There was a need for a home away from home a place where all ages, races, and religions could come together to get healthy, grow, and play. With tremendous community support, including a $5M disaster grant from the former Conoco Phillips Alliance Refinery, the Y was able to open a facility in Belle Chasse. This state-of-the-art fitness, family, wellness, community center opened in 2011 and has been expanding programs to meet community needs ever since. Together our Plaquemines Parish YMCA s serve more than 9,000 people annually. The Belle Chasse YMCA offers outstanding programs and services, and also holds untapped potential. The addition of a gymnasium to the campus will enable the Belle Chasse YMCA to expand programming for families, youth, seniors, and military. As the only facility of its type in the Parish, the gymnasium will be available to community partners as a meeting, training, and event space. I encourage you to be part of this exciting expansion and grow stronger with the Belle Chasse YMCA. - Julie Nosser, Capital Campaign Chair 14

TRANSFORMING LIVES Capital Campaign Case for Support Since its opening, the Belle Chasse Y has served the entire Parish through events and programs that build the mind, body, and spirit for all. In an effort to deepen the Y s impact in our community, YMCA Board leadership determined expanding the campus to be a top priority. The main 21,000 square foot facility with modern architecture was built to include a wellness center, exercise studios, youth program space, and an outdoor aquatics center with recreational and lap pools, a splash park, and slides. Growing Stronger A community garden was built by volunteers as an educational resource for both youth and seniors. A 1/3 mile asphalt track and 5 acres of multi-use field space was developed allowing for expansion of youth and adult recreational opportunities. In collaboration with NBA Cares, the Chris Paul Foundation, and State Farm, a computer and technology lab was completed, expanding youth educational programs. 2011 2014 2015 2016 CONTINUING TO MEET COMMUNITY NEEDS In a parish of more than 23,000, there is currently no community gymnasium available. The gymnasium will meet the needs of the community in several ways including expanding youth and teen recreation, developing adult recreation, building community collaborations, expanding recovery shelter space, and growing senior wellness programs. Thanks to Phillips 66, our campaign has received a grant of $500,000 as the initial seed for the project. OUR VISION AND IMPACT Building Tomorrow s Leaders The addition of a gymnasium will allow us to greatly expand our youth programs, which focus not only on skill building and learning, but character, leadership, and team development. + 200 + 300 JOBS with training and leadership development opportunities created for youth and young adults More youth and teens served in quality and inclusive YOUTH SPORTS programs +25% Increase in the number of children that will have access to safe, active, and educational out-ofschool-time at YMCA SUMMER CAMP GIVE TODAY. FOR A STRONGER TOMORROW. Year round ADULT SPORTS leagues including basketball, volleyball, kickball and more! Leading Healthier Lives In a region with limited space and availability for special events and meeting rooms, the gym will serve as a space for community collaboration, special events, and other public service events. EXPANDED SENIOR WELLNESS and socialization opportunities to meet the need in our community. A Place for Community + 100% More participation in FITNESS CHALLENGES, PERSONAL TRAINING, AND WELLNESS OFFERINGS. The Y currently provides a base for emergency responders during natural disasters. With the additional square footage, we will be able to offer more resources and space to ensure an efficient disaster response and recovery process in our community.
