The Cubs have now won 12 of their last 13 games on the road dating to July 2, outscoring the opposition 76-33 in this span, a +43 run differential. The Cubs have also allowed three runs or less in each of their last 11 games on the road, which Elias reports as the longest such road streak by any team in the majors this season it s the longest single-season streak by any team since Joe Maddon s Tampa Bay Rays allowed three runs or less in 19-straight road games from July 4-August 22, 2014. HE S JUST THE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is the reigning National League Player of the Week after batting.455 (10-for-22) with a league leading five homers, 13 RBI and 1.660 OPS in six games last week, including a pair of multi-homer efforts last Thursday vs. Arizona and Sunday vs. Washington. Contreras is batting.325 (27-for-83) with 10 homers and 29 RBI in 21 games since the All-Star Break he leads the majors in RBI and is one behind Giancarlo Stanton s 11 blasts for most homers since the Break. Contreras has hit 21 home runs this season, the most for any N.L. catcher and tied with Kansas City s Salvador Perez for most by any major league catcher this season. Contreras is only the second Cubs catcher in the last 20 seasons to reach 20 homers, joining Geovany Soto (23 in 2008) the last Cubs catcher to hit more than 23 homers was Rick Wilkins with 30 homers in 1993. Contreras Sunday reached 33 career home runs in his 175th game, the most-ever by a native of Venezuela through 175 games Miguel Cabrera previously had the most with 32 homers through 175 games. Contreras has batted fourth consistently since the All-Star Break overall this season in 29 games from the No. 4 hole, Contreras has hit.315 (35-for-111) with five doubles, 13 homers, 35 RBI and a 1.094 OPS he is averaging one home run per 8.54 at bats in the four hole, the best ratio in the majors Cody Bellinger is second with one home run per 11.32 at bats in the four hole. WHAT LIES AHEAD: Of the 51 games remaining for the Cubs this season, 39 are against teams currently owning a record of.500 or below, or 76 percent of them however, these three games in San Francisco represent the lone outliers during a 12-of-15-game stretch against clubs that are above.500 from July 28-August 13 the Cubs are 4-5 in the first nine of those games. The Cubs have 26 games remaining at home and 25 games left on the road Chicago has more home games remaining than any other team in the N.L. Central. The Cubs also see 31 of their final 51 games come against N.L. Central division foes, or 61 percent of them the Cubs are 26-19 against their own division, a.578 winning percentage, by far the best record of any team within the division the Reds are next closest with a 22-20 mark within the Central, while the Pirates are 21-21, the Brewers are 23-24 and the Cardinals are 20-28. SOLID BAT, SOLID GLOVE: Anthony Rizzo last week hit his 25th homer of the season to become just the third Cubs left-handed hitter to record four 25-homer campaigns he joins Billy Williams (10 times from 1961-72) and Bill Nicholson (five times between 1940-47), and his four consecutive 25-homer campaigns are second-longest behind Williams six-straight 25-homer seasons from 1963-68). Rizzo enters today with a career-high 91-game errorless streak at first base dating to April 24 that s the longest errorless streak by a Cubs first baseman in 25 years since Mark Grace went 102-straight games without an error at first during the 1992 campaign. CLOSING TIME: With his save last night, Cubs closer Wade Davis has extended his single-season franchise record for consecutive save chances converted, as he s been successful in his first 24 opportunities this year that surpasses Flash Gordon in 2001, Ryan Dempster in 2005 and Carlos Marmol in 2012, all of whom had 19-straight successful save chances in a single campaign. The franchise mark for consecutive save chances converted is held by Dempster (26 straight in the 2005-06 seasons).
