This is what you can look forward to: Monday 1 April: Departure day We fly out of South Africa on Singapore Airlines. Those flying from Cape Town depart mid-morning, while those flying from Johannesburg depart at lunch time. With a comfy plane, superb service, good food and a wide selection of entertainment, you re sure to have a pleasant flight onboard the World s Best Airline for 2018. Tuesday 2 April: After a short leg stretch in Singapore s Changi Airport (rated as the world s best airport), we catch our short connecting flight onboard Silk Air (our favourite short haul airline) to Kota Kinabalu on the island of Borneo. Once there, we take a short air-conditioned coach ride across town to our hotel. Our 4-star hotel is located on the northern side of the original town, providing quick and easy access to the waterfront, malls, the jetty for transfers to many islands, nature excursions, golf and more. We re sure to spend a few afternoons & evenings at the rooftop restaurant & pool (and gym for the energetic) enjoying the views. We ll head off for an oritentation walk mid afternoon to get you familiar with town, and finish at the marina for our sunset dinner cruise a perfect way to slip into island life and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Wednesday 3 April: Whether it be sleeping late, a lazy breakfast, shopping or enjoying the warm weather from the stunning rooftop pool, the morning is completely at leisure and ideal for shaking the jetlag. After lunch, we get together and head off on a guided tour of some of the city highlights finishing off at the Signal Hill Observatory Tour, a lookout point on the hill overlooking the city and coastline, for sunset. Thursday 4 April: The morning is again spent at leisure and we meet up at the hotel after lunch to depart for our afternoon & evening excursion and head to the rivers. Our outing takes us through charming villages and small quaint towns and includes a traditional tea stop, followed by a river cruise to see the remarkable Proboscis Monkeys. We then head for dry land for a local dinner, before heading back onto the river to witness a natural pyrotechnic show the fireflies from the comfort of our boat on the river. Friday 5 April: Today we head north for our first round of golf, at the beautiful Nexus Golf Club. Nestled between the hilly jungle and the coastline, it s a great introduction to what the region is all about. The palm lined fairways are flat and open, but watch out for the water We ll be back mid-afternoon, perfect for drinks in the pool before heading down to the Waterfront for sundowners and dinner. Saturday 6 April: Today is spent completely at leisure and there s plenty for you to do today, be it cultural, shopping or active. If scuba diving, snorkeling or kayaking (or even just lazing on the beach) is your thing, why not head out to one of the many islands in Tunku Abdul National Park just off the coast. For the super energetic, Mount Kinabalu poses a formidable challenge and you could leave early this morning for an overnight mountain adventure. With two different route options (one for the fit adventurer, the other better suited for the super fit adrenalin-seeking adventurer), be sure to chat to us about which option to choose. If you do wish to climb the mountain, booking way in advance is essential so please chat to us soon. Sunday 7 April: The Gaya Street Market opens early morning and runs til 1pm. It s just a short 5 minute walk from the hotel and is a great way to start your day, and most definitely worth a visit. While the street is busy during the week, the market is only open on a Sunday and has a variety of shopping bargains and great food. It s the perfect chance to immerse yourself in local life, and pick up some curios and local arts and crafts. If lazy evenings and sundowners on the beach is your thing, head to Tanjung Aru for what many regard as one of the top three sunsets in the world. There s a public beach for those looking for something a little less formal, while the famous bar at the end of the pier is ideal for those fancy cocktails. Monday 8 April: We re back on the course today and head north to Shangri-La s Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club which is bordered by two rivers, and you ll tee-off with stunning views of Mount Kinabalu in the background. Set within 400 acres tropical acres, the course was successfully designed to highlight Sabah s natural beauty as it curves through rivers, native rainforest and wetlands. Tuesday 9 April: Our final round is at the multi-award wining Sutera Harbour Golf Club, on the south side of town next to the marina we left from for the sunset cruise. The 27-hole course lies between the shores of the South China Sea and overlooks several offshore islands while combine nature with clever routing, challenging fairways and greens, as well as strategically placed bunkers. We ll tee-off around noon with the aim to come in in time before sunset so that we can head across to the marina café for sundowners. An ideal way to start your last evening on holiday. Wednesday 10 April: We have most of the day at our disposal perfect for a last minute adventure, some shopping, or even an extra round of golf at one of the nearby courses. After meeting back at the hotel late afternoon, we head to the airport and commence our homeward journey. A short layover at Singapore s Changi Airport, and then it s time for our flight back to South Africa. Clients travelling on a passport of a different nationality should check with their embassy or consulate and must make sure they have all the necessary valid travel and health documents to comply with the requirements of the country they are visiting or travelling through. Clients are advised to travel on one passport for the duration of the tour to ensure compliance with the latest travel regulations. All passports must be valid for at least 6 months after your scheduled date of return home.
