Short Term Prioritized Bus Stop Locations Goal Identify bus stop locations along the corridor that may warrant additional analysis/evaluation in order to identify short term solutions to improve transit access and safety. 9

Priority Locations: Methodology and Selection Bus Stop clusters were identified, usually pairs but in some cases 3 or 4 stops in close proximity. Bus Stop Groups Total bus stop ridership data was calculated and each location was ranked. Total Ridership Total bike/ped crashes within the vicinity of the locations was calculated and each location was ranked. Total Ped/Bike Crashes Composite ranking was calculated using the sum of the ridership and crash ranking. Composite Ranking 10

Ped & Bike Crash Diagrams 18

Crash Diagram Crash Data Summary 157 identified pedestrian and bicycle crashes directly along US 19 between 2010 and 2014 89 crashes (57%) involved bicyclists 68 crashes (43%) involved pedestrians 133 injuries 10 fatalities (8 pedestrian, 2 bike) 19

Crash Diagram Crash Data Summary Crashes by Time of Day: 20

Crash Diagram Crash Data Summary Crossing vs. Along Crashes: 85 crashes ( 54%) involved people walking/biking along US 19 or crossing side streets 72 crashes ( 46%) involved people crossing US 19 21

Crash Diagram Crash Data Summary 126 crashes (80%) occurred along existing at grade segments 16 crashes occurred along already reconstructed segments 15 crashes occurred along under construction segments 22

Crash Diagram Crash Data Summary Many of the crashes along the already reconstructed segments involved pedestrians crossing mainline traffic, not along the frontage roads Tended to be more severe Crashes within areas that were under construction tended to be along US 19 (not crossing). Exception = Enterprise Rd, mostly crossing crashes Crashes occurred in 2011 and 2012, after opening of the overpass in 2009. 23

Crash Diagram Example Right Turn Conflict No Crosswalk Driveway Conflict 24

Crash Diagram Example Right Turn Conflict Driveway Conflict 25

Crash Diagram Takeaways Increasing safe crossing compliance for peds/bikes at signalized location is critical Turning movements at driveways and intersections are a primary concern Increasing driver visibility of peds/bikes at intersections crosswalks and driveways is a priority Frequent conflicts with bicyclists traveling along the sidewalk (especially against the flow of traffic). 26
