ROUND 18 ILINDEN SPORTS CENTRE 5PM SUNDAY 8TH JULY 2018 KICKOFF vs
CLUB WELCOME elcome to all of our supporters, sponsors, Wplayers and officials to the Ilinden Sports Centre for this big clash against Sydney Olympic. We are now into round 18 of the competition with the finish line to the competition closing in. We have 4 games after today s fixture to end the competition proper. Last weekend was a very important one for the club. We won in all 3 senior grades including an entertaining 4-3 win in first grade over the defending champions, Manly United. Apart from keeping us in touch for a semi-final spot in first grade, we picked up valuable club championship points moving us away from the bottom of the ladder. That said, it is a tight competition and as the results are showing, any team can win on their day. This week we take on league leaders Sydney Olympic. Our clashes against Olympic are always full of passion and this game promises to be no different. We are gunning for a top 5 spot and the boys will be looking to make it back to back wins. I was delighted to see our under 20 s get a much needed win on the weekend over Manly. It has not been an easy ride for the under 20 s, but they have been steadily improving and showing character in games. Likewise our under 18 s made it 5 wins on the trot and they are now entrenched in the top 5. FFA Cup Round of 32 Away from the league our big news is that our Round of 32 FFA Cup opponents will be none other than Sydney FC. By the time you read this, we hope to have announced that the game will be taking place at our home ground, the Ilinden Sports Centre. The game is taking place at 7:30pm on 1 August 2018. Tickets will sell fast for this game so get in early and purchase yours. Ilinden ball Is taking place on Saturday 28 July 2018. There are a few tables that remain for sale for this big event so if you would like to reserve a table, simply call one of our committee members. Around the grounds It is pleasing to see the progress of a number #NPLNSW of our SAP squads. They are without doubt our stars of tomorrow and they have been rapidly improving. Likewise, there have been some solid performances of late in our youth league. A special mention to our under 15 s who have continued improving. Over at our Juniors, we continue to see great performances from our little teams and there is a strong nursery of talent coming through the noncomp ranks. NPLNSW.COM.AU 1ST GRADE MATCH PREVIEW Rockdale City Suns are on the cusp of the top five and a win against rivals Sydney Olympic on Sunday would go a long way towards helping Paul Reid s side confirming a finals spot. The Suns were 4-3 winners against Manly United in a high scoring contest at Ilinden Sports Centre last week. Olympic were on the wrong end of a losing scoreline in Round 17 as the suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Blacktown City. Former Socceroos shot stopper Ante Covic will have his hands full on Sunday as he attempts to keep a clean sheet against the dynamic attack of Sydney Olympic. If anyone is able to stop them it is Covic. Radovan Pavicevic has played second fiddle to Alejandro Sanchez for most of the season, but the former Newcastle Jets rising star is set to play an important role on the run towards the finals. He offers Abbas Saad s side a variation in a attack which is important to breaking down the toughest defences. Rockdale have had trouble defensively this season and will need their best performance to limit Olympic. Olympic will be favourites away from home but Rockdale have the players to cause an upset. 1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN S POS TEAM P W D L F A GD PTS 1 Sydney Olympic FC 17 11 3 3 29 15 14 36 2 APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC 17 11 2 4 42 18 24 35 3 Sydney United 58 FC 17 9 2 6 28 20 8 29 4 Blacktown City FC 16 8 4 4 23 14 9 28 5 Marconi Stallions FC 17 6 5 6 22 26-4 23 6 Rockdale City Suns FC 17 7 2 8 33 38-5 23 7 Wollongong Wolves FC 17 6 4 7 18 29-11 22 8 Sutherland Sharks FC 17 6 2 9 23 26-3 20 9 Hakoah Sydney City East FC 17 5 4 8 25 26-1 19 10 Manly United FC 17 4 6 7 25 29-4 18 11 Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC 16 5 3 8 23 34-11 18 12 Sydney FC 17 3 3 11 21 37-16 12 5
MATCH REVIEWS #NPLNSW Rockdale City Suns 4 Manly United FC 3 at Ilinden Sports Centre A Harris Gaitatzis double has helped Rockdale City Suns return to the winners circle with a hard fought 4-3 victory against Manly United at Ilinden Sports Centre. Rockdale were forced to hold off a fast finishing Manly side after racing to a 3-1 lead in just over 45 minutes of action. It was a game that took a while to get going but in the end it produced seven quality goals. Manly United took the lead through Brendan Cholakian but Aleks Canak and Toufic Alameddine both scored for the home side prior to the break. Rockdale consolidated their lead early in the second half through Gaitatzis but Dylan McAllister hit back for the visitors to make it 3-2. However, Gaitatzis scored again before a late consolidation goal to Manly United rounded out the score line. Blacktown City 1 Sydney Olympic FC 0 at Lily Homes Stadium Sydney Olympic s Premiership chances suffered a major blow after they were stunned 1-0 by a determined Blacktown City side at Lily Homes Stadium on Sunday. A 50th minute goal from Joey Gibbs was the difference between the two sides as Blacktown returned to the winners circle for the first time since May. It was a game of many chances with the goalkeepers of Olympic and City the stand out performers as they kept their respective sides in the contest. Olympic fought hard but were unable to find an equaliser with defeat cutting their lead at the summit of the competition to only three points from second placed APIA Leichhardt Tigers. 6

NPLNSW.COM.AU U20 S MATCH PREVIEW The competition s bottom two comes together at Ilinden Sports Centre in the final match of the weekend in the NPL NSW Men s 20s; with Rockdale looking to put six points between themselves and Sydney Olympic, and Olympic hoping to rein the Suns back in. Rockdale picked up a stunning win over Manly in Round 17, snapping a four-match losing streak and move three points off the foot of the table. They now stand a good chance of finishing somewhere midtable, and could move level on points with APIA Leichhardt should they beat Olympic here, and Sutherland Sharks win at Lambert Park. Sydney Olympic suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Blacktown City last weekend, and are now alone in last place after Rockdale s win over Manly. These two last met in April at Belmore Sports Ground, when they shared the points after a 1-1 draw. 11
