Commodore s Cor- Our wait is just about over! Our (nearly) annual Garlic Fest is coming up in just a few weeks. This has always been a very fun and well attended event, and is shaping up to be more of the same this year. That being said, don't forget to contact the marina to get your slip reservation and respond to the evite if you haven't already. Also, please remember that the deadline for signing up and paying is March 19th. Payments can either be mailed to the HHYC mailing address, or be made online via the online store at the HHYCSeattle.com website. My thanks to Earl Sommers, Lleslie Perret, and P/C Dane & Terry Fantz for agreeing to host this event again this year. Included this year are two breakfasts, two dinners, a signature drink and games, all for the bargain price of $45 per person! We're also invited to join our friends at KCYC on Friday night for drinks and entertainment....we're often their entertainment... This is generally a quiet time of year where boating is concerned. Many of us have turned our prize possessions over to some boatyard, hoping they won't find anything that results in additional "boat units" being wrestled from our bank accounts! This is a bottom paint year for yours truly, but has resulted in the "opportunity" to epoxy the hull so we can stay afloat for a few more seasons. I've got my fingers crossed that Oliva will be ship shape in time for the Garlic Fest, or our first outing of the season will be courtesy of the Washington State Ferry System. This is also a good time to take an inventory of our safety equipment. Fire extinguishers and life jacket auto-inflate mechanisms are on my current list. Garfield High School has a mixed elective class that is focusing on sailing and boating safety awareness this year. One of the students, Theo Young, made contact with me a couple of weeks ago to suggest sharing some information they found that may be useful to us. The article is geared toward beginning sailors, but this type of information is often worth a look. It starts with the health benefits, which is the excuse I'm going to start using with my financial planner! Take a look at the site here: https://www.dietspotlight.com/ sailboating-safety-guide-beginningboaters/ P/C Dennis Kroeger has suggested we replace the club s aging banner. Keli suggested we have a few designs to choose from, so I encourage any of you artistic individuals to create and share your design with us at the next board meeting. Can t make it, feel free to send your design to me by March 12 and I will share your idea with the board. Congratulations to P/C Mary & Brian Scott for winning the first HHYC board meeting door prize! If you don't know what that was, I'll encourage you to come to the next board meeting to see for yourself. Congratulations also go out to Lleslie Perret. The meeting was a day before Valentine's day, and Lleslie won a small box of See's chocolates. She quickly shared it with the rest of the ladies (and V/C Larry) so it disappeared pretty 2 quickly! Enough rambling from me. I hope to see you at the next meeting on March 13, or at the Kingston Garlic Fest on March 23! Be safe out there! Victor Portolese Commodore Hidden Harbor Yacht Club
