9.3.1 When considering results from Nominated Competitions, the DSP will take into account a range of factors which include, but are not limited to: - the level of the competition at which the result was obtained - the consistency of performance - an improving trend in performance - more recent results 9.3.2 The DSP will consult with the High Performance Director, the Chef d Equipe, the National Training Adviser and the Team Veterinarian when considering general criteria for WEG 2018 selection. 10. DISCRETIONARY CONSIDERATIONS Combinations to be selected for the WEG 2018 Team will be identified by the DSP in its sole and absolute discretion to achieve the best possible result at WEG 2018. Without in any way limiting the discretion of the DSP, the DSP will consider the following factors: 10.1 The DSP has the discretion to place a greater emphasis on one or more of the considerations when selecting combinations for WEG 2018. 10.2 These discretionary considerations apply to the selection of combinations for the WEG 2018 Team, and to any substitutions that may be required. 10.3 The ability of the combination to compete successfully at a high level International competition. Consideration will be given to: - demonstrated experience and/or success at International events - the ability or potential of the combination to perform under the stress and pressure of an event such as the World Equestrian Games - the ability of the athlete to prepare their horse for a major campaign - the ability of the athlete to contribute to an effective and harmonious team including the demeanour of the athlete as a representative of Australian Dressage and equestrian sport generally - the potential of the combination to advance the status of the sport of dressage in Australia - the advice of the High Performance Director, the Chef d Equipe, the National Training Adviser and the Team Veterinarians, particularly concerning the fitness of the combination to perform at the required level. 10.4 Riders are expected to, in the interests of promoting Australia s reputation at International shows, to compete in the Grand Prix Special and / or the Grand Prix Freestyle classes at the shows they attend as per Article 422.2.9. WEG 2018 Dressage Selection Policy: Updated December 2017. 5

11. EXTRAORDINARY FACTORS In considering the performances of athletes and horses at events, training camps or other activities required under this policy, the DSP may in their discretion give weight to extraordinary factors applying to that athlete and/or horse. 11.1 Athletes unable to compete at events, trials, training camps or other attendances required under this policy must advise the High Performance Director, Chef d Equipe and National Training Adviser of this fact, and the reasons, in writing, before the commencement of the activity or as soon as practicable. Notwithstanding the above, and given that athletes have the option to attend several events, three (3) performances at the Nominated Events must be achieved. 11.2 In the case of injury or illness, the athlete may be required to undergo a medical examination by a doctor or doctors nominated by EA. 11.3 In the case of bereavement, equipment failure, travel delays, quarantine factors or other extraordinary factors, the DSP will make a decision on an individual basis. 12. POST SELECTION SUBSTITUTIONS If, after Team selection for WEG 2018, the horse sustains an injury and/or exacerbates an earlier injury and/or shows symptoms of an illness at any time up to the point of competition, the horse will be subject to an assessment of their current form and ability to compete at the expected level. This assessment will be conducted by the DSP, in consultation with the High Performance Director, the Chef d Equipe and National Training Adviser in consultation with the Team Veterinarian. After the assessment has been carried out a decision will be made by the DSP. Any replacement must be made in accordance with this Selection Policy. 13. VARIATION, AMENDMENT OR SUPPLEMENTATION OF THIS POLICY This policy may be varied, amended or supplemented by the DSP from time to time, including where matters arise for which there is no explicit provision in the criteria. Any variation, amendment or supplement, must be in writing. The DSP will endeavour to give as much notice as possible to all persons affected by any variation, amendment or supplement to the Policy.
