Newsletter for November 18 th, 2018 Message from the President Dave and Lorraine Burson NOVEMBER 30, DOUBLE DEAL DANCE, THE THEME IS ROMANCE DANCE. SWINGING STARS DOUBLE DEAL DANCE ON NOV. 30 TH IS OUR NEXT DANCE! We hope you are getting stoked up about the Double deal dance on November 30 th. The Double Deal Dance is coming up fast. Remember that our Double Deal Dance is a lot like our Anniversary Dance, since it's a fundraiser to help Swinging Stars with the expenses during the year. Chairmen Wendy and Bill Perrott's signup sheets are almost full. They're looking for one more volunteer to cover the 8:00-8:30 Food Service, and one more couple to bring dessert to serve 10-12 people. Wendy would appreciate you emailing her at wperrott@hotmail.com if you're willing to do either of these. She'll be emailing the last reminder about the food that you are to bring, and your dance job duty some time next week. The dance will be at Shepherd Elementary School with Caller Wayne Baldwin, Guest Caller Charles Quizenberry, and with Walter Brewer Cueing. We'd also like to remind everyone that the November 23rd dance is canceled, because of Thanksgiving. Our Double Deal Dance on November 30 is in place of the dance on the 23rd SWINGING STARS AFTER THE ROMANCE DANCE PARTY. We want to make sure that you know about the AFTER the dance PARTY, the Swinging Stars have a party following the Double deal Dance. It will be at the home of Dan and Nina Lassiter. They will have maps with the address of there home at the dance on November 30 th. Be sure to pick one up at the sign in desk. We ask that you bring a light snack to share and your favorite beverage. Swinging Stars Holiday Party Saturday December 8 th, 2018 You will not want to miss the Annual Holiday Party. Linda and Charley Harris are in charge of the Annual event. This year it is going to be at a different venue. We are not going to be able to have the party at the Haggard Party Barn. It isn't available to us anymore. We will be celebrating the Holidays at the American Legion Hall post 321, 1236 J Avenue Plano, TX 75074 At 6:00P.M. **Fun and Games** Dancing to Wayne and Walter, BBQ, Trimming! Cash Bar! Location: American Legion Hall post 321* 1236 J Avenue Plano, TX 75074 Price: $21.00 per person includes BBQ dinner and all the trimmings, skits and dancing, with lots of Fun! Pay Betty Wheaton in cash or check (make checks payable to Betty Wheaton) by December 1 st so we can have a good head count for the caterer. Be sure to run by the location, as there are many one way streets in the area. Thanks to Joe and Sandra Rose for the location! There will be a donation jar for contributions to the American Legion Hall. The American Legion generously made their hall available to us for our Holiday Party. Bring CASH!!

Contact Linda or Charlie Harris 214-534-7632 or lindaharristx@hotnail.com, if you can help with setup or cleanup. With this in mind we will be having a New Dancer Dance. We hope you all will come out to meet and dance along with them. If you remember your first new dancer dance, how much you enjoyed having help dancing. It is time to give back and do your part to help these new dancers enjoy dancing at a real square dance. We do appreciate all Swinging Stars Angles that have given time to help with the lessons. They were all helpful making these students become square dancers. The students will be graduating on December 18, but with the restrictions of the Plano Parks and Rec. we can only have those that are designated angels that will be able to attend. The NEW DANCER DANCE is usually well attended by other clubs with new dancers. With great hopes, we are expecting this again this year. The board thought this to be a good time to have a Chili Dinner. We are asking that if you would like to contribute a pot of chilly or some dessert for the dance please tell Lorraine (lorraine@bursons.us ) you would like to make a pot of chili or dessert for the dance. This is not a Cook Off dance, it's a Chili Dinner. There will not be winners or losers. I guess we will all be winners in that we get to enjoy the yummy chili and desserts. * * * EVENTS FROM THE PAST WEEK * * * Texas Reelers Roaring 20's New Dancer Dance Friday, November 16 th Great turnout! 18 Swinging Stars along with 12 of our lesson students visited the Texas Reelers New Dancer Dance for their Roaring 20s dance. Chris Farabaugh cued early rounds and rounds between squares. The mainstream tips were called by club callers Deborah Carroll-Jones and Jon Jones. They both did a great job guiding all the students and introducing everyone to some old time square dance calls. Some of the old time calls were: Ladies Center Back to the Bar, Take a Little Peek, Rip and Snort, and one where there was an extra person in the middle of the square who helped form a star and then was like musical chairs to see who would be left out in finding a partner. There were many great outfits that added to the festive atmosphere. The Swinging Stars who attended the dance were: Bergesens, Bursons, Edwards, Feldmans, Hamms, M. Hardin, Kilejians, Reids, Sees, and C. Wolfe. Rebel Rousers Candy Land Dance Saturday, November 17 th 12 Swinging Stars visited the Rebel Rousers' Candy Land dance Saturday evening. Squares were called by the club caller Mike Bramlett and rounds were provided by club cuer Christine Hixson. Mike called another fast-paced, challenging dance beginning with a half-hour of plus and ending the evening with a hot hash tip that got up to 155 beats per minute. Swinging Stars in attendance were: Bondis, Bursons, Evantos, M. Hardin, Harrises, Sees, and C. Wolfe. * * * COMING EVENTS * * * Plus 4s Date: Caller: Time: Location: Wednesday, 21Nov18 Charles Quisenberry PL - 7:30PM Chapel Hill United Methodist Church 12411 Templeton Tr., Farmers Branch Lone Star Solos - 54 th Anniversary Banner Retrieval Date: Caller: Cuer: Time: Location: Note: Thursday, 29Nov18 Tim Tyl & Dave Vieira Jan Toms ER - 7:00PM / GM 7:30PM Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 3217 Guthrie Rd, Garland Banner retrieval Swinging Stars Friday, Nov 30 th Double Deal Dance Caller: Cuer: Time: Location: Website: Notes: Wayne Baldwin & Charles Quisenberry Walter Brewer ER 7:00PM / PL 7:45PM / GM 8:00PM Shepard Elementary School (1000 Wilson Dr, Plano, TX) http://www.swingingstars.org club double deal dance

Round Dance Lessons update from JL and Linda Pelton We're having great fun with our Waltz class! Because so many of our students are not square or round dancers, we've spent a bit more time with amalgamations of figures they can take out on the ballroom floor in addition to learning some round dances. So far, they have learned all the figures in Tips of My Fingers, Sandy's Waltz, Mission Bell Waltz, and Are You Lonesome Tonight. We should be working on a couple of figures so they can dance Amanda the first class in December. With a Christmas Bazaar at Carpenter Rec Center and the Thanksgiving Weekend, we won't have class again until December 1. Early notice -- we will be teaching Beginning Rumba and Cha Cha in January. Our classes are going to continue to stay on Saturday mornings as that day and time seems to work better for potential students. It also means that we will be able to offer continuous year round dance lessons. More information closer to January. Listening Device Information From Gene and Phyllis Deluke At our dances, the Swinging Stars are pleased to loan, free of charge, a "listening device" to any requesting dancer. Current inventory is two devices, offered on a first-come first-served basis as each dance starts. To answer questions about the listening device email gene_deluke@hotmail.com or phone 972-234-2401. Notice to anyone interested in purchasing a listening device receiver for square or round dancing, Charles Harris has two new William Sound PPA R-37 receivers and one like new used. The new units are priced at $90.00 and the used one at $50.00. All units include the earphone. These are17 channel units versus the 3 channel Listen Brand units and have a five year warranty. If you are interested in purchasing a unit, email Charlie Harris at harris0907@sbcglobal.net or phone 214-348-5361.
