SPRING BREAK Unfortunately this year, spring break is right in the middle of our competitive schedule. We will have two Saturday meets, a dual and practices throughout. The practice schedule is as follows, individual event coaches may hold additional practices. Our break looks like this: Saturday, March 25 th - Strongsville Elite Meet Monday, March 27 th - Practice- 9:00-11:00 Tuesday, March 28 th - TBA Wednesday, March 29 th - Dual vs. Berea/Midpark Thursday, March 30 th - No Practice Friday, March 31 st - Practice- 9:00-11:00 Saturday, April 1 st Avon Lake EQUIPMENT NEEDS Water Bottle - Proper hydration is of utmost importance. Training Shoes - Name brand, maximum built-up cushioning. If you have had some training shoes in the past and they have been successful for you, stay with that type or similar. Racing Spikes (optional, but mandatory for some) Throwers can really benefit from having throwing shoes. High Jumpers jump shoes. Cold Weather Clothes Be prepared for any temperature by bringing several layers of clothing. GLOVES, HAT or ear band or earmuffs are mandatory on some days. On any given day, you can choose less or more layers. Warm Weather Clothes - Remember that overdressing can be a big problem in any kind of weather. Once you start exercising, your body temperature will go up. However, weather can change drastically during any day in spring. Be prepared for cold or warm. Stopwatch (wrist style or hand held) - This is mandatory for all runners. K-mart and other department stores carry very inexpensive ones. INJURIES Prevention is the best medicine - Report discomfort to your coach immediately, especially in shin areas. We need to catch these things right away, or you may end up out of action indefinitely or for the season! Coach can suggest a treatment - this would be for minor ailments that we catch hopefully in time. Example: Alternate training for a few days, ice often, and Advil or Aleve (with parent approval). Trainer - See the trainer if ailment is not responding to initial treatment and rest. Sports Doctor - May be suggested by a Trainer or Coach. In some cases, because of specific types of insurance coverage you my have, you may have to see a regular doctor. This is definitely not as good as a Sportsmedicine Specialist for your sport and injury. After an athlete sees a doctor, he/she is required to bring a note from the doctor to share with coach, in regard to the athlete s current status. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RUN IF THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN! Most injuries are due to Training Error OR Physiological Imbalance OR both. Proper shoes are critical. Lack of sleep and nutritional problems can cause numerous problems also.

NUTRITION Water - best possible way to re-hydrate and stay hydrated. After a long or hard workout, you are still dehydrated even when you quench your thirst. You should be drinking a gallon of water a day, throughout the day. Drink water all day long. Sports Drinks - not as good as water for hydration. However, sports drinks are excellent for replacing electrolytes and carbohydrates needed for energy. Eat High Energy Replacement Foods - especially fruits and vegetables. Stay away from excessive sweets and fatty foods. The sooner you eat after a hard workout, the better. Eat a lot! Just eat more good things! You need to replace energy. Junk is only o.k. in moderation. Read/Pay Attention to LABELS for fat content. Diet pills, Red Bull, and other GIMMICKS are not intelligent choices and may be dangerous. UNIFORMS Uniforms will be distributed in excellent condition and are expected to be returned in that condition. Please wash with a mild detergent and hand dry (do not put in dryer) Also, the weather is cold and the uniforms are thin. Any under garment MUST follow the following requirements: White colored Under Armor type of garment for the top. Black colored Under Armor type of garment for the bottom. EACH garment is allowed ONE label. For example, if your garment says UA on the front and a tag with Under Armor on the back it is illegal! You will need to remove or black out one of the labels. Also, each garment MUST be one color, multi colored garments are illegal. These are not our rules and they need to be followed. Absolutely no other color undergarment will be permitted as this is our uniform. Florescent colors, green, pink, etc. will not be allowed.
