Press Coverage for the Peace Memorial Ceremony Coverage for the Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 6 will be carried out following these regulations. We thank you for your cooperation. I Approved Media Organizations In principle, permission to cover the Peace Memorial Ceremony is granted only to the following media organizations: 〇 Member companies of the Japan Newspaper Publishers and Editors Association 〇 Member companies of the National Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Japan 〇 Member companies of the Foreign Press in Japan 〇 Foreign media organizations consigned by the Foreign Press Center 〇 Member companies of the Hiroshima City Press Club II Press Passes In order to maintain the solemn nature of the Ceremony and for security reasons, the area set aside for the press is limited. To cover the Ceremony in a press area you must wear a Press Pass issued by the City of Hiroshima (see right) and an armband. Please hang the Press Pass in front of your chest, where it can be seen, and wear the armband on your left arm, so that security personnel can recognize them easily. Press Passes are used to distinguish between specific coverage locations by using different colors (see Map 1). After double-checking your desired area to cover, please acquire the necessary Press Pass. Applying for a Press Pass Document to submit: Application to Cover the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony (Attachment 1) Submission deadline: 5:00 p.m., August 3 Applications should be submitted in person or by e-mail. We will ask for your business card, and we may check your ID, such as a company ID or your passport. Please make sure you bring some form of photo ID with you. Last time to pick up Press Passes: 5:00 p.m., August 3 If you should fail to pick up your Press Pass by 5:00 p.m., August 3, please come to the press reception desk within the Ceremony headquarters between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on August 6 and we will issue your pass at this time. (Bear in mind that applications must still be submitted by the above listed submission deadline.) - 2 -
III Special Regulations for Specific Coverage Locations (See Map 1) Location 1 Classification Color of Press Pass Number of persons permitted Writers Green One from each company 2 Radio broadcasters Orange Minimum number of staff from each company necessary for coverage Time restrictions 7:30 a.m. until the end of the Ceremony 7 TV & photographers (On the roof of the Peace Memorial Museum) Blue Two from each TV company and one from each newspaper or news agency 7:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. 8 TV & photographers (east side path of the ceremony site) Purple Two from each TV company and 1 from each newspaper or news agency 7:30 a.m. until the end of the Ceremony A White Press Pass will be issued to press reporters and crew members, liaison staff who are outside of areas 1,2,7 and 8.You cannot enter the area above with a White Pass. Note 1: Please be in designated area by the designated time. Due to security reasons, latecomers will not be allowed to enter the press area. You may not leave the press area before the end of the Ceremony. Entering or crossing the central path, the stairs in front of the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims, the open square under the stairs, and the unassigned seats, is strictly prohibited. Note 2: Photography is prohibited in areas 1 and 2. Note 3: Please enter area 7 between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. by climbing up the stairs of the Peace Memorial Museum Main Building, through the main gate of the temporary fence. To protect water proofing membranes, protective sheeting is laid out on the rooftop. Access beyond the protective sheeting area is strictly prohibited. In order to receive a Press Pass required for admittance to area 7, you will need to submit the Written Pledge (see Attachment 2) in advance. Please note that in the Peace Memorial Museum Main Building, which is currently under reconstruction, no lights or restrooms are available. Furthermore, filming or photography is strictly prohibited in the second floor area of the Peace Memorial Museum. Note 4: Several metal stands will be set up for common use near the Memorial Cenotaph in area 8. You are not permitted to use a stepladder on the stands, as it will disrupt the audio speaker system. IV Free Distribution of Pictures Free SD cards of photographs taken in area 3 by the City of Hiroshima on August 6 will be distributed. If you would like to have one of the SD cards, please check the box provided on the Application to Cover the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony (see Attachment 1) and submit it to the Public Relations Division. Number of pictures: Approx. 300 pictures taken in area 3 Storage media: SD card (standard size) File format: JPEG Distributed: From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., August 6 (You may need to wait for the data.) Images V Other Regulations and Requests Entering the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims area at any time including before and after the ceremony is strictly prohibited. In addition, please be considerate of the feelings of those paying their respects at the Cenotaph and do not, at any time, block the front of the Cenotaph to film or photograph. Between 6:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., press coverage is not allowed in the area in front of the Cenotaph (see blue area on Map 2) as staff from the City of Hiroshima will be guiding ceremony participants to control crowd congestion. Out of respect for the sentiments of participants, we ask that press members covering the Ceremony please wear appropriate clothing (for example, white dress shirts and black pants). Simultaneous interpretation into English with a receiver will be available at the seats for reporters in area 1 (see Map 1). On August 6, you will be able to obtain your receiver at the press reception desk. Please return the receiver promptly after the Ceremony. If you have any inquiries regarding Ceremony coverage, please immediately contact the City staff wearing armbands marked 報道広島市 at the site or staff at the press reception desk. Please refrain from covering the Ceremony by air between 7:40 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. on August 6 during the Ceremony to respect to the sentiments of participants. Additionally, flying drones is prohibited in the Peace Memorial Park. The press waiting room will be open for your use in Ran 2 on the 2 nd basement floor of the ICCH between 6:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on August 6 (see Map 3). Please feel free to use the electrical sockets in the press waiting room and wireless access points for the Internet. You can also use the wireless Internet in the lobby in front of the Dahlia Room on the same floor.
