POLICY NAME: WANL Coach Selection Policy VERSION: 1.0 EFFECTIVE: 1 October 2018 1 Policy Objective East Freo Sharks Netball selects and manages teams in the WA Netball League Competition. Our licence comprises of: Open Squad 20 & Under Team The program objectives are to select coaches, squads and teams, as determined by the East Freo Sharks Netball which closely aligns with the talent identification process with Netball WA and Netball Australia s National Athlete Pathways and provides the best opportunity for success in the WA Netball League Competition. 2 Policy Definitions ANL (ANL) the open-age competition conducted by Netball Australia which includes teams from all states and territories in Australia. EFSN is East Freo Sharks Netball. Netball Australia means the national entity which is a member of and is recognized by the International Federation of Netball Association as the entity governing Netball in Australia. Selection Panel East Freo Sharks Netball Selection Panel is appointed to select Open Squad and 20 & Under Coaching staff. Team/s may refer to the squad or teams at any age group. Administrator is a East Freo Sharks Netball employee/volunteer responsible for the coordination and administration of the Club. All other terms have their ordinary meaning. 3 Policy Procedures 3.1 Selection Panel The Selection Panel shall recommend appointments to the EFSN Board for ratification. 3.1.1 The Selection Panel reserves the right to co opt suitably qualified coaches where appropriate. 3.1.2 Appointment Term 3.1.3 The Appointment term for each respective Coach is as follows: Open/20U Coach 1year term with an option to extend Assistant Coach 1year term with an option to extend Apprentice Coach 1year term with an option to extend (May be across different teams) 3.1.4 Continuation of coaching terms or exercising of options is subject to the completion of a satisfactory post program review. 3.2 Applications and Selection Process 3.2.1 Applications for all WANL Coach positions shall be called for at a date determined by the EFSN Board 3.2.2 Applications are to be sent to the EFSN President. All applications must detail Applicant s qualifications, skills and experience as per the application form. The applicants are to be shortlisted by the Selection Panel in line with the selection criteria as determined by the EFSN Board. 3.2.3 All shortlisted applicants are to be interviewed and referees contacted to determine their suitability except in the case of the continuation of their current tenure upon which reappointment will be subject to a satisfactory annual performance review. 3.2.4 Applicants will be advised of the outcome of the selection process by the EFSN Board. 3.2.5 The Selection Panel shall be under no obligation to provide reasons for its selection decisions although it may elect to do so at its discretion. 3.2.6 EFSN will communicate the names of the all Coaches for each WANL Team to its membership via any means suitable. 3.3 Selection Criteria 3.3.1 Open (Head) Coach Current Netball WA membership, WWC and Police clearance; Have a current WA drivers licence and own car; Complete a medical form; Netball Australia Advanced Coaching Accreditation or working toward same; Suitability in terms of behaviour, ethics and attitude to represent the EFSN Strong and effective leadership skills, ability to unite and lead the WANL coaching and management team. Outstanding organisational skills, excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Ability to create, plan, communicate and deliver a best practice high performance program collaboratively. Experience as a WANL Coach and/or State coach or equivalent in the previous 5 years; Ability to meet duties, attendance and report requirements as per this policy; Good appreciation and understanding of the selection of age group netballers and Netball WA development pathway. Good Understanding of Player development (all aspects including physical, social and emotional); Ability to operate effectively as a member of a small team; Commitment to advocacy of EFSN and Netball WA. 3.3.2 20 Under Coach Current Netball WA registration, WWC and Police clearance; Have a current WA drivers licence and own car; Complete a medical form; Netball Australia Advanced Coaching Accreditation or working toward same; Suitability in terms of behaviour, ethics and attitude to represent the EFSN Strong and effective leadership skills; Outstanding organisational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Experience as a WANL Coach and/or Regional Academy coach Cadet coach and Association Championship Coach; Ability to meet duties, attendance and report requirements as per this policy; Good appreciation and understanding of the selection of age group netballers and Netball WA development pathway. Good Understanding of Player development (all aspects including physical, social and emotional); Ability to operate effectively as a member of a small team; Commitment to advocacy of EFSN and Netball WA. 3.3.3 Assistant Coach Current Netball WA registration, WWC and Police clearance; Have a current WA drivers licence and own car; Complete a medical form; Netball Australia Intermediate Coaching Accreditation or working toward same; Suitability in terms of behaviour, ethics and attitude to represent the EFSN Strong and effective leadership skills; Outstanding organisational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Experience as a WANL Coach and/or Regional Academy/Metro Open coach and/or Association Championships coach Ability to meet duties, attendance and report requirements as per this policy; Good Understanding of Player development (all aspects including physical, social and emotional) and the Netball WA development pathway: Ability to operate effectively as a member of a small team; Commitment to advocacy of EFSN and Netball WA. 3.3.4 Apprentice Coach Current Netball WA registration, WWC and Police clearance; Have a current WA drivers licence and own car; Complete a medical form; Netball Australia Development Coaching Accreditation or working toward same; Suitability in terms of behaviour, ethics and attitude to represent the EFSN Strong and effective leadership skills; Outstanding organisational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Experience as a Regional Academy or Cadet coach or Association Championship Coach Ability to meet duties, attendance and report requirements as per this policy; Good appreciation and understanding of the Netball WA development pathway. Good Understanding of Player development (all aspects including physical, social and emotional); Ability to operate effectively as a member of a small team; Enthusiasm for development of coaching skills in a high performance competition; Commitment to advocacy of EFSN and Netball WA. 3.4 Duties Open (Head) Coach Encourage, mentor and unite all EFSN WANL coaches, managers and any other personnel as appropriate; Co-ordinate a review of EFSN WANL Athlete Selection Policy in conjuction with 20U Coach and update during season planning phase. Identify strengths and weaknesses and plan accordingly. Assist as a member of the WANL Team Selection Panel and ensure the adherence to the selection policy process in appointment of support team, including all documentation; In consultation with the High Performance Team and the Assistant Coach, devise a program for player development and team preparation; With the assistance of the Assistant Coach, Team Manager, Strength and Conditioning staff, Physiotherapist and other officials, prepare and coach the Open Team for the WANL Season, organize and run the pre season program and any other events as required by the EFSN Board; Devise and promote development and competition programs that run through all EFSN WANL teams; Liaise with the Team Manager and Adminstrator regarding training requirements and all logistics associated with the WANL; Engage specialist coaches and sports professionals when not available through FNA or EFFC. A budget must be submitted to the EFSN Board prior to pre-season starting, for approval; Attend meetings and table reports as determined by EFSN Board; East Freo Sharks Team Selection Policy Page 3 of 5
20U Coach Abide by, promote and actively enforce Netball Australia s and Netball WA s and EFSN s policies and procedures; Actively develop and promote EFSN athletes along the Netball WA Development pathway including underpinning programs to WANL; Maintain communication regarding WANL Program with parents and/or significant others; Support and participate in any sponsorship or promotional agreements or arrangements entered into by EFSN and promote sponsor products in accordance with any sponsorship Notify and obtain EFSN Board approval prior to undertaking any other coaching or consulting position Promote and implement EFSN values and be an advocate for the Club; Sit as a member of the WANL Team Selection 20U Panel and ensure the adherence to the selection policy process, including all documentation; In consultation with the High Performance Board Member and the Assistant Coach, devise a program for player development and team preparation; With the assistance of the Assistant Coach, Team Manager, Strength and Conditioning staff, Physiotherapist and other officials, prepare and coach the 20U Team for the WANL Season; Develop, encourage and mentor assistant and apprentice coaches; Liaise with the Team Manager and Administrator regarding training requirements and all logistics associated with the WANL; Attend meetings and table reports as determined by Head Coach and / or EFSN Board; Abide by, promote and actively enforce Netball Australia s and Netball WA s and EFSN s policies and procedures. Actively develop and promote EFSN athletes along the Netball WA Development pathway including underpinning programs to WANL; Maintain communication regarding WANL Program with parents and/or significant others. Abide by, promote and actively enforce EFSN s, Netball Australia s and Netball WA s policies and procedures. In consultation with the Coach, carry out duties as directed and agreed. Support and participate in any sponsorship or promotional agreements or arrangements entered into by EFSN and promote sponsor products in accordance with any sponsorship Notify and obtain EFSN Board approval prior to undertaking any other coaching or consulting position Promote and implement EFSN values and be an advocate for the Club; 3.4.1 Attendance Minimum attendance required as follows: Attend meetings as determined by EFSN Board and / or Netball WA East Freo Sharks Team Selection Policy Page 4 of 5
All Selection Trials All Team Training Sessions All Team Education sessions All WANL Games Pre season, camp and post season events as determined by the Coaching team and EFSN Board Professional development opportunities as provided by EFSN or Netball WA from time to time External training programs and fundraisers 3.5 Reports WANL Coaches will be required to submit the following reports no later than three (3) weeks following the completion of the WANL: 3.5.1 Open Coach and 20U s Coach Reports: Program Review including squad program, selection process, team preparation, organisation, administration, communication, performance of Assistant, Apprentice Coaches, Team Manager and if applicable Apprentice Manager and recommendations. 3.6 Honorariums Honorariums will be based on the NWA recommendations and negotiated at the time of appointment, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Renumeration levels will be reviewed on an annual basis. 3.7 Changes to This Policy This policy may be cancelled, amended or supplemented by EFSN as and when it sees fit. Any variation or amendment will be given in writing by the Administration Officer on behalf of EFSN.
