 4th place). (5) A team that forfeits a playoff game shall also forfeit the right to play any further playoff games at the current or subsequent level of playoffs (i.e. when two teams qualify for SOSSA). (April 2016) 12. LEAGUE FORMAT FOR NCAA GIRLS HOCKEY All sport schedules shall have NO more than 12 league games in a season. & game schedule is preferred. In team sports where standings are used to determine play-offs, the win/loss achieved against teams that drop out will be taken away (not added) to teams that are still yet to play them. LEAGUE PLAY-OFF FORMAT FOR NCAA GIRLS HOCKEY The best of three playoff series is eliminated in favor of a single or two game elimination playoff formats. Play off structure for NCAA New October 2077 The NCAA will have Junior and Senior league and play off structures. 2

Most times all 8 teams making the play offs will play a quarter, semi and final. Highest vs lowest seeds. If there are: 7 teams top team gets a bye 6 teams top two teams get a bye 5 teams top 4 teams play a semi and final 4 teams -semi and final 3 teams top team gets a bye and plays the winner of 2 nd vs 3 rd 2 teams one game final 1 team that team moves on to their zone. Note: Other sports may adopt a different format see individual sport regulations or the specific sport web page for clarification. (I.E. Senior boys and girls soccer voted for league only-no play offs) NOTE-THE FURTHEST ADVANCING TEAM IN NCAA PLAY OFFS SHALL BE FIRST IN THEIR ZONE AND CLASSIFICATION, FOLLOWED BY LEAGUE STANDINGS AND THEN THE TIE BREAKERS FOUND IN SPORT REGULATIONS AND OR THE CONSTITUTION. During hockey playoffs, the home team should book two hours of ice time in order to try and prevent the implementation of arena curfew procedures. (March 2015) Play-offs will be determined at the Conveners Individual Sport Body Meeting. All schools participating are to send a representative to the Conveners Individual Sport Body Meeting otherwise forfeit all rights for input in the league and play-off format. In playoff situations in high school hockey, teams will play 4 on 4 in an attempt to break a tie. Breaking a play-off tie because of an Arena Curfew: 1) TIED PLAY-OFF GAME: If a play-off game is tied at point 10 minutes before the arena curfew time, then the game will be stopped; there will be 5 minute sudden death overtime (straight time) period played. If a tie still exists then a sudden death shoot out will occur. 2) NOT TIED AT 10 MINUTES before curfew BUT BECOMES TIED at curfew: If a play-off game is NOT tied at a point 10 minutes before the arena curfew time, then the game continues. If the game is tied AT curfew then the winner will be the team ahead at a point 10 minutes before curfew. Note: BOTH 1) AND 2) WILL ONLY BE IN EFFECT IF THE CURFEW COMES BEFORE THE END OF REGULATION GAME TIME. 3

13. PLAY-OFF FORMAT FOR ZONE 3 AND 4 GIRLS HOCKEY (NRHSAA/NCAA) The NRHSAA representative in each classification and zone will play the NCAA representative in each classification and zone. The winner of that game will be the zone champion and will go to SOSSA. If a second entry to SOSSA exists, then the second place finisher in the zone champion s association may challenge the runner up in the zone final for the second entry into SOSSA. If a challenge game takes place then the runner up in the zone final will host the challenge game. In odd starting school years, the NCAA will host boys zone championship games and the NRHSAA will host girls zone championship games. In even starting school years, the NCAA will host girls zone championship games and the NRHSAA will host boys zone championship games. As Nov. 2017 14. Timing of Games NCAA will play 3, 15 minute periods (stop time) OR until curfew, whichever comes first. For both zones, in the last ten (10) minutes of the game with a 5" or more goal spread, the clock shall run; and with three (3) minutes remaining in the game with a 3" or more goal spread, the clock shall run. The referee has the option to stop a game at any time. 15. SUSPENSIONS Ejection from competition: When a player is ejected from a game, that player is not to leave the ice surface until met by a coach at the exit door. The coach is to walk the player to the change room. Game Suspensions leading to a team removal from league play: Following a one game suspension (defined as a penalty which results in a player missing the next game (or more than one game) as the result of a game *misconduct or match penalty due to unsportsmanlike behavior, as defined by the OMHA rule book), the high school administrator will receive a form letter from the NRHSAA Executive, through the sports convener, indicating the suspension as well as the progressive repercussions should more suspensions occur within that season. Following a team s third game suspension that team will be notified that it will be on a one year probation during the following season. Probation indicates that should that team incur three game suspensions once again, in that following season, said team will be removed from league play for the remainder of that season (forfeiting any rights to post season participation), and will not be permitted to participate in that sport in the season to follow. Following a team s fifth game suspension within a season, that team will be removed from league play, effective immediately, and will not be permitted to participate in the following season. If a player(s) is/are ejected from a league or play off high school hockey game, there will be an automatic 1 game suspension. (Refer to: Constitution) AND for other hockey OMHA altercations EXCEPT FOR MP 38 and GM - 30 (dealing with fighting) assessed by a referee(s), the OMHA SUSPENSIONS will be applied by the Convenor. 4

For MP 38 and GM 30 (dealing with fighting) and other altercations, SECTION 2 OF ARTICLE XXV page 22 OFTHE NCAA CONSTITUTION will be applied by the Convenor. If a player receives a major penalty, her team will play shorthanded for five (5) minutes and that player is ineligible in the remainder of that game and in her team s next game (automatic game ejection). (See exception in major for fighting). If a player receives a game misconduct penalty, that player is ineligible to play in the remainder of that game and her team s next game. The disciplinary review committee may review the offence and sign a further suspension. If a player receives a gross misconduct penalty, that player is ineligible to play in the remainder of that game and her team s next game. If the penalty is assessed in the last ten minutes of regular time, or any time in overtime, or at the conclusion of the game prior to the player entering her dressing room, she is ineligible to play in her team s next two (2) games. TIE BREAKING PROCEDURES 5

These procedures shall be used when determining a play-off position when a league schedule leads to play-offs: (1) Record between tied teams; Play offs included. (2) Record against teams higher in the standings (1 above, then 2 above, etc.); (3) Record against teams lower in the standings (1 below, then 2 below, etc.); (4) (a) Coin flips to determine play-off position only. The conveners will perform the coin flip. The school that is alphabetically highest will have heads in the coin flip. The convener will notify schools of the results. (b) Play-off in a neutral arena or a coin flip for home advantage if both coaches agree, if it is to determine the final play-off position. (c) In the event of a four way tie, the conveners in consultation with the NCAA Executive and the schools involved will determine a tie-breaking procedure. 17. ZONE CLASSIFICATION TO SOSSA 1 champion from each Zone will go to SOSSA. The championship will be held in the winter at least one week prior to the OFSAA. Check ofsaa.com for that date. 6
