Enclosed are the Parade application, Announcer information sheet and the Rules and Regulations. Parade participants will be mailed a permit number and line-up information by mid-november. The Parade Theme this year is Christmas, A Time for Peace. 2017 MCDONOUGH CHRISTMAS PARADE RULES & REGULATIONS Christmas, A Time for Peace Thank you for your participation in the 2017 City of McDonough Christmas Parade. Please read the following Parade Rules & Regulations carefully so that there will be a clear understanding about your entry. We want the Parade to be an enjoyable time for our participants and spectators. RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING ANIMALS Any group/organization with animals must have someone walking behind the animal(s) with a pooper scooper and bag to clean-up after their animal, or the animal must wear a bag or diaper. All applicants are responsible for cleaning up after their animal on both the practice field and along the parade route. There is a limit of eight (8) animals for each entry. CHRISTMAS PARADE GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS Santa Claus is our featured guest each year. No participant may use a live Santa, any representative/replica of Santa or Santa costumes. Children tend to be confused by anything other than the real Santa, who comes at the end of the parade. The Parade is limited to 80 participants in order to keep the Parade within the timeframe allowed. Applications will be accepted on a First Come, First Served Basis. After 80 participants, a waiting list will be compiled in the order as the entries are received. Upon receiving a cancellation, the next entry will be contacted. Please submit any cancellations by Monday, November 6, 2017. Any cancellation after this date may cause an entry to be ineligible to participate in the following year s parade. The theme for 2017 is Christmas, A Time for Peace. Participants are encouraged to decorate their float, vehicle or animal(s) to coincide with this theme. The Permit Number will indicate your place in the Parade and must be displayed on your float/car/truck/bicycle or animal. Any float/car/truck/bicycle or animal that does not have their Permit Number displayed will not be allowed to participate in the Parade. Parade participants will line-up at the Henry County High School Parking Lot and the former McDonough Elementary School Parking Lot (now Excel/Impact Academy). Henry County High School is located at 401 East Tomlinson Street. Excel/Impact Academy is across the street. Participants may begin lining up at 3:30 PM. Only vehicles used in the Parade will be allowed in the parking lots. The judging of the floats will begin at 4:30 PM. Any float not ready at 4:30 PM will not be considered in the judging process. Prizes will be awarded for the best floats (1 st Place - $100.00 and 2 nd Place - $50.00). The winners will be invited to the December 11, 2017 City Council Meeting to be recognized. The meeting begins at 6:00 PM at City Hall. 2
Jumping on and off the vehicles/floats and/or throwing candy, confetti or any other items during the Parade by ANY Parade participant is strictly prohibited. If you wish to hand out materials, you may do so by walking along the sidewalk. Only licensed drivers are authorized to operate motorized vehicles participating in the Parade. No exceptions. Any floats or vehicles tall enough to touch the power lines or traffic lights are prohibited. No eighteen-wheeler tractor trailer trucks are allowed in the Parade. Any bicycle driver and passenger must wear a bicycle helmet while participating in the Parade. Children eight (8) and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Stopping during the Parade to perform is not allowed. If your group sings, dances, cheers, plays instruments, etc., you are certainly encouraged to do so as the Parade moves along, but should not stop solely for the purpose of performing. Stopping to perform may jeopardize your opportunity to participate in the 2018 Parade. All applications must be signed and dated with complete contact information listed. If an application is not signed, the application will not be accepted and there will be no notifications from the parade committee. **PARTICIPANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONFIRMING RECEIPT OF YOUR APPLICATION** If a participant lists a legible email address, an email will be sent advising that the application was received; otherwise it is the participant s responsibility to confirm with a Parade Committee member that the application was received.
