Pratersville Road Exit (DO NOT USE THE MEXICO GRAVEL ROAD EXIT). Turn rigt onto E. Pratersville Road to Nort Oakland Gravel Road. Make a rigt on Nort Oakland Gravel Road. Day Parking If you are just parking for te day, make a left into Gate 3 (at Cottonwoods RV Park). E. Your responsibility in a pack includes: Awareness Be aware of oters around you and make sure tey are aware of you. Communicate be sure to call out on your left wen passing, yell car back wen a car is coming from te back or car up wen a veicle is approacing. Alert oter cyclists to potential road azards: gravel, pot ole, tracks. Be predictable let oters know wen you re slowing or stopping by using te palm of your and towards te rider beind you and by calling out. Rest stop etiquette wen pulling into a rest stop, pull over, dismount and move completely away from te road and rest-stop entrance. Wen exiting, move beyond te rest area and proceed wit caution on te rigt side of te road before merging wit faster cyclists. Keep in mind tat te majority of te rest stops are at private omes of people wo ave generously welcomed us onto teir property. Be courteous Bike MS cyclists are privileged to ride on te roads of mid-missouri. Be courteous and ride no more tan two abreast as te roads are NOT closed to traffic. Heads up Ride wit your ead up. Focus on te road aead of you; not solely on te person in front of you. No safety in numbers Group mentality is not always safe. Expect to stop at all red ligts and stop signs it is te law! Riders must be at te century cut-off on te regular route by 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (mile 51) and by 10:30 a.m. on Sunday (mile 12) in order to finis te century route by te official route closing time (6 p.m.). Cyclists after tese times will be unsupported on te route (no SAG support or rest stops). Lower Mileage Routes Approximately 20 and 40-mile options will be available eac day. A large portion of te route will be sared wit te oter cyclists. Amis Country On Saturday, longer routes will take cyclists troug Amis Country. Please be respectful of teir traditions and customs and do not take pictures of te Amis. Tank you for your consideration. Rest Stops Located every 8 to 12 miles along te routes, rest stops offer: water, sports drinks, snacks, rest rooms, medics and mecanical support. Please be respectful. Stops are eld at local businesses and at private residences. Support & Gear (SAG) Veicles SAG veicles patrol eac route to provide support for cyclists in between rest areas. Flasing te tumbs up sign to oncoming SAG drivers will let tem know you are cycling witout problems; tumbs down signals te SAG to stop and elp. SAG drivers will not be able to transport gear for you unless you ride wit te van or tere is a medical situation. We are not responsible for any items left in SAG veicles. Time Trials Pus yourself on a time trial from te first to second rest stop on te century (100 mile) route eac day. YOU MUST STOP AT THE REST STOP BEFORE ENTERING THE TIME TRIAL. Leave timing cip on your bike bot days. Time trials will be between 8 and 12 miles long. Find your official time online after te ride. about multiple sclerosisi» about te ms society» Movement is all around us, our bodies and minds in constant motion, connecting wit and expressing ourselves to te world. It is so muc of wo we are, it s easy to take movement for granted. Multiple sclerosis stops people from moving. MS is a cronic, often disabling disease tat attacks te central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). MS is tougt to be an autoimmune disease. Te body s own defense system attacks myelin, te fatty substance tat surrounds and protects te nerve fibers of te brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord. Wen any part of te myelin seat or nerve fiber is damaged or destroyed, nerve impulses traveling to and from te brain are distorted or interrupted, causing a wide range of symptoms. MS is an unpredictable disease. Symptoms vary greatly from person to person and vary over time in te same person. Symptoms may be mild, suc as numbness in te limbs, or severe, suc as paralysis or loss of vision. Some people experience muscle weakness, poor balance, poor coordination, muscle tigtness, spasticity or tremors. Problems wit bladder, bowel or sexual function are common and fatigue is a major concern for many. Wile a cure for MS as not yet been discovered, advances in researc ave yielded treatments. Founded in 1946, te National Multiple Sclerosis Society as a 50-state network of capters.
