Alcorn State is one of two schools Liberty will face in the SWAC this season (Alabama State). According to KenPom, Scottie James ranks No. 7 in the country in effective field goal percentage (87.6). James leads the ASUN in field goal percentage (81.8) this season. James' consecutive field goal makes ended at Vandy with 17 straight made field goals. James is ranked No. 52 in the nation and No. 2 in the ASUN with 9.8 rebounds per game. Lovell Cabbil ranks No. 8 in the ASUN, averaging 14.3 points per game. The Flames have been out-rebounded in their last two games at Kent State and Vanderbilt. As Liberty enters its first season in the ASUN, the Flames were picked third in the Coaches Preseason Poll. The Flames averaged 70.8 points per game and the remaining returners were responsible for 52.6 of those points. Liberty set the school record for most wins in backto-back seasons (43) passing the 1996 and 1997 seasons with 40 wins. The Flames were two wins away from tying the DI school record for most home wins in a season (15 in 2009). 2018-19 SCHEDULE & RESULTS OVERALL RECORD: 3-1 ASUN: 0-0 Non-Conference: 3-1 Home: 2-0 Away: 1-1 Neutral: 0-0 NOVEMBER 8 MAINE FORT KENT W, 89-40 13 TREVECCA NAZARENE W, 93-40 16 at Kent State W, 77-70 19 at Vanderbilt L, 70-79 23 ALCORN STATE 2 p.m. 25 SAVANNAH STATE 2 p.m. 28 at Navy 7 p.m. DECEMBER 1 GEORGIA STATE 6 p.m. 3 at Georgetown 6:30 p.m. 11 SOUTH CAROLINA STATE 7 p.m. 15 KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN 2 p.m. 18 vs. Alabama @ Huntsville, Ala.^ 8 p.m. 21 vs. Alabama State# 12 p.m. 22 vs. Austin Peay/Campbell# TBD 29 at UCLA 6 p.m. JANUARY 5 at FGCU* 7 p.m. 9 at Stetson* 7 p.m. 12 JACKSONVILLE* 2 p.m. 16 at Kennesaw State* 7 p.m. 19 NORTH FLORIDA* 7 p.m. 21 NORTH ALABAMA* 7 p.m. 27 at Jacksonville* 2 p.m. 29 LIPSCOMB* 7 p.m. FEBRUARY 2 NJIT* 7 p.m. 5 STETSON* 7 p.m. 9 FGCU* 7 p.m. 13 at Lipscomb* 7:30 p.m. 16 at North Alabama* 4 pm. 23 at North Florida* 5 p.m. 26 KENNESAW STATE* 7 p.m. MARCH 1 at NJIT 7 p.m. 4 ASUN Championship Quarterfinals TBD 7 ASUN Championship Semifinals TBD 10 ASUN Championship Finals TBD 11 Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz 6-1 Junior G 6.8 PPG 1.0 APG 3 Lovell Cabbil Jr. 6-3 Senior G 14.3 PPG 2.3 APG 10 Elijah Cuffee 6-4 Sophomore G/F 7.8 PPG 2.5 APG 5 Keenan Gumbs 6-5 Senior F 8.5 PPG 2.3 RPG 31 Scottie James 6-8 R-Junior Forward 12.3 PPG 9.8 RPG Home Games in BOLD CAPS All times are listed in Eastern Time * - ASUN Conference Game ^ - Rocket City Classic # - St. Pete Shootout 1

McKay and his staff had one of the best in the country as the Flames ranked 19th in Division I in scoring defense, allowing just 63.4 points per last year. NATIONAL RANKING / TEAM 18. REACHING 1K CAREER POINTS Lovell Cabbil Jr. became the 26th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. Cabbil is now the second player in the last two seasons to reach 1,000 career points as Ryan Kemrite reached the milestone last year. If Cabbil averages 11.2 points per game like he did last year, he would be on pace to place No. 15 in school history with 1,369 career points. Also effective on the boards, Cabbil ranks No. 37 on Liberty s all-time rebounding list with Cabbil Jr. 363 career rebounds. After recording 151 rebounds last season, if he posted the same number of rebounds in his senior season, he would rank No. 14 in school history with 511 career rebounds. Lovell Cabbil 1,055 BIG MAN RETURNS TO THE 'BURG Scottie James proved to be one of the best big men in the country averaging 13.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. James shot 61.2 percent from the floor tin 2017-18 which ranked 10th in the nation. James has posted the fifth highest field goal percentage in school history for a season. The big man is the only player in school history to post 11 double-doubles during his sophomore season, ranking second in the Big South rebounds per game and 42nd James in the nation. Always crashing the glass, James posted double-digit rebounds in 13 games last season including three games with 15 boards. NEW FACES ON THE BENCH Ritchie McKay will have some new faces next to him on the bench as he hired Kevin Anderson and Derek Johnston as assistant coaches. In addition to Anderson and Johnston, McKay also hired Joe Pierre III as the Director of Player Development. Johnston comes from the University of Alabama Huntsville where he served as an assistant coach under head coach Lennie Acuff. During his three years at UAH, Johnston helped the Chargers win two Gulf South Conference (GSC) regular season titles and a GSC tournament title. Anderson is acquainted with Liberty basketball as he spent last season at Campbell working as the assistant director of basketball operations. While working at Campbell, Anderson's duties included breaking down film for games and practices while also building great relationships with the players. Anderson helped the Camels post back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in school history while making the postseason in both of his seasons on staff. Pierre joins Liberty's staff after serving as a graduate assistant for Middle Tennessee working for Kermit Davis. During his two years at Middle Tennessee, the Blue Raiders went 56-13 with two postseason tournament appearances. CLUTCH AT THE FREE THROW LINE Last season, Liberty was clutch at the charity stripe, as the Flames ranked fourth in the country in free throw percentage, according to Kenpom. In Kenpom s rankings, it removed Liberty s non-di games, which puts Liberty s free throw percentage at 80.2 percent for the season. Liberty ranked first and fourth in the Big South in free throw percentage. Georgie Pachec0-Ortiz (89.9) and Lovell Cabbil (85.3). Pacheco-Ortiz ranks 15th in the countryas well. Liberty had six players shooting at least 82 percent from the free throw line and also eight players at 71 percent or better. Pacheco-Ortiz's free throw percentage was the third highest ever by an individual in school history in a season. The record is held by Matt Hildebrand (92.6 percent). MAKING SCHOOL HISTORY Liberty set new records within the school s history as the Flames became the first team to post 20-plus wins in back-to-back seasons. With back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, the Flames set the school record for most wins (43) in a two-year span during its DI era, breaking the school record when Liberty went 17-12 in 1996 and 23-9 in 1997. For the first time since 1997, Liberty posted back-to-back winning seasons. Liberty also played in back-to-back postseasons for the first time in school history. CHALLENGING NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE This will be one of Liberty's toughest non-conference schedules in school history, featuring five teams that played in the postseason last year, including three NCAA Tournament teams. The Flames will face three Power 5 schools, which ties the school record for most Power 5 opponents faced in a season. Liberty will be challenged all across the country as the Flames will travel to six different states playing teams in the BIG EAST, PAC-12, SEC, Sun Belt and Mid-American conferences. Throughout the season, the Flames will travel to eight different states. 3

LIBERTY TEAM NOTES LIBERTY-VIRGINIA TECH HURRICANE RELIEF GAME Liberty and Virginia Tech raised over 36,000 dollars on Sunday at the Vines Center as the two basketball programs came together for a Hurricane Relief Exhibition Game in front of a crowd of 4,210. After leading at halftime, Liberty fell to the Hokies 86-70 for its final exhibition game before starting the season. This is the second straight year that men's basketball participated in a hurricane relief exhibition as the Flames traveled to VCU last year to raise money for the hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico. The Flames were able to pull of the 85-69 win over the Rams. BAXTER-BELL AND CUFFEE VISIT ASIA Myo Baxter-Bell and Elijah Cuffee spent some time in Asia this summer playing basketball with different organizations. Cuffee went with Asa Watson and travelled with Urban Discovery Ministries and FCA where he was the only American on his team. The sophomore played a handful of games over the course of two weeks, winning every contest. Baxter-Bell traveled with Athletes in Action where the team was made up of players from over 15 different Baxter-Bell universities and they played against pro/club teams in East Asia. In addition to playing 10 games, Baxter-Bell and his team also visited areas throughout Asia providing assistance to towns and served as a mentor to the youth. WELCOME TO THE 'BURG FRESHMEN Liberty men's basketball signed a trio of players in Darius McGhee, Blake Preston and Josh Price. All three student-athletes hail from the state of North Carolina. A Charlotte 3A All-State selection, Preston averaged 13.8 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 3.5 bpg and 1.4 apg in his senior season. McGhee was a VISAA Division II All-State honoree in his final season at Blue Ridge School and scored over 3,000 points throughout his high school career. Price comes from a basketball family as his father, Mark Price, played 12 seasons in the NBA. Price is an exceptional shooter as he averaged 12.3 ppg at Carmel Christian School. GUMBS: RISE FROM DIVISION III TO DIVISION I Liberty's fourth and final member to its Class of 2018 was graduate transfer, Keenan Gumbs from Schreiner University. Gumbs spent four years at Schreiner University, a Division III school, playing for head coach Connor Kuykendall. Gumbs proved to be one of the best players in the country at the Division III level averaging 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game in his final season. In 2018 Gumbs was the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Player of the Year and Tournament MVP. Gumbs was recognized as one of the best players in Division III this past season as he was selected as an NABC Third Team All-American and a NABC First Team All-South Region selection. As a three-year captain and two-year starter, Gumbs was a two-time First Team All-SCAC honoree in his final two seasons at Schreiner. MCGHEE PLAYS IN THE PHILIPPINES After graduating from Blue Ridge School, Darius McGhee traveled to the Philippines where he played for an organization called Global Squad. McGhee was interviewed on CNN after McGhee and his team went 4-0 against four colleges from the Philippines. Against Anteno de Manila University, McGhee hit a game-winning three-pointer. Colorado State (Head Coach) 1996-98...Portland State (Head Coach) After spending six seasons working under Tony Bennett as associate head coach at Virginia, McKay returned to Liberty as the men s basketball head coach on April 1, 2015. McKay previously served as the program s head coach during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. During his four years since returning to Liberty, McKay has compiled 56 wins, a.611 winning percentage in the Big South and was the 2015-16 Big South Coach of the Year. After the team s 20-win season in 2016-17, McKay was a Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year finalist and a Skip Prosser Man of the Year nominee. McKay is coming off a season where he led Liberty to the postseason, making it to the semifinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament for the first time in school history. Before returning to Liberty, McKay helped the Cavaliers post a 136-64 record, including back-to-back 30-win seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15. Virginia advanced to the NCAA Men s Basketball Tournament three out of McKay s last four years with the program. Following an ACC Championship in 2014, the Cavaliers were the No. 1 seed in the East Region and advanced to the Sweet 16. The Cavaliers spent seven weeks ranked as the No. 2 team in the country in 2014-15, finishing the year with a 30-4 overall record and a 16-2 mark in ACC play. Virginia advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to Final Four team Michigan State. Prior to his days in Charlottesville, McKay served two seasons as Liberty s men s basketball coach, posting a 39-28 overall record and a 19-13 mark in Big South play. He was named the seventh head coach in program history on March 26, 2007. Following a 16-16 record during his first year at Liberty, McKay led the Flames to a 23-12 record in 2008-09. The win total matched the program s NCAA Division I record for most wins in a season (Liberty finished the 1996-97 season with a 23-9 overall record). Liberty finished the 2008-09 season third in the Big South standings, the Flames third double-digit win total in league play in the last 10 seasons (Liberty was 10-8 in 2009-10 and 13-5 in 2010-11). The Flames were invited to play in the inaugural CollegInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT), advancing to the second round following a win over Rider. Under McKay s leadership, forward Anthony Smith (2006-09) finished his career ranked sixth in program history with 1,754 career points scored. Smith was named All-Big South first team in 2009, one of two first-team all-conference student-athletes coached by McKay (Alex McLean in 2008). McKay brought Seth Curry to Liberty and the rookie made an immediate impact on the program. He finished the year averaging 20.2 points per game and was named 2009 Big South Freshman of the Year (second player in program history to receive the honor). Curry spotlighted McKay s Top 50 recruiting class in 2008, which was ranked No. 48 in the country by Basketball Times. McKay has compiled a 204-186 career coaching record in 13 seasons as a head coach. McKay has the winningest career coaching record in program history with a.582 winning percentage. Prior to his first stint as head coach at Liberty, McKay served as head coach at Portland State (1996-98), Colorado State (1998-00), Oregon State (2000-02) and New Mexico (2002-07). Overall at New Mexico, McKay sported an 82-69 coaching record over five seasons. He finished the 2005 campaign with a 26-7 record, winning the Mountain West Conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. McKay posted a 37-23 record at Colorado State, which included a 1999 National Invitational Tournament (NIT) berth. The Rams defeated Mississippi State and in-state rival Colorado at the event, before losing to eventual NIT Tournament champion California in the quarterfinals. The 1999-2000 season featured the first year of play for CSU in the Mountain West, and the Rams logged an 18-12 record and a fourthplace conference finish. A pair of victories over nationally ranked opponents, the first time the program had accomplished the feat at Colorado State in a decade, and capturing the title at the second annual Pearl Harbor Classic in Hawaii were some of the highlights during the season. College Hoops Insider magazine noticed the success of the 2000 Rams and tabbed McKay as its MWC Coach of the Year. Before arriving on the Colorado State campus, McKay began his head coaching career when he was named the head coach at Portland State. McKay started at Portland State in 1995, helping revive a program which had been dormant for 15 years. McKay led the program to nine victories in the school s first season of competition (1996-97) since the early 1980s. After the initial season at Portland State, McKay was named one of six finalists for the Clair Bee Award, given annually to the coach with the most influence and innovation in the game of basketball. Two other finalists for the honor that year were Dean Smith of North Carolina and Mike Krzyzewski of Duke. The 1997-98 Portland State team followed with a 15-12 mark and a third-place finish in the Big Sky Conference. McKay started his basketball coaching career in 1988 as a graduate assistant at the University of Washington. After his start with the Huskies, he spent time as an assistant at Queens College in North Carolina (1989-90), Seattle Pacific (1990-91), and Bradley (1991-93) before returning back to Washington (1993-95). McKay also served as an assistant under Jim Molinari at the 1997 World University Games in Italy, where the USA captured the gold medal. McKay earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in athletic administration from Seattle Pacific in 1988. 6
