Margie Shortt Dance Studio Fall 2018 Welcome to the pride of Gulf Breeze; the Margie Shortt Dance Studio. Through these doors walk the dancinest feet in town. The Margie Shortt Dance Studio has been in Gulf Breeze since 1973. There is no greater gift that you can give your child but love and the capability to dance. Our graded dance system guarantees the steady progress of each student, as well as each class. Our professional dance studio is equipped with a wooden spring floating floor, ballet barres on three sides of the room and the fourth side has floor to ceiling mirrors. Dancers start learning the basic techniques of dance, rhythm, proper alignment of one s own body, music appreciation, self-confidence, friendship, grace, and dance terminology. After 40 weeks of dance training and incorporating all of the above, the dancer participates in a gala event called the dance production. A dancer must be 2 ½ years old before Sept. 1, 2018 in order to enroll in the 2018 2019 dance season. Margie Shortt Dancers start receiving dance training at the age of 2 ½. General classes (Tap, Ballet and Acrobatics) are one-hour class a week for 7 year old dancers and under. Specialty classes are 45 minutes once a week. Specialty classes are one-subject classes, all Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Jazz/Hip Hop, or Acrobatics. All students are placed in classes according to age and ability, not by friends or convenience. Margie has been professionally teaching dance in Michigan, Illinois, and Florida for the past 60 + years. She is certified in: Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Acrobatics, Jazz, Baton, and Hawaiian. Margie is a life time member of Dance Educators of America, Professional Dance Teachers Association, Honorary member of the Pensacola Press Club, Honorary member of the Gulf Breeze & Pensacola J C s, and a member of ASCAP, SESAC, and BMI. Miss Debbie has had dance education since the day she was born. She has modeled, played the piano, drums, attended all Gulf Breeze Schools, and Pensacola Junior College. Debbie has danced in numerous shows such as: The Merry Widow, Carmen, Passion Plays, Pensacola Little Theatre Productions, Teen Board Shows, and was once a member of The Pensacola Civic Ballet Company. She was an assistant choreographer for the Junior Miss Programs, Teen Board shows, has taught special needs children at Oriole Beach Elementary School, and dance at St. Ann s Catholic Church Vacation Bible School. Debbie assisted the late famed tap dancer, Al Gilbert from Hollywood, California. She is certified to instruct Tap, Ballet, Pointe, and Jazz/Hip Hop, and Acrobatic dancing. Miss. Shainna too has been dancing since the day she was born. She attended many Al Gilbert dance seminars as a child and has played the flute as well as the piano. Most of her Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Acrobatics, and Jazz/Hip Hop training came from the Margie Shortt Dance Studio. Shainna attended all Gulf Breeze Schools and Pensacola State College. She was on the Gulf Breeze High School Dance Team all four years and danced for the Ice Pilots as well as being a choreographer. Shainna has coached and started the first ever Dance Team at Catholic High School and was also the Dance Coach for the Gulf Breeze High School Dance Team. Shainna received her certificate for coaching K 12 and was an assistant teacher for the ESE Department at Gulf Breeze High School. A STUDENT S PERSONAL PROGRESS, as well as class performance, is a reflection on proper ATTENDANCE. Class will begin promptly as scheduled. Students are expected to arrive 10 minutes before class in PROPER DANCE ATTIRE. Please inform your dancer to become disciplined for all dance classes. Tights, Leotards and Proper Shoes are required for each class your dancer participates in. Dance shorts, Dance skirts, and Dance pants may be worn over tights and leotards. Dance pants should be worn ONLY for Tap and Jazz. This will help with the proper body placement and training. Change DANCE SHOES in dressing room BEFORE and AFTER dance class. Do not let your dancer wear dance shoes outside to and from the dance studio. LABEL your dance shoes with your FULL name. The Margie Shortt Dance Studio is not responsible for lost articles. UNACCEPTABLE: Large T-shirts, Bare Legs, Shorts only, Tights that have many holes or runs in them, or NO Dance Shoes. You go to church with church clothes and shoes, so you go to dance with dance clothes and dance shoes! LONG OR SHORT HAIR must be secured back into a bun, ponytail, or neatly fastened back to avoid interfering with dance training, absolutely NO hair hanging on your face. Parents are asked to pick students up after class on time. In time, PRACTICING will become easier for the dancer as she/he adjusts to the dance class, music, and teacher. A MISSED LESSON can be made up. Contact our dance studio office for your proper day and time. Please call if your dancer is ill or cannot attend dance class. A missed dance class should not be made up during a visitation week. Make-up lessons may not be used in place of tuition or made up after withdrawing from the Margie Shortt Dance Studio. There are no refunds for classes not taken. Missed classes should be made up within 30 days. CLASS VISITORS may observe dance class the FIRST FULL WEEK IN MARCH. If you have smaller children, please arrange for a sitter. Seating will be on the dance floor mats. There will be no standing or strollers allowed on the dance floor. All visitors are expected to refrain from talking or distracting the dance class. Please turn OFF your cell phone. Videos & photos are encouraged.
