BLUEGRASS SAMS CHAPTER II NEWSLETTER APRIL 2012 On April 19 th 22 nd, 2012, the Bluegrass Sams Chapter 2 gathered at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY. Members attending the first campout for year 2012 were: Larry and Amy Downey, Bob and Linda Campbell, Charlotte Hunt and Ann Spurlock, Bud and Lucy Sears, Tony and Sue Sims, Barry and Lynn Bobst, Paul and Tiny Bowen, Al and Ann Kelty, and Gary and Bonnie Chastain attended the official meeting on Saturday morning after driving 18 hour from Florida. Special guests attending the campout were: Bill (Tommy) and Linda Bell, Ron and Mindy Fiala, Mitchell and Sandy Smith. Many of the members arrived one to several days earlier than April 19 th to enjoy the first campout of the year during the beautiful spring weather Lexington was enjoying in mid April. The first campout is always close to home for an opportunity to shake down the rigs after the winter months and get them ready for the camping season. There were only two misfortunes this year: the Kelty s had a small flood in the bathroom area of the camper when a pin whole leak on the toilet valve fitting wasn t discovered immediately. Our guests Mitchell and Sandy
Smith also had a leak on their toilet valve fitting which was repaired the next day. Other than pride, neither rig had damage from the leaks. Thursday and Friday were beautiful spring days with the temperatures in the 60-70 degree range. Everyone enjoyed the weather until Saturday morning. Over night the temperatures dropped into the 40 s and rained most of the night. Saturday daytime temperatures didn t change much, mid to high forties and the rained stopped before lunch. From there on the temperatures remained in the 40 s through Sunday morning. It was a cold and damp weekend! Late Friday afternoon most of the group went out to eat at the Golden Corral for dinner in Georgetown. Saturday morning there was pot luck breakfast followed by the monthly meeting. The breakfast was AMAZING with more than enough food for everyone. Prior to the campout Paul called Larry to asked if he would cook some catfish Saturday night if he brought the fish to the campout. Larry asked how much catfish he had, and Paul said there was enough for the whole group. So Larry said he would be glad to cook the catfish and cook
something else for those that didn t want to eat catfish. So late Saturday evening the group had another large meal that was nothing but ASTONISHING! Two great meals in one day! We have some great cooks in our group! Thank to all of you for bringing those fantastic dishes! Saturday afternoon several of the group went to the Regional VA facility to visit with our veterans in the hospital. The people in our group got an opportunity to thank each of the vets for their service and give them a small gift.
On Saturday afternoon several of the members huddled in the garage (Larry s tent where most of us stayed somewhat warm during the cold day) and made bolo s for the Kentucky Good Sam Samboree in June. They also were discussing other things the group could do for the fall Samboree. Everyone enjoyed visiting with each other and having campfires each night where smores were made. It was a great weekend to be with friends even though the weather wasn t so pleasant.
