Presidents Review: This year is flying by. With the picnic this week and the summer months fading into memories, it s now time to focus our attention to the fall activities. We have two remaining ATA shoots as well as sporting clays events planned. We also are looking forward to, and are preparing for the upcoming hunting season along with our annual Turkey shoot and various club activities. If you have any questions on either subject, please contact our hunting director Chuck Feuilian or trap chairman Rick Gibbs. Our new sound system has been installed and should provide understandable announcements in the clubhouse. This new system will allow us to cut off outside speakers and play music or CDs wherever we designate. Thanks for your efforts in completing this task, Fredrick Family. Once again our board has been faced with making two more difficult decisions in suspending shooters from shooting at our club. Mr. Art Jablonski had his Shooting Membership suspended for three months as a result of his gun accidentally discharging at the July ATA shoot. This could have been a very bad situation. We were very fortunate that nobody was injured. Also, Mr. Leland Hassler (not a DGSC member) from Princeton,IL is being suspended indefinitely for shooting a chipmunk during the handicap event. While a loader was in the trap house, this also could have resulted into a very serious matter. Again, we were lucky that no one was injured. The ATA will be notified in writing of both incidents. Please people, use common sense while on the firing line or at the club. Club rules are also going to be posted outside and within the clubhouse. Enjoy your club, and please be safe. Dean K 2009 DGSC Picnic has come and gone. Many said this was one of our best yet! Thank you to all the volunteers that made the day go very smoothly, and a huge THANK YOU to my wife Marianne for all her support and help. I hope everyone had a great time and enough food to eat. Thanks again! Vice Presidents Review: Membership has peaked out and there are several waiting to join after the first of the year as dues paid now will only be good until 12-31. Again poor response to getting updated FOID and NRA to the Membership Box by mail or hand carried. During September I will again post a list of members needing updates. Another Member has been suspended for violating basic Safety rules that resulted in a near miss accident. Keep an eye out for safety practices of new shooters and experienced ones too. A gentle reminder is far better than disciplinary action. Be safe and enjoy what warm weather we have left! Renew Your NRA at the Club Jan G Jim O Don t forget we will be running an incentive program this year. All senior and shooting members that renew their membership or sign up for the first time with the N.R.A. at the club will be eligible for a drawing we will have at general membership meeting in December 09. The hunting seasons are here, it is time to get the Field Gun out of the closet and clean it and bring it out to the club and make sure it is working properly! We are working on getting a steel patterning board set up with the paint/lithium grease on it so there is no need to bring out the paper, tape, or scissors if you wish to determine the point of impact or the pattern on your shotgun. This target WILL NOT be for slugs, nor was the last patterning board for slugs! Some one used it to pattern their gun with slugs and shot it to pieces. Also, due to bounce back with the steel plate you will have to be at least 25 yards back from the plate to avoid the chance of being hit with a stray pellet. Our Club was well represented in the winners circle at the Grand American in Sparta this year. Deb F. Is going to have a complete listing of those that won events or placed in them posted so that you can see who from a club was a champ. The kids team won First Place in their division in the AIM portion of the Grand the very first time that they competed together as a team! There were several personal bests recorded and one of our youth shooters Nick M. Gained two and a half yards in his handicap yardage while at the Grand. It was exciting to watch these very dedicated young shooters in their first national championships, and I look forward to seeing them win a lot more both together as a team and as individuals. Our last ATA event was well attended with over 120 shooters, and over 27,000 targets thrown during the day. Weather conditions were perfect except for the lighting towards the end, and of course the Kassmans delivered us another good meal with all of the trimmings. If you don t shoot ATA just come out and either help with the club shoot or try a few rounds on either the 5-Stand or walk-thru sporting clays course. And of course we have a trap and skeet field open for use. We do have two more ATA events scheduled for the NEW target year and these targets will count towards next years requirements as the ATA has made right on last years mistake! And congratulations to Greg Vandyne for his 25,000 th target shot during ATA competition. A cake was their for all to enjoy! The Club Picnic was a huge success, and I would like to thank all those that volunteered their time and efforts to make it happen. The food was tasty, the beer was cold, and all of the kids had a blast and won something in the games! The Gronychs really know how to put on a good time for all of us, and it really does take a lot of effort to make this picnic happen. Oh and the sweet corn, did I tell you about the sweet corn... I don t think that we are going to have much of a fall this year, but don t put away the trap/skeet/sporting clays just yet. As I mentioned ATA season is still going on, we will have a fall Doubles league, and of course turkey shoots will be here soon. I am figuring on opening up on one Wednesday a month for ATA targets only shooters to help those that wish to register targets, along with a day here or there on Saturday depending on demand. It will take a minimum of 3 shooters for either singles, handicap or doubles but you will be able to shoot what you want as long as there are three of you! See you on the firing line! With the hunting season approaching we wanted to highlight that Robbie grandson Rick G. of member Bob Ivy Iverson last fall was named Jr World Champion in Duck calling contest in Easton, MD and 2nd in Jr World Goose calling contest. Over Thanksgiving weekend he won the Intermediate World Championship Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart AR. He also placed 7th in the World Open Goose Calling contest. So far this year Robbie won the IL State Open Duck and Goose, 1st time for a single person to win both events, and Robbie is only 16! Good luck with the rest of this year s competitions. Remember if you have any special announcements please contact Debra Fredrick

PAGE 3 DGSC NEWS NETWORK VOLUME 9, ISSUE 9 Hunting and Fishing Review: Hunting rules for the '09-10 season are available at the club. Hunting privileges are for Senior members only. A Senior member's spouse and children, under the age of 21, may hunt at the club only when accompanied by the Senior member. Please remember that the farmer pays rent for our crop land and as long as there are crops in the field we are to stay out of them. Deer Hunters:If you are going to leave a tree stand up during the season be sure to put your name and a telephone # you can be reached at on it. Any unmarked stand found on club property will be removed. Also there are tags in the hunters room in the pole barn, write your name and phone # on a tag and hang it on the map. The youth pheasant hunt is on October 25th. Pheasants Forever has contacted us and would like to help us run the event. I hope to have details worked out and sign up information ready by the membership meeting. Chuck F Grounds Review: Greetings DGSC Members, I had a meeting with Grundy County Engineer Craig Cassem and he informed me that the Old Stage Road will not be started this year do to problem with the gas right of way. He said that construction will be started in the spring of 2010. The county may start with tree clearing on the right of way this fall and winter. Also I have submitted forms to the USDA to put in a Wind Brake along the open area on Nettle School Road. It consists of 825' long and 30' wide for a total of 1.2 ac. The CRP program will pay for 90% of trees, shrubs and grasses and will pay us rent on the land for 15 yrs like the other programs that we have. It will have to come out of production but we will receive a higher rent for it. We have to do the planting and prep work, and our share will be about $300-400 when complete. I have also applied for a federal program to install a Living Fence along Old Stage Road when the construction is complete. That consists of either the USAD will pay for 100% of the trees and hedges with little or no rent on the property, or a program that will pay for 50% of trees and hedge but will pay for rent like the CRP program. The cost to us will be $1500-2000. This will be offset by the yearly rent payment. The programs will not be confirmed until some time later this year in October. We will be offered a contract and told the total USDA payment and we can choose which one we want if any. If we accept the plantings have to be completed with in One (1) Year from signing. I hope everyone has a good time at the Picnic this year and the rain quits for a spell. Al M 5 Stand/Sporting Clays Review: The 1st DGSC Sporting Clay League is about to finish up. At least 5 rounds must be completed by Sept 6 th in order to be in the running for prizes. However if you managed to shoot your 5 rounds early you can continue shooting and your top 5 scores will be used. Aug was a pretty busy month and many ventured out on the 13 station Sporting Clay Course. In Aug we also had another club shoot and once again Jake U finished with high score, and new comer David Fredrick got bird friendly. Thank you to everyone that helped out again with the loading of targets and cook out. September s shoot date is moving to Sunday Sept 13 th. Flurries are in the forecast so come out for a very interesting afternoon. The sporting clay course will also be open that day as well. With the flurries you can shoot 3 times with the same partner, lets face it 3 rd times the charm. However you can shoot again and again, just after 3 with the same partner you need to switch. If you have any questions, are waiting for a prize, or would like to volunteer please contact Mark G or Debra F. Mark G
