This month Sterling says I first want to talk about vents on the transfer case and the differentials. For a long time we installed a small 2-3 lbs. vent, to the top of the transfer case and differential tubes, these would let out pressure if needed and not let moisture back in (photo 1&2). As we know the transfer case turns really fast and can on occasion send a little fluid out of the vent. On the differentials if the vehicle is parked on a side slope you can also lose fluid out of the vent. For quite a while now we have been raising the vents for both the transfer case and differentials to a containment canister via a hose, the canister has a vent on the top (photo 3,4&5). This improvement provides expansion room and eliminates fluid loss. If you vehicle does not have these Extended Vents then we can easily add them, or we can sell you a kit to install yourself. The next thing I want to talk about is motor mounts and how our system is affected if they are worn. To fit our design we need to hard mount the transfer case at a slight forward angle and then we must keep that same angle through the transmission and engine. The angle is approximately 5 to 5.5 degrees (photo 6). The engine has one center mount in the back (photo 7) and one on each side of the engine where it is connected to the transmission (photo 8). If these mounts are worn then that would effect the 5 to 5.5 degree angle that we are trying to maintain. The mounts at the engine-transmission connection handle the most weight and so are susceptible to permanent compression, if so this will increase the angle going into the transfer case. Out of angle will cause wear at the transfer case and also possibly cause clearance problems with the fan shroud. These engine-transmission mounts can be adjusted with shims (photo 9). Again the best way to check the angle is to look at the short drive line going from the transmission to the transfer case, move the drive line to a position as shown in photo 6, and set an angle gauge on it. Call with any questions. Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Photo 4 Photo 5 Photo 6 Photo 7 Photo 8 Photo 9 Page 2 of 7

Al Schampers (left) with Steve Bauer of Track Inc. 2008 On August 8th Tucker Sno-Cat Corporation lost one of its long time customers, Mr. Al Schampers of Kaukauna, WI. Al was known as the dairyman who loved his SnoCats, he purchased 17 of them from a 1973 to a 2016! He was well known to all the employees here at Tucker because he always drove out to pickup his new vehicles. While he was here he put on his famous "Wisconsin Brat Fry", which was an all day affair and nobody went home hungry. In addition to being a farmer and snowmobile trail groomer Al was the Wisconsin Rep for our dealer Track Inc. and attended shows with his new vehicles regularly. Back in 1980 Tucker sold 8 Sno-Cats to Turkey and Al went over twice to do training. He had a lot of stories to tell about the language barrier and foods that he had never seen before. One of the best stories was while instructing one of the new operators how to drive, the operator then ran into a occupied guard tower, knocking it down and both ending up facing drawn guns!
