We had great turnouts for our well run Glider and Scale events thanks to Dave Doyon and Chris Rebidoux. Unfortunately, a number of planes experienced some nasty rekitting, not exempting yours truly, at both events. Coming up is the big August Airshow at Leamington Airport. Preparations are still being finalized and we still need about 15 volunteer positions to be filled. A special prize has been donated to the flyers at the event this year. Action Hobbies has donated a 4 stroke motor and JR radio to the pilots. Each pilot will receive a free ticket for each flight and that increases the odds of winning. Let s see lots of flights and you could be the proud owner of one of these prizes. I also have a handful of goodies donated from ZD Bryan Hewitt of MAAC to be distributed to the pilots as well. We would like to all wish Dan Eberwein good luck on his recuperation with his new liver as he recovers at home. We have all been hoping for a speedy recovery and hope to see our buddy Dan back at the field. Speaking of the field, everything is looking in fine shape and we wish to thank Orval and George for keeping it well-groomed this year. Bob Garrett had a great turnout for the float fly and the weather gods gave the event good blessings. The food was good and thanks again to Roger Damore for sponsoring the site. Get a plane ready for next year it s lotsa fun!! Some other interesting upcoming events are the Chris Rebidoux Float Fly September 30 th at Chris s house on Lake Erie and the Staples Fun Fly Aug20th. at the Staples field. On a sad note, the club wishes to send our condolences to the family of our fellow pilot Gord Sansburn who passed away from pneumonia Aug 13 th 2006. See you at the field!! Sun Parlor News Jets over Leamington By Peter Doupnik Congratulations Sun Parlor Members! Our first jet event was a huge success. We had 25 eager pilots from Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario and USA that made the trip to Leamington. They brought a total of 38 jets, with nine different turbines! We also had 4 propeller driven, 4 ducted fans, 3 electrics and 1 turboprop it was a very impressive turn out for a first time effort! After a week of rain, the sun finally came out just in time for the event. Many pilots took advantage of this situation and put on their test flights before the official opening of the rally. A few rookies with shaky knees were hooked up to a buddy box, which eased some of the jitters. (makes me feel good to se that I m not the only one!) The public was invited to look over the models after the noontime show. Most never saw a model jet. Judging by the comments and reactions, they were very impressed. The youngest pilot was our own Michael Doyon who is 12 years old. He did a great job in front of the crowd and is hooked on jets. All we heard from Michael is where can he buy a turbine for 50 bucks. (if you find out please let me know) A formal dinner was held at Days Inn Resort followed by the usual hangar talk. Some great deals on used jets were made! All pilots indicated that they would definitely be back next year with more friends. The only thing they asked is to make it a three day event since some spent four days on the road. I would like to thank everyone for attending, flying and helping out. I can honestly say that I was very proud to be a member of our club. Around 130 flights took place over the three days with no major casualties. Many jet rookie pilots learned all about the different technologies and have a better understanding of what it takes to build and fly a jet. Peter Doupnik cd August 2006 Page 2

Leamington Event By Dan Kalapos Our annual Leamington event is coming up on August 26 th and 27 th and we still have a few volunteer positions to be filled. For those of you who have not yet completed your mandatory four work hours, this is a great opportunity to get it done. As well as promoting our club to the community, this event also brings in income. We need your support to make it work. Take a look at the volunteer list printed further on and make an effort to fill some of the vacancies marked in yellow. For those of you who have already volunteered, please confirm the date and time. If you cannot work for some reason, please contact one of the members of the steering committee right away so we can make arrangements to cover the job. We all need to pull together to make this event a success. In Memoriam It is with deep regret that I must convey the news that Gord Sansburn has passed away on Sunday August 13 th. Gord was a long time member of the club and participated in many events. He was a member of our building group that built the Tiger Moth and B-25 and was a skilled craftsman. Gords presence will be sincerely missed at the field. Dan Kalapos editor Next General Meeting By Dan Kalapos We will begin our regular winter meeting schedule on Monday October 2, 2006. Meetings will be held on the first Monday of each month at the Windsor Flying Club through until April 2007 Dan Kalapos editor Events at other clubs By Dennis Pratt Dan Kalapos editor The Southern RC Flyers are having a fun fly at their field on Sunday August 20 th from 9:00 am until about 3:00 pm. Let s make an effort to turn out and support their event. They are a great bunch of guy s and I m sure a good time is in store for all those who attend. To get to their field, take County Road 8 East until you reach Rochester/Tilbury Town Line. Turn left then take the next right. If you miss the turn off of County Road 8 you will come to highway 77 on the right. Turn around; the first right heading west is Rochester/Tilbury Town Line. See you there!
