Lower School Newsletter Summer Term Week 9 19 th June 2015 www.colstons.bristol.sch.uk Nursery Class Assembly What an impressive assembly all the Nursery children performed last week. They have been learning all about teddy bears and they thought it would be lovely to show their dramatisation of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It proved to be a real treat for the rest of the school and everyone loved it when the three bears were trying to work out what had happened to their delicious porridge, comfy chair and tidy bed! As a further treat the children showed us their phonics actions that accompanied a story. All the children performed wonderfully well and thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

Y6 Play Dream On I hope you enjoy viewing these additional photos of the Y6 production of Dream On. Many thanks to Mr Watts for taking these and I m pleased that copies and DVDs are available to order via the office. Science Pulleys and Levers In Science Jonny and Katie enjoyed making models of pulleys; Jonny said that he loved playing with Lego and it was great to experiment with pulleys. Here are some further constructions from our young scientists, including Leo's impressive block and tackle pulley system.

Sports Reports U9 Cricket v QEH It was lovely to see all the boys from Y3 and Y4 playing cricket against QEH on Monday. All the boys took part in close matches and it was evident that there has been a great deal of progress throughout the term. There is still much practice required of the essential skills: batting, bowling, catching and throwing, but it is so good to see the boys enjoying playing. The whole occasion was rounded off beautifully with a picnic style match tea on the grass, which was a real treat for everyone. Well done to the Y3 and Y4 boys for all your effort on a fun afternoon. U9A Rounders v BGS won 11 8½ This was a very good final match from the girls. A special mention needs to go to Isobel for some great fielding and batting, and also to Paige for some really accurate throwing as backstop. A good team performance. Well done! U9B Rounders v BGS won 9½ - 3½ Some excellent fielding all round, showing a great team effort. They caught the opposition out and stumped effectively; Colston s throwing and catching was brilliant, with a particular mention for Ellie H on first post, whose quick thinking picked up the ball and quickly passed it to 2 nd post, stumping a player out and preventing a half rounder. The U8 team are starting to hit the ball consistently and are therefore able to earn half and full rounders. Well done.

U9C Rounders v BGS lost 12-14½ This was a really close game and the girls enjoyed having the chance to hit off a batting tee. It was very pleasing to see how much the girls have improved. Nishi and Martha did some particularly good fielding, getting lots of BGS out at second post and preventing lots of half rounders being scored. A good effort girls! U8A Rounders v Clifton High School won The Y3 girls are becoming an excellent team, showing exceptional fielding skills, preventing many half rounders at 2 nd post and cheering each other on. They also demonstrated good sportsmanship when two players from the opposition joined our team to even out the numbers. They welcomed them, were kind, helpful and encouraged them as one of their own team members. Well done.
