Kinette Fall Leadership Conference Minutes October 19, 2013 Edmonton, AB Call to Order- 8:30 am by Governor Jacquie Mvula Opening Ceremonies O Canada lead by Ft Edmonton Kin(ettes) Kinette Song lead by Calgary Moment of Silence for Departed Kin Address to the Chair Governor Jacquie, Family of Kin, I am GROOV, BAB! Host Club Welcome LeAnne Christensen and Susan Dickson, FLC Co-Chairs. Welcome to the wonderful city of Edmonton, and we are still the City of Champions Review of safety precautions; gentle reminder to ensure a complaint free weekend; respectful of other guests and property. There will be many ways to win throughout the day - VIP table, 50/50, door prizes and silent auction items- Amazing race starts at 1:00 pm sharp. Teams can pick up wristbands at noon. Cocktails at 6:30 for the evening festivities. Dinner will be followed by the Groovy Talent show and fun and fellowship. First timers requested to pass in cards from last night s social at registration desk. Presenters- there is a Gong like in the gong show if you hear the gong you will have 30 seconds to wrap up your presentation. This will allow for the meeting to move smoothly and in a timely manner so there is a time for the amazing race. Prizes awarded from meet and greet: Wendy Neufeld, Laura Mau Rules given around stealing regalia. Decorations and hotel things cannot be taken. Governor s Remarks Governor Jacquie addressed the delegates: On behalf of the makin LOVE team welcome to FLC. Thank you to the Edmonton for their work in putting together the event. In order for all members to feel comfortable in participating in the meeting- all participants must stand and give their name and club in order to make a motion. Deputy Governors are sitting with the clubs as decide by the team. This will allow for them to address questions members may have. Early good of Kin- one of the was injured last night and is now in the hospital. Donations will be accepted to get her a makin LOVE robe for her hospital stay. Governor Jacquie was given a rasta wear hippy hat to wear for the meeting, keeping in tradition of past FLC meetings. 1 st Call for Bids for Kinette FLC 2014- High River submitted a bid to host the 2014 FLC. New Member Induction by Governor Jacquie and PG Pam. New members came to the stage and were given candles to light as part of the ceremony. New members inducted to the association and welcomed by fellow. DG Reports- as printed in the bulletin. Correction: Brooks Ladies Night Out March 28, 2014. Executive Reports- as printed in the bulletin. Service Report- Lisa Maggrah, D4 Service Director video presentation. 10 th year anniversary challenge out to become a STAR for STARS, challenging clubs to make first time donations or increase donations by 10%. CF 50 th Anniversary- challenging clubs to celebrate with greater donations. Limited number of 50 th anniversary CF partnership T-shirts available. The HREF/ Kin Bursary- if every club donated 1500 the fund could be self-sustaining. Please encourage clubs to donate and send in applications for students. It is also encouraged for Clubs to remember NDF, National Disaster Fund. We have had events in Alberta that make the need for this fund very apparent. Kin Kampout 2014 district-wide Kin Camp out in the planning stages; looking for locations. Email govs@d4kin.ca for ideas on locations. Rejuvenation Series- Vice Governor Cathleen Cooper-Martin Rumour has it. Reasons people join - Fellowship, networking, giving back to the community, meet people Rumours or irrelevant facts cause us to lose focus and drop the ball. Series is available from the Governors/ DG s. Series on the National Site- worth doing in your club to build teams and mitigate issues. 2nd Call for Bids for Kinette FLC 2014- no further bids came forward. Old Business - no old business to address New Business- no new business to address 3rd Call for Bids for Kinette FLC 2014- High River remains the only Bid coming forward. Election/Naming FLC Host Club FLC 2014 Motion to cease bids made by PK Mackenzie, Leduc and Seconded by Rhonda Ronaldson, Calgary. Question called. All in favor. FLC awarded to High River. District Secretary, Corie Brand, cast one vote in favour of Kinette FLC in High River 2014. Past Governor Pam spoke about the initial plan for the FLC. Theme- Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: an 80 s party. It will be held Oct 24-25 in Okotoks. More information to come. District 4 Foundation Report Tracy Wilson, Foundation Vice Chair provided the Foundation report. The Foundation s role is to assist your club in fundraising projects by being able to issue tax receipts for money or gifts in kind which can in turn increase donations. The Foundation received their first grant through the community spirit grant program. Clubs can apply for use of grant money for a variety of needs- parks, playgrounds, flood relief efforts. The Foundation board is finalizing the application process to access funds. Brochures on table to give more information on the Foundation. Presentation for given to Pam Moncrieff as a representative of the High River $2500 through the Raymond James Foundation through the District 4 Kin to High River in aid of the flood Relief. Announcements Kim Peters announced candidacy for the position of National Vice President. District Convention 2014 Presentation Richard Dieser presentation. Lots of Fun planned in Provost. There will be a hot tub in the VIP section and relaxing chairs. Registration forms in the bulletin and on the district Web site. Jacquie added that as in this meeting, the business portion will be reduced and items that can be reviewed in the bulletin will not be vocalized. This will leave plenty of time for fun and fellowship. As at National convention, there will be a Keynote speaker at District convention. Return of Regalia no returns at this time. Sergeant at Arms Report- Medicine Hat levied fines and made a motion for the funds to go to Cystic Fibrosis. Mimmi Olmsted seconded the motion. Question called. All in favour. Good of Kin Bonnie Joseph- given a token of appreciation for acting as Rules of Order. Ft. Edmonton Kin Feb 22 Princess Ball Dueling Pianos- Dec 22 Ft. Sask Kinette Club of Leduc- Will be hosting next years District Amazing Race (the Fire dept will be assisting) Edmonton Celebrating 75 years June 7 Christmas Hamper Nov 16 Dinner/ Silent auction $40 Nov 7 Cuts for Kids at Caffertys in Sherwood Park Thanks from Past National President Bonnie Joseph for the format of the FLC. Oct 27 Kin Kids Halloween Party Edmonton. CF Skunks available. Enough money was raised for the Kinette in the hospital for a robe and flowers. Medicine Hat announced $246.36 through fines to go to Cystic Fibrosis. Closing Remarks Host club announced that there are 15 teams for the Amazing Race- rules- The Race will work on the honor system and in some locations there may be a line up- most important thing is to have fun. Participants are encouraged to take a bottle of water. One person needs to be a DD. Teams need to be back at the latest by 5:30. Emergency contacts are posted in the package in case of emergency. Governor Jacquie Mvula- thank you for the cooperation in changing the FLC format.
