RCC JUNIORS PHILOSOPHY Every Child a Better Cricketer It is our responsibility as coaches to ensure that the RCC Juniors Philosophy as outlined in the RCC Juniors Fair Play Guide of Every Child a Better Cricketer becomes alive. Brand of Cricket We play an attacking brand of cricket where players can express the best of themselves fully while maintaining respect for the Spirit of Cricket. *See RCC Juniors H.E.R.O Coach for details 4

RCC Juniors H.E.R.O. Coaches Are you a H.E.R.O? H - Humble We know the ethos of cricket and we take care to live up to the Spirit of the Game and the Playing Conditions for the leagues we play in. We uphold the RCC Juniors Philosophy and the guidelines within the RCC Juniors Coaching Guide through our intention, attitude and behaviour on and off the field. E - Energetic Environment We are passionate about cricket and don t mind showing it. We are energetic and have a sense of urgency and excitement about us when we coach at practice and matches. RCC Juniors expect that you show up as the best version of yourself every week. R - Reach We reach for more, for better. We are not satisfied unless we have done the best we can. Therefor we are open to feedback and ready to learn and grow. O - Organised We are prepared and ready to coach the cricketers at the club by having plans in place for practice & matches, the amount of time we spend with each child and on delivering the RCC Juniors Coaching Guide. 5

Coaching the Brand Coaching Batting We encourage our cricketers to hit the ball. When we say hit the ball, we mean making clean contact with the ball with bat that swings at pace. We are looking for big bat swings which can generate more speed to hit the ball as hard/ far as possible with as little effort as possible. Having said this we also encourage and coach sound defensive skills as these are also needed to stay at the crease for long periods. Bowling We encourage our bowlers to have actions that are legal, efficient, safe and effective. Legal: straight arm through release of the ball. Efficient: we follow basic biomechanics principles. Safe: to reduce the risk of injury. Effective: to develop as many bowling skills as possible within their chosen bowling type (spin, fast etc). Fielding & Wicketkeeping We encourage our cricketers to know fielding positions, understand their role on and off the field as well as the ability to move fast (agility), pick up balls cleanly on the move, catch balls from all angles and have accurate throws. 6
