Easter Bunny Open Hunters Run Gun Club Great Shoot! Take THAT, you wascally wabbit!! 27 participants, with a smaller but highly effective assault force from Mississippi with their Mobile ringer. Tom Wilz ran his first 100, in the 12 gauge. That dadburn sandbagger is not going to be in C class much longer! Darrell Loup and Mike Vickers joined Tom in the shootoff, with Mike outlasting both. Dave "Legend" Hebert ran the only 99 in the 28 gauge to win it outright. Congrats to Mike, Dave, Darrell and Tom. Tom and Carla turned in their usual super refereeing. Cedric helped with his scoreboard of superb draughtsmanship. Terry Case kept the scores (Thanks guys!) Jeanette Baudoin kept the registration perking along and Dave O'Quinn had the registration all sorted out by game time. (Great jobs!!) Carey spoiled us again, this time with Spaghetti and meatballs with the correct amount of Cayenne according to Cajun custom. Mmmm, good!!! And the fields looked good, too. Thanks, crew! Save the last weekend in May (May 29-30-31) for the Red Stick Memorial. Doubles and four guns. We're expecting a crowd. GET YOUR REGISTRATION TO DAVE SOON!!!!!!! Preference for four-gun shooters. Limit 60 shooters. Stuffed Porkchops from Benoit's on Saturday night!! More and exciting news coming in a week!! Here's where to pre-register. hrsc2008@bellsouth.net Article by: Ray Brandes Catfish Open Jackson Coach Bill McIntyre took Caleb Slocum and Codie Lindsay to the Catfish Open in Jackson, Mississippi. Codie shot a 99 / 100 in the 12 gauge event, earning D1 honors and Sub- Junior Champion. Are we talking raw talent or good coaching? Page 2 RED CHUTE GAZETTE

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 5 Page 3 North Louisiana Open Red Chute Shotgun Sports Club The North Louisiana Open was held May 1-3, 2009 at Red Chute Shotgun Sports Club. This year, we had 27 shooters vying for the honors. The weather was typical spring time weather. Friday s Doubles event and Saturday s 12 and 20 gauge events were blessed with pleasant temperatures and wind conditions. Early Sunday morning we were blessed with some torrential rains and high winds. Fortunately most of the really bad weather went South of us and by 10 AM we had clearing skies and pleasant temperatures again. We did loose a few contestants who let the weatherman scare them off. A few squadding adjustments and we were back in business. All in all the targets were good and we all had a great time. Lloyd Webb and Dave Faneuf grilled up some tasty burgers on Friday. On Saturday, Lloyd teased our taste buds with a fabulous noon meal of smoked pork tenderloin, quail and dirty rice. Louisiana Strawberry shortcake was also a big hit for dessert Saturday. Sunday we enjoyed pizza, salad and Debbie Frey s cherry dump cake. The winners are: Doubles Darrell Loup 96 CH William McIntyre 96 RU Charles Richardson 95 3 rd David P. North Louisiana Open Red Chute Shotgun Sports Club Lloyd Webb cooking on Big Bertha We want to thank Lloyd Webb and Dave Faneuf for cooking and to Paul Williamson, Dave Faneuf, Lloyd Webb, Gary Sullivan, Greg Teeters and Joe Norris for a great job refereeing the events. A very special thanks goes out to Debbie Frey for handling the registration and cooking that cherry dump cake. Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank my good friend Dana Vutera of Dana Vutera & Associates, Inc. in Baton Rouge for supplying most of the quail (for help with insurance and investments call Dana at 225-275-3262). VOLUME 1, ISSUE 5 Hat Shoot Event Page 7 The origins of this tradition are not known to me, but the custom is for squad mates to shoot the hat of any squad member shooting their first 25 straight (or 100 straight) in a gauge. At the 2009 North Louisiana Open, we had two such events. Junior shooter Caleb Slocum shot his first 25 straight in the 20 gauge. This was Caleb s third registered skeet shoot. The remarkable picture below provided by Marie Gardner shows Caleb s squad honoring him by blowing his hat to smithereens! Congratulations to Doug Walker from Monroe who also shot his first 25 straight in 12 gauge registered competition.

28 Gauge Marathon Bayou Boeuf Gun Club Debbie and I had the pleasure of pinch hitting for Wade Jones at the 28 Gauge Marathon in LeCompte on May 9 th, 2009. Wade had to attend the wedding of family friend in New Orleans and was afraid he would have to cancel the 28 Gauge Marathon. Fortunately, Debbie and I were able to step up and help out with the registration. Charles Richardson handled the score board and Jimmy Morrison took care of the machines and facilities. With every one pitching in we had a really nice time. There were 24 shooters vying for the honors and cash prizes. In addition to the fun of the competition, we had a delicious fried catfish feast that was catered by Ottis Monroe of Back Woods Catering, LLC in Forest Hill (318-748-7645). That was topped off by an assortment of pies from Lea s Lunch Room. Thank you for supplying dessert David Hebert. We appreciate the effort you had to expend to make that happen! (You ll have to ask David about his pie experience.) The weather was nice and warm. The shade trees at Bayou Boeuf Gun Club were enjoyed by all. The winners are: 28 Gauge David P. Hebert 197 CH Frank Randazzo 195 RU Charles Richardson 194 A1 James George 193 A2 Roddy Hurst 188 A3 Doug Frey 190 B1 Gordon J. Saltzman 190 B2 Kerry A. VOLUME 1, ISSUE 5 28 Gauge Marathon Bayou Boeuf Gun Club, cont. Page 9 Thanks to our referees, Sarah Trahan and Rachel DeVlugt. Great job ladies! Dan Gibbon had a good time in LeCompte. Russell and Terry Pop Case cool off between flights. It s always good to see families shooting together.

Ray Brandes reminded us to not speed on Louisiana highways and byways. He met one of the small town revenue generators South of Bunkie. Pre-registration is Important Now is the time to pre-register for shoots scheduled in late May & June. If you have a preference regarding flights, plan ahead. Wait to late and you may miss out on the fun. All the clubs sponsoring shoots want to make the events enjoyable for the contestants. Pre-registration helps us to be prepared and helps eliminate a lot of stress for you and shoot management. $ Buy, Sell or Trade $ If you have something shooting related that you want to buy, sell or trade, advertise it here in the Red Chute Gazette Want Ads.
