BRICKYARD BULLETIN VOL. 42, ISSUE 9 A MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF THE INDY CHAPTER OF THE STUDEBAKER DRIVERS CLUB, SEPTEMBER, 2015 From Our President HI STUDE GUYS & GALS; What a nice time we all had at Logan s Sunday, August 2 nd with a very good attendance. Thanks so much to Charlie and Becky for setting it up. I also want to thank everyone for making Linda Ferguson, my new lady friend, feel welcome. She has made me a happy guy. As I have stated, I ll be headed back to Florida at the end of October so I won t be here for nominations and election of officers, so GOOD LUCK with that. If anyone has pictures of our Studebaker banners, Turning Wheels would like to put them in an upcoming issue. There might be some pictures from the drags in Bean Blossom last May. The next thing on my agenda is, September 18 th & 19 th Pure Stock Drags in Stanton Mi., hope I m back in time to go to Charlie and Becky s Pitch-In on September 20 th. If anyone has any questions for me, please contact me. Also, say a prayer for our members you are having some health issues. Studebaker International in St. Louis August 11-16 By Nancy Baker The 2015 Studebaker International Meet is in the books now but what a great meet it was! We arrived on Sunday not wanting to miss out on any of the fun. We found the perfect shady corner parking spot for our 1956 Golden Hawk to spend the week and set up our chairs for a week of visiting friends old and new and polishing the car. Monday morning we visited the swap meet which was located in two air conditioned areas as well as in the covered parking garage and some vendors outside The Indy Chapter was represented at the meet by Bob Palma, Howe Clark, Andy and Teri Swartz, Danny Taylor, Dave and Diane Elmore, Marvin and Berniece Snider, Ed and Heidi Reynolds, and Joe and Nancy Bacon. We also saw past members Steve McNutte and Julie and Jack, their dog, who had moved to Florida. They were there selling their Studebaker. Thursday, the day of the concourse, was perfect! Sunny and 80 degrees with low humidity, could not ask for more than that in Missouri in August. Judging was done drive thru style as they are trying to find ways to get the judging done in a more efficient way. Our 1956 Golden Hawk and Danny Taylor s 1955 Speedster were the only Indy cars being shown and judged. We got a 1st place trophy Joe and Nancy Bacon s award winning 1956 Golden Hawk with 397 points out of 400! We had a wonderful time and saw some really great cars. The St Louis Chapter did a great job with the show and the media coverage brought in many people from the area to enjoy looking at the cars all week. Trophy was made with arch tram cable from the St Louis Arch! For more pictures go to: http://imageevent.com/donandgisela/2014sdcinternationalmeetinsl?rotp=3434&z=5&c=4&n=1&m=- 1&w=4&x=0&p=164 3

News About Our Members It is with great sadness that I report the passing of long time member and dear lady, Carol Reeves. The following is part of Carol s obituary: Carol Ann Huter Reeves, 74 of West Point, died 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015 following a lengthy illness, in St. Mary Healthcare, Lafayette. She was born June 24, 1941 in Indianapolis, daughter of the late Charles J. and Alma C. Batic Huter. She married Raymond Reeves, December 20, 1969 in Indianapolis and he survives. Carol Ann graduated from Pike Township High School and was employed by AT&T. Following her marriage she was employed by J.C. Penny & Co. for several years and was a housewife. She did volunteer work with St. Ann s and Indiana Heart Assn. as well as Tippecanoe County Fair. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, crafts, baking, cooking and crocheting afghans. Carol and her husband have a 1966 Studebaker Daytona which they enjoyed taking to car shows and were members of the Studebaker Drivers Club and the Indianapolis Chapter of the Studebaker Club. Carol with her son, Brian Reeves It was good to see both Larry Hopkins and Andy Swartz at the meeting August 2. Both have been battling health issues, Larry with a broken fibula in the ankle and Andy with blood clots and infections, but both are on the mend. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Congratulations to Ed Reynolds on making the cover of Septembers Turning Wheels. Be sure to read his article starting on page 28. Correction: Check our clubs website at www.indychaptersdc.org. This website will be posted on the page of officers under In Addition. Remember Saturday, September 12 th is Drive Your Day 4

It was quite a disturbing scene. People were rubber-necking and cell phones were snapping photographs that were being shared around the globe. The focus of everyone s attention was a mature, grey-haired lady in the throes of a panic attack. The woman was crying and muttering, Oh, no! I can t finish my Kindle book and I ve lost contact with my family and friends. FACT OR FICTION? Yes, that was me going through acute Techno Addiction withdrawal when our Internet connection was out of order. As a cardcarrying classic (Studebaker) car lover, who worked in a library filled with traditional books, it was indeed disturbing to realize that I had been lured into an overwhelming dependence on the world of Wi-Fi. Now, I am positive that if I ever received a phone call informing me that I had just won my choice of a car...an older classic car or one of today s newer designs, that I d choose the Classic option. No contest! But the intoxicating lure of my Kindle s ability to hold hundreds of books, along with the ease of accessing the Internet, pulled me away from classic paper and ink books. I was pulled farther and deeper into a world of dependence. I was utterly dependent on fully-charged batteries, Broadband speeds, and Internet connectivity. I had become a slave to Demon Technology. Then, because of that painful Internet outage, I saw the light! My lack of Internet service proved to be a gift from God. After being forced to go cold turkey, I am happy to report that I ve once again discovered the thrill of opening a new book and experiencing the unique sensory experience of touching REAL pages. I no longer need to wear sunglasses and sneak past Barnes & Noble with my head hanging low. And, my extensive bookmark collection has recently come out of retirement! Yes, today I am ready to stand tall and declare to the world: I am a Born Again Bibliophile! 5
