Don Brame and his team have done a great job putting together a Mid-sound Summer Solstice party-event for June 20th. I encourage everyone to participate. Read Don's article for specifics. We have former TTPYC members, Dale and Cynthia Carlton, making a presentation at our September Social meeting about their cruise sailing to Hawaii spending the winter there and then returning. This will be a real interesting presentation. Joy and I are headed off to circumnavigate Vancouver Island in the next few days. We will be traveling with George and Daphne on Tracer. Have a great cruising summer. Dave

Social Committee Janet Sisson, Chair Our social committee is taking a much needed break. We will be back in September with another exciting program. Dale and Cynthia Carlton, former TTPYC members, will give a presentation on their cruise sailing to Hawaii, spending the winter there and then returning at our September Social meeting See you on the water! Swiftsure report: Below came from: http://www.swiftsure.org/results/ The Sun and the Moon literally lined up on Memorial Weekend (according to the BC professor that presented an informative slide show at the skippers meeting) to produce the largest tide swings of the year and therefore the largest tidal currents. This coupled with very light air in the first day produced very challenging conditions on Saturday. Three Tree Point Yacht Club had two boats up to the spring classic Swiftsure. Both boats finished!! Equus was in the #1 class and finished in slightly over 24 hours and was 6 th in class. Les Chevaux Blancs, in the #2 class, finished second in this class! This was no small accomplishment given the #2 class started later in the morning and 8 out of 9 boats in #2 class were unsuccessful getting past Race Passage before the tide turned and produced 6-7 knots of current in the passage. This necessitated a 7-hour anchor in a small bay waiting for the tide to turn so Race Passage could be successfully navigated. At Neah Bay, the turnaround point, in this 101-mile race, Les Chevaux Blancs was 8 out of 9 boats, but at the finish with the wind tide, Les Chevaux Blancs made the correct call to enter the bay from the west, the rest of the fleet approached from the east and were washed away by the tide from the finish line and finished hours later. The boats were escorted out to the start line with sound of bag pipes. Note the bag pipe player on the foredeck (in a kilt).

Boats going to the start line. Cruising News Joan Marie Van Gasken Ahoy the cruise fleet! Here is an updated 2017 TTPYC cruising calendar. We still have room for hosts, so please give me a call or email on the date you would like to host or co host. Hosting is WAY BIG FUN! Let me know if you have questions. Date Cruise Hosts/Co-Hosts June 2-4 Gig Harbor Days Raft Up Ray and Debra Valpey July 4 Tramp Harbor Picnic Before the Fireworks September 1-3 Labor Day Longbranch Raft Up September 15-17 Sleep and Creep, Dockton GIG HARBOR DAYS IN (WHERE ELSE?) GIG HARBOR! JUNE 2-4, FRIDAY TO SUNDAY This celebratory cruise will be a raft-up in Gig Harbor with a weekend chock full of fabulous events in hopping Gig Harbor! *Big Parade (you don t want to miss the library book cart race seriously!) *Lots of food and craft vendors *Live music in the park *and more! (We will have a full list of scheduled events available to you when you arrive) Please let Ray or Debra know before May 30 that you plan to attend so we can start gathering eggs for Saturday s quiches. Sloe Tango will arrive Friday afternoon. Please call us on cell (206-972-0278 or 206-953-5704) when you enter the Bay and we will start waving and get ready to help you raft up. We will be flying our Burgee. Please fly yours, if possible, too?

Please plan to: * Share Happy Hour treats and tall tales aboard Sloe Tango anytime after 6 on Friday, then out to dinner by dinghy or assemble impromptu shared meals on the raft. * Gather on Sloe Tango Saturday at 9AM for a quiche and juice breakfast (or just for coffee and conversation if you are early risers) and then choose to either relax on your boat, take in the parade and related festivities, or???? * Reconvene for Happy Hour, at 6 PM, and share Happy Hour and potluck along with Bananagrams and other silly games or optional returns to town for night life. * Gather for coffee, bagels and juice Sunday morning aboard Sloe Tango and enjoy the Blessing of the Fleet ceremony. We Hope You Will Join Us! Debra and Ray (and Clover) debravalpey@comcast.net or rayvalpey@gmail.com (see above for phone numbers.) Spring Opening Day Cruise Bell Harbor Marina Seattle Cinco de Mayo Cruise 2017 May 5 th -May 7 th We had a good turnout for this year s spring cruise at Bell Harbor Marina. The weather cooperated so we able to enjoy a lot of outdoor activities. Friday evening we had margaritas and Mexican themed appetizers, many thanks to the margarita bartenders Ben Stewart and Chris Jones. The appetizers were wonderful and such a great variety. Tom Spohn dressed the part in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Be sure to check out the TTPYC Facebook page. Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day, many members visited the market and wandered at waterfront. Tim and Caroline McShane even made it to the Seattle Yacht clubs opening day crew races. Way to go Huskies. That evening we continued the Cinco de Mayo celebration with a Mexican theme potluck. I would like to say everyone out did themselves in this department. We had 12 boats participate: Amazing Grace, Tracer, Too Fat to Fly, Dionysus, Yikes II, Viva, Tiburon, Mapril June, Prime Meridian, Day Break, Hobbs, Brigadoon, and our newest members on Salish Mermaid, Duane and Gina Rubash. Ray and Debra Valpey arrived by bus with Clover. We also had our usual furry friends on board. Samantha, Maggie, Molly, Ginger, Clover and of course, our kitty friends, Buddy and Bandit. This was a fun cruise, so I am looking into reserving slips for next year around the same time. Carol Jones, Past Commodore
