GAME NOTES Saturday, May 2, 2015 NEW HAMPSHIRE FISHER CATS (12-10) v. BINGHAMTON METS (13-8) NEW HAMPSHIRE FISHER CATS (12-10) v. BINGHAMTON METS (13-8) RHP Taylor Cole (0-2, 6.52) v. RHP Luis Cessa (1-1, 2.25) 1:05 PM NYSEG Stadium Binghamton, N.Y. Game No. 23 (12-10) Road Game No. 9 (1-7) vs. Binghamton No. 6 (3-2) LAST GAME: The New Hampshire Fisher Cats did all their scoring in the first inning and were undone late Friday night, losing 2-1 to the host Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium. The Fisher Cats had a three-game winning streak snapped despite a superb effort from starting pitcher Matt Boyd (ND), who tossed 5.1 shutout innings with three strikeouts while scattering four singles and walking none. Ryan Schimpf smacked his league-leading fifth homer of the season in the loss. 2015 AT A GLANCE Home 11-3 Road 2-6 Day 2-6 Night 10-4 Extra Innings 2-0 1-Run Games 4-4 2-Run Games 1-0 3-Run Games 1-5 4+Run Games 6-1 Last 5 Games 3-2 Last 10 Games 6-4 April 12-9 May 0-1 June 0-0 July 0-0 August 0-0 September 0-0 Pre All-Star 12-10 Post All-Star 0-0 Lead after 7 7-0 Tied after 7 3-0 Behind after 7 2-9 Lead after 8 9-0 Tied after 8 2-0 Behind after 8 1-9 Scores First 6-4 Opp Scores First 6-6 NH 10+ Hits 7-3 Opp 10+ Hits 5-3 Opp Starts RH 8-6 Opp Starts LH 4-4 C-F-B Wins 7 W-L in Last AB 5-0 Walk-off W/L 3-0 Shutouts by NH 3 Shutouts by OPP 2 Sunday 1-2 Monday 3-0 Tuesday 2-1 Wednesday 1-2 Thursday 1-1 Friday 2-2 Saturday 2-1 White Jerseys 9-1 Blue Jerseys 3-5 Red Jerseys 0-4 Alternate Jerseys 0-0 Postponements H: 1 A: 0 Longest Win Streak 3 Longest Losing Streak 5 TONIGHT S STARTER: Taylor Cole starts the middle game of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon. The righty battled through a rough stretch early in his start on Sunday, but settled in to throw a season-high six innings, allowing three runs on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. He retired the final nine men he faced. THIS, TOO, SHALL PASS: With a hitless performance Friday night, Dwight Smith, Jr. saw his hitting streak snapped at 16 games, two games shy of Brian Dopirak s New Hampshire team record. APRIL TO REMEMBER: The team set or approached several records offensively while winning 12 games, the second most to the 14 won by the 2010 team. They also led the lead in several offensive categories, including average, hits, homers, and slugging. In team history, the month categories ranked: Average: 285 (1 st ); Next:.269 (2013); Worst:.199 (2006) Runs: 93 (4 th ); Most: 112 (2010); Least: 59 (2004) Runs per game: 4.43 (2 nd ); Most: 5.3 (2010); Least: 3.0 (2006) Home runs: 20 (T-1 st ); Most: 20 (2013); Least: 8 (2004, 2005) Wins: 12 (2 nd ); Most: 14 (2010); Least: 8 (2006) QUALITY SHINES THROUGH: After putting up just two quality starts in the first 15 games, the homestand saw starters throw five QS in seven games. Starters also picked up their first three wins of the year from Friday-Sunday. THERE S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Fisher Cats could really use a turnaround in their fortunes when playing away from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. New Hampshire are a sterling 11-3 at home, but has just one win in their first eight road contests of 2015. Of those seven losses, four have come by just one run. This includes three walk-off victories in 14 total home games. EIGHT IS GREAT: The Fisher Cats are outscoring their opposition 19-2 in the eighth inning, and 28-8 from the eighth inning on. HOMER HAPPY: The Fisher Cats lead the Eastern League with 21 homers, including four for Jake Fox and five for Ryan Schimpf, who holds the individual lead. They are 11-3 when they homer but just 1-7 when the fail to go deep. 5-for-5: Hobson s career night on Saturday made him the eighth Fisher Cat to reach five hits in a game. He tallied five singles Saturday, besting his high of four hits, something he accomplished three times in his career, most recently at the end of the 2013 season. He had just 3 hits in his previous 19 at-bats entering the game. RUNS IN BUNCHES: It s taken 17 games for the Fisher Cats to reach the same number of double-digit scoring games as they had all of 2014. Their ten-run outing Saturday was their second straight and their third in six days. FISHER CATS ALUMNI REPORT Kevin Pillar continues to make himself invaluable to the big club. He notched two hits, clubbed a triple and drove in two runs in the Blue Jays 9-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians. Oakland A s third baseman Brett Lawrie continues to heat up. He drove in two runs and cracked a double in Oakland s 7-5 win Friday over Texas. Upcoming Games Probables Time Sunday, May 3 New Hampshire RHP Casey Lawrence (1-3, 3.75) v.
