Letter from the President... This is one of those months I have a lot to cover. Please carefully read this letter so you're aware of upcoming events and some forthcoming changes that will affect all dancers. This month Don has given us 5 good visitation opportunities. You won't want to miss them. The club picnic is Sunday, September 30, in Shawnee Mission Park. Johnson County Parks DO NOT ALLOW ALCOHOL. Possession or use of alcohol will result in detainment and prosecution. Thank you for your cooperation. Mainstream Lessons begin Monday, September 10. Tom has indicated many have shown interest in and committed to attending, most of the feminine gender. He asks that the male members in our club commit to being angels to these ladies. All of these events are on the September calendar plus Karen has made up flyers containing more details. For a number of years, the club treasury has been dwindling. This is not due to poor management, but to the decreasing number of dancers who attend. In order to just meet expenses which include hall rental, caller & cuer payment, 96 dancers per dance are required. Further expenses not being covered are association dues, advertising, website expenses, directories, office supplies which include copy paper and copies, dangles, coffee, stirrers, sugar, sweetener, paper and plastic goods for the kitchen. After much discussion, over a lengthy period of time, the Board has made the tough decision, beginning with the October 2 dance, to increase the donation at the door to $6 per person. It's the Board's responsibility to keep the club solvent. Club membership dues are due and payable September 1. Please renew now. Late renewals cause our corresponding secretary additional work in sending forms to the HOA for insurance and publications. Your timely cooperation is appreciated. See you on the dance floor! Bill Foreman In Remembrance (from Dan s daughter, Karen) My father, Dan Laden, sadly passed away May 19 th, 2018. Square dancing was a great part of his life. Mom passed Away in 1980. They are together and are now square dancing with the angels! swingin-singles.org September 2018 Newsletter 3
