If passed, the rule would go into effect immediately through July 31, 2014 (sunset). After that, recreational anglers will be allowed 5 fish per person, with one fish to be 24 inches or greater. Commercial restrictions are also under consideration, as they have already caught 85% of their quota. As an advisory committee, all FMAC proposals must go through a commission meeting and public hearing in order to become "law". The next meeting before the hearing is March 11 (see agenda at right). Anglers with opinions on this matter should attend this meeting and consider attending the public hearing (date TBA at the meeting). Events March 6: Club Meeting Speaker Charlie Bruggemann. He is the author of the book The Freshwater Fishing Guide To Virginia Beach. He has a website and blog, and has picked up a following among bass and kayak fisherman in the area. He has great specific information about freshwater in all areas of southern Virginia Beach. March 8: Great Bridge Fishing Flea Market Come out and shop the flea market for gently used or new fishing gear. The VBAC table will be staffed by Preston Mangum. You can even sell your gear on our table for a small fee (10% selling price). Bring whatever you want to sell to the club meeting. March 8-9: Bass Pro Shops Spring Classic VBAC has been invited to participate and we will have a booth there to promote our many Club activities. Volunteers are needed to staff the table. Hours are 10A - 5PM. I have broken up the time slots to 10AM - 2PM and 2PM to 5PM. This an opportunity for you to help the club and fulfill the participation requirement. BassPro also gives the participants a discount coupon to use towards items in the store during the Spring Classic. Contact Jerry Hughes at jandmahughes@cox.net or call me at 567-8728. March 11: VMRC Speckled Trout Meeting (see page one) March 15: CLUB BANQUET The food is fabulous, the raffles are fun, and the company is outstanding. By Robbie Parks Time to draw names for the 2014 fall surf-fishing teams! You must have your dues paid and have participated in at least one activity to support the club in 2013 to be eligible for the drawing. The Ocracoke team members need to pay $60.00 at the March meeting with the balance of $116 due at the April meeting. I checked in the Island Free Press and the puppy drum are running between Ocracoke and Hatteras. If you get a chance dress warm and go give them a try. Tight Lines! 2

The Club is looking for colorful, scenic pictures similar to those used in our 2014 calendar for our 2015 calendar. They should be submitted to Bob Burstein at rburstein2747@msn.com and Pete Federico at Petefeds@gmail.com. The deadline for these pictures is April 1st. Pete will then publish a collage of all the submitted pictures collected and the club members will vote on which ones are to be used by May 15th. Pictures submitted by members for the calendar will also be included in our year-long best picture competition. The April 1st deadline only applies for consideration for calendar inclusion, you can still submit pictures after that date for the club s best picture competition. Please patronize the businesses pictured here, as they supported our first club calendar by purchasing ads. Make sure you use a calendar coupon or mention the Angler s Club so they realize the value of their ads and hopefully participate again for our 2015 calendar. 3

The website for the latest in nautical charting information is www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov. This is your one stop shop for viewing nautical charts online, downloading charts in various formats including as a pdf file (all for free). For those who need paper charts that meet carriage requirements can find contact info for Print on Demand vendors. These vendors can print charts within 24 hrs of your order using proper paper, ink etc. Future editions of nautical charts of the Intracoastal Waterway will be updated to include an improved magenta line that has historically aided navigation down the East Coast and around the Gulf Coast. Additionally, Coast Survey will change the magenta line s function, from the perceived recommended route established more than a hundred years ago, to an advisory directional guide that helps prevent boaters from going astray in the maze of channels that comprise the route. VBAC MISSION & OBJECTIVES The purpose of the Virginia Beach Anglers Club is to encourage sport fishing, both freshwater and saltwater, while supporting prudent governmental and other policies that promote the preservation, conservation and ecology of all marine life. Our objectives are to: Monitor legislative and regulatory activities relating to management of local and regional fisheries and participating actively, where appropriate, to assure the adoption of sound management policy and practices that best serve the interests of VBAC members. Promote interest and participation in recreational angling by conducting programs and activities that encourage sport fishing. Educate members and others in the techniques of sport fishing to enhance their enjoyment of the sport. Conduct social activities that create a wholesome climate for deriving the maximum pleasure from sport fishing by members, their families and guests. Plan and conduct fundraising activities to provide the revenues needed to support these objectives.
