Our amateur events continue to challenge the future champions of the game, with our course record set by Ricky Fowler during his journey to become a pro. Originally designed in 1923 by Willie Park Jr., the North consistently lives up to its Top 100 course ranking, year after year. Set within a varying landscape elevation and guarded by mature trees, this track delivers the ability to hold up to the challenging standards of a US Open, a PGA Championship or any other level of contest. The course takes advantage of the terrain, providing some elevated tee boxes, with other drives being keenly challenged by tight tree lines. The fairways are designed to offer the player wide enough landing areas to create the right approach angles for the shot into the greens. But between its length and deep bunker placements, an errant shot will quickly add to the complexities of play. As you prepare your shot into the green, the golfer will find all greens to be carefully guarded by bunkers, with a fair number of elevated greens that will add to the challenge of club choice. Greens are fast and pure, while providing a fair amount of movement that calls for steady putter play. Regardless of the length of putt, the golfer must decide the levels of risks taken by the putter stroke. North The North carries legends, challenges everyday play and delivers new memories with every stroke of play. South Tom Benelow designed this unique course in 1915, with careful planning used in utilizing the unique elevations that aren t normally afforded to Midwest courses. Renovated by winning architect Steve Smyers in 2008, the South was honored as a finalist in Golf Magazine s renovation of the year. Quite often referred to as the member s course, daily play delivers endless challenging shots surrounded by beautiful vistas. Like sister course to the north, the South offers welcoming fairways that are wide enough to accommodate a well-struck tee shot. Though fairway bunkers do come into play, they are not the norm on every hole; quite often it is the elevation and natural terrain that challenges the next stroke of play. Though considered the more forgiving of the courses, you ll find every shot takes careful planning and club choice throughout the entire round. The South offers a fair amount of water threats for half of the holes. All the greens are carefully guarded by bunkers, with many greens elevated, and yet another fair number of greens with false fronts. This sets up the golfer needing to make more critical adjustments to club selection as the round unfolds. The greens can be fast, always with the promise of movement; carefully luring the player to settle for a safe lag or to risk a possible three putt. Every round played on the South brings new discoveries, different approach shots and a desire to take on the challenge another day. Golf Amenities for improving your game Olympia s championship quality practice facilities are set over 24 acres and allow players the ability to practice their skills in every aspect of the game. Our 4-acre short game facility includes separate areas for pitching, sand play and large putting areas. Several other putting practice areas are located near their perspective first holes and our double teed 400-yard driving range allows for hitting a variety of target greens. Our Director of Golf Instruction, E. A. Tischler, is ranked as one of the Top 50 instructors in the country by Golf Digest. By using a combination of advanced technologies and traditional teaching methods, his unique instruction is able to help advance player s games at all levels. In addition, our award-winning Pro Shop and staff provide additional support through instruction and offer a great selection of golf wear, equipment and luxury based items. The OFCC Tennis Program is geared for all levels of participation. Six Har-Tru courts make our facility one of the most comfortable facilities to play. The court surface helps make conditions less severe, a bit cooler and much more comfortable for the players. celebrating a tradition of Champion Play Olympia Fields Country Club is an enduring monument to the Golden Age of American golf, a storied era when leading industrialists teamed with legendary architects to develop courses that would have become known as America s crown jewels of golf. As bigger and better became the challenge as courses were developed across the country, Olympia s founders conceived their vision in 1914 with putting their sights on building The world s largest golf club. Today Olympia offers championship level play on both the North and the South course, with both courses scoring high marks within all the industry standard rankings. Attracting PGA play has become a standard for the club, with talks for future tournaments well on their way. The feat was four eighteen hole golf courses located just south of Chicago that would become a destination for champion level golf. Reached easily by train or car, the development was to accommodate golf for the original 1,200 members, while also providing club activities that would serve as a weekend destination. The championship caliber level of golf was quickly recognized, with early events including the Western Open in 1920, the PGA Championship in 1925 and the U.S. Open in 1928. Even in the aftermath of the Great Depression when Olympia would condense to two courses, the desire and history of champion play has stayed the course. becoming a National Member National Membership at Olympia Fields Country Club is by invitation only. Invitations are extended to prospective members who have secured two current OFCC members as sponsors for their membership. In cases when a national member candidate doesn t have OFCC member relationships, the Membership Director can facilitate introductions to current members that are willing to be part of the vetting process. After application, all incoming members must have Board of Governors approval to become a member. National I Membership Perimeters A National I Member must reside between 75 and 249 miles from Olympia Fields Country Club, is entitled to 24 rounds of golf per year and may host guests in accordance with club Rules and Regulations. National I Members have full access to the entire club facility.
