Instead, members are more than welcome to shoot from the camera area near the opposing team s dugout, the area behind the fence between the Bulldogs dugout and their bullpen (not the bullpen itself) and from the stands. When the baseball team is on the road, the policy regarding the media s access near the Bulldogs dugout will remain in effect. NOTES ON THE SERIES SERIES HISTORY Louisiana Tech and Stephen F. Austin have met on the diamond 23 times in the history of both programs with Tech holding a 17-6 advantage over Stephen F. Austin. The Bulldogs have won 10 of the last 11 meetings against the Lumberjacks, including a 9-5 victory for Tech in 2012 at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. This weekend s matchup with the Lumberjacks will be the second meeting between the teams this season, after Tech dropped a 10-5 contest to Stephen F. Austin earlier this season at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches. SCOUTING THE LUMBERJACKS Stephen F. Austin (8-8) will ride into Ruston having won five of its last six games, including an 8-3 victory over I-20 foe Grambling State Wednesday. The Lumberjacks will send right hander Chase Greening to the mound Friday night to start things off versus the Bulldogs. Greening is 1-1 on the year with a 2.95 earned run average. Right handers Kyle Cross and Cameron Gann are scheduled to get the start on the mound for Stephen F. Austin for Games 2 and 3 of the series on Saturday and Sunday respectively. LA TECH vs. STEPHEN F. RHP Phil Maton will return to the mound after a historic freshman season where he was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team after posting an 8-5 record and a team-leading ERA of 2.93 in his rookie season with the Dogs. Junior shortstop Ryan Gebhardt will also return to the middle of the infield after earning All-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2012 for the second consecutive season. TECH WELCOMES NCAA REGIONAL PARTICIPANTS TO J.C. LOVE FIELD The Bulldogs are set to face six teams that made the NCAA Baseball Tournament in 2012 in a combined 21 games scheduled this coming season against those teams, 11 of those to take place on Tech s home field in Ruston. Those six teams include midweek matchups against Baylor and Rice, as well as series against UT Arlington, New Mexico State, Dallas Baptist and Oral Roberts. Playing a total of 56 games, Tech will host eight home series, five of those being Western Athletic Conference contests, including marquee matchups against Nebraska, Oral Roberts and Stephen F. Austin. DUDLEY RETURNS TO THE MOUND AFTER HISTORIC SEASON This season will mark the return of record-breaking closer Caleb Dudley after taking the top spot in the record books in 2012 when he broke the career saves record with a total of 23 over the course of three years. Dudley broke the record with his 19th save against Grambling on April 4, 2012 after clinching a 4-1 win for the Bulldogs. BEST FINISH The 2012 Bulldogs won more WAC Tournament games than any other team in school history and advanced to the tournament s semifinal game (3-2). With the three wins, Tech advanced one game further than its previous best in a tournament, which was a 2-2 record in the 2011 WAC Tournament. NEW BLOOD After losing junior Jeb Stefan and seniors Justin Gordey and Alex Williams to the 2012 MLB Draft and graduation, the Bulldogs will see a new firstbaseman and an updated outfield in 2013. Junior Taylor Burch will take the place of Gordey in center, while junior college transfer Tyler Ervine will hold down the fort at first for the Bulldogs this season. #13 Wade Simoneaux Head Coach 11th Season Nicholls State, 1984 Head coach Wade Simoneaux COACHING RECORD Career Record: 263-298-1 Record at LA Tech: 263-298-1 WAC Record: 104-153 Entering his eleventh season at the helm of the Louisiana Tech baseball program, Wade Simoneaux has turned the Bulldogs into perhaps one of the more prolific offensive teams in the south. In just 11 seasons with the Bulldogs, Simoneaux has compiled over 250 wins and has turned J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park into a true home field advantage as LA Tech has built a.686 winning percentage since 2006. In 2012, Simoneaux continued to impress Bulldog baseball fans by guiding his team to a semifinal appearance in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, the best showing of any other team in the program s history. Tech finished the season 27-28 after winning three straight contests in the WAC Tournament while facing elimination in each game. Simoneaux added another freshman all-american to the list as Phil Maton led the team in earned run average and wins as a freshman for Simoneaux and his staff. Simoneaux also had three of his Bulldog players selected to the all-wac team as Ryan Gebhardt was named to the first team, while Jamie Gilley and Alex Williams were both second team selections in 2012. Over the past seven seasons Simoneaux has totaled over 200 wins including three 30-plus win seasons. The seven year stretch marks the most successful period for a Bulldog head coach since 2003-Present Pat Patterson and Mike Kane combined to win 171 games between 1988 and 1992. Plain and Simple, Simoneaux has returned a winning tradition to Louisiana Tech as evident by the 18 student-athletes selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, six all-americans, three freshman all-americans, one ESPN The Magazine s Academic All-American and 31 all-wac performers. Simoneaux has orchestrated the renovation of J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. The coaches and players have done almost all of the work as the facility has seen many changes and improvements. A new fence was installed and recently the team renovated its locker room, along with adding a new coat of paint on the stadium. The field is in its best shape in years due to the many hours Simoneaux, his staff and players have put in working on it. More than 400 new chairback seats were installed prior to the 2008 season, along with a new scoreboard and a new press box. Tech s housing department aided in improving the look and feel of the ballpark by building apartments just beyond the left field wall. The addition of a new brick and wrought iron fence has also helped the stadium s appearance. A visitor s bullpen was added during the 2006-07 offseason down the right-field line. Simoneaux and his staff will renovate the batting cage in the summer time, making it twice the size it is now by next season. 29
