Our thoughts and prayers go out to Walter s family. 2014 membership dues may be paid star ng now. It s easy to forget to pay dues every year. If you do you banking online, you can use the online bill pay feature to create an annually recurring payment to the club to pay your dues. Be sure to put Annual Dues in the check memo line. November is right around the corner which means that it is me for elec ons for the Board of Directors. If you need a club affiliation identification card for purchasing Civilian Marksmanship Program material from Camp Perry, come to a membership meeting to pick one up from Ell Vines. The Nomina ng Commi ee was appointed and consists of the following members: Dave Faust - Chairman Brian Fink Mike Ligman Ray Nist Bill Phillips The Nomina ng Commi ee recommends all of incumbent Directors for re-elec on. President Obama signed an execu ve order preven ng the importa on of military rifles lent or sold to ally countries. Rumors immediately circulated that this would essen ally kill the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The CMP pointed out that they do not reimport the rifles, so this execu ve order will not affect them. However, importers such as Century Interna onal Arms will not longer be able to reimport M1 Garands and M1 Carbines from South Korea.

3 ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE BOARD Important Notice Regarding Penalty for Late Payment of Dues A growth in membership over the past several years has placed a bigger strain on those responsible for the record keeping in the club. Several members have been sorely late in paying their dues and this has placed additional burden on club members charged with administrative duties. While the club has been extremely lenient in past years, this will not be the case for 2014. All club members will be subject to comply with the following bylaws (the deadline has be extended to March 15 th and will be absolute ) : Sec on 2.11. Dues and Ini a on Fee. Club dues and ini a on fees shall be determined from me to me by the Board of Directors. Dues for the calendar year become due and payable during the month of January of that year. If payment has not been received on or before February 15 of that year, the Secretary shall no fy the member that he has been dropped from membership and reinstatement can only be effected in accordance with Sec on 2.9. Sec on 2.9. Reinstatements. Any member, who has resigned or lost his membership for failure to pay annual dues, may be reinstated upon wri en applica on to the Membership Commi ee and payment of the then-applicable ini a on fees and annual dues. The present Dues listed on the website are as follows: Active Member: Dues are $75 per year. Senior Member: Senior members are members who have been members for 10 consecutive years and are 65 years of age. Dues are $30 per year. Intermediate Member: Dues are $30 per year. Junior Member: Dues are $10 per year. The Current Initiation Fee is $100. Simply put dues paid after March 15, 2014 are late, and members will be subject to Section 2.9 of the Bylaws for Reinstatement. 2013 Hunter s Challenge Benefits Sgt. Doug Vitale, USMC ret. 4 When: Sunday, October 6 at 9:30 am Where: Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen s Club 476 Linden Rd., North Strabane, PA 15317 Who: This event is open to the public. Competitors must have intermediate to advanced shooting experience. No beginners for safety reasons. Must be at least 14 years old. Ages 14-17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Why: This is a charity event to raise money towards building a handicap accessible home in Peters Township for Sgt. Doug Vitale. Sgt. Vitale was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan. He put it all on the line for his country, and this is an opportunity to give back while having some fun and enjoying the company of fellow sportsmen. $25 minimum donation Match Overview 20 shot match. Competitors will fire rapid and slow fire stages at Whitetail deer, Coyote, and Groundhog targets to test both speed and accuracy. Only center fire rifles legal for taking game in Pennsylvania are permitted (Bolt, level, or pump actions. No semi-autos). Scopes are permitted. Great practice before hunting season! Welcome to Nelson Solow who was a first time shooter for the High Power although he has participated in the CMP program. Top honors for the day belongs to Miles Ford as he continues to shoot the hot scores; this time with a 482-9X. Each shooter continues to improve and always has a great time. The next match is scheduled for Saturday September 7 th. All are welcome to come out and try this really enjoyable shooting event. Keep in mind that the 2013 Season is drawing to a close and that there are only two more High Power Matches remaining.

Allan Jaworski, after a four month hiatus, took top honors with a strong 481-15X. Good shooting Allan! John Husk continues to shoot great scores using his scoped match rifle (496-21X) and Miles Ford shows his talents with a clean rapid sitting (100-1X). Tom Morley demos a strong score with a 471-10X and Bonnie Popso continues to set new personal records with a 402-2X. John Tupta continues his improvement streak for this season as well. The final match of the 2013 High Power Season will be on Saturday October 12 th.

Great shoo ng for all of the par cipants, as it was another fun day at the range. The following cutoff scores will apply during the 2013 Na onal Matches: Gold 352+, Silver 339-351, Bronze 324-338, T Shirt 400 or below.

We also welcome guests Jim Mar n and Michael Kennedy. Bruce Ungar with his well-tuned M1 scored the top honors with a very impressive 284-3x. Excellent shoo ng, Bruce! At the upcoming Na onal Matches the following scores will earn medals: Gold 280+, Silver 272-279, Bronze 262-271. Nice shoo ng to all par cipants!

Twelve shooters had the opportunity to hone skills in preparation for the upcoming National Matches at Camp Perry. The course of fire was thirty rounds plus sighting shots (ten rounds per stage). As you can see there was a nice selec on of classic military rifles represented at the match. (Any an que rifle is welcome at this match) There were several of the compe tors that were prac cing for the Pa. State Championships and in general everyone had their game faces on. Ted Hildebrand won with the overall match high score just narrowly edging out Dave Willard. Way to go Ted and Dave! As a side note, Ted won this compe on last fall also and he gets to keep the coveted HILDEBRAND TROPHY for another year. Everyone needs to keep in mind that some of these rifles that were made well before most of us were born. I want to THANK everyone who came out and competed and helped with the match because without the effort of a number of individuals events like this would not happen.
