Inc. Newsletter for the Sentral Illinois Radio Society, Bloomington, IL A.M.A. Chapter 621 July, 2006 SIRS Open House July 15th Get the word out July 15th is the SIRS Open house. All pilots, Helicopters, and planes are encouraged to come out and fly that day. Invite your neighbors, coworkers and friends. Even if you don t feel like flying come show off your latest project. This event is open to the public so they can see what the R/C flying hobby is all about. There will be raffles for various items including a Funtana airplane. Lunch is also going to be available. So come on out and enjoy the day with your fellow modelers and friends. See the flyer on Page 4. Rare Large Bird caught nesting in Tree: This large bird was spotted in Springfield June 25th. It may look vaguely familiar since it makes occasional visits to the SIRS field. Oh by the way thanks to Karl Laun for this wonderful picture he caught on film. In this issue... Meetings begin at 7:00pm during the winter (CST) and 8:00pm during the summer (CDT). 2

Aviation camp makes annual visit: Chuck Tarbox sent in these pictures of the annual visit of the Prairie Aviation Museum camp from Bloomington. Thanks to Jerry Worden, Gene Barker, Father Ric and Merle Jackson for helping out. And a big Thanks to Chuck for all of his help as well. Looks everyone had a good time. 3

The concern of safety at the SIRS field has been in the air as much as the r/c planes. I have talked to some club members recently and I thought I would put out my two cents on the topic. I have heard Gene Barker sum up safety at the field by saying this..."you can have all the rules in the world and they don't mean a dam thing if nobody enforces them" To that I say..."well put Gene". What I am getting at is I think the only safety rule that needs to be followed is, if you see something that is not safe, it is your responsibility as a club member to say something to the person that you feel is being unsafe. I feel that in almost all cases that the person in question would be happy to correct the situation. I know this sounds funny but I do believe that sometimes you might not realize something could be a safety issue until somebody tells you. We all enjoy flying and sometimes we might want to get in the air just a little to quick. So if we stick together as a club that wants a safe field, and everyone that fly's strides for a safe field, there should not be a safety problem. I love being a part of the SIRS club. It keeps me going. Lets keep it fun. Tom Kirk Recognized for Flying Skills! (taken from AMA website) Ten-year-old Empire Hobby pilot Kyle Stacy, AMA number 790921, had the opportunity for the flight of a lifetime. ABC contacted Kyle and his father Ray Stacy about appearing on the new reality show, Master of Champions. The show, which is about people who possess unique or special skills for various activities, will feature Kyle on an episode that is scheduled to air on a Thursday in late July. Scott Larson, producer of the show Fear Factor, contacted Kyle after learning of his exceptional RC helicopter piloting skills through Internet forums. The producers of the show will have Kyle and his T-Rex helicopter compete against seasoned helicopter pilot Bryce Hatfield for the title Master of Champions by assigning specific challenges to each pilot. Kyle and his family were flown to Los Angeles for four days to practice for the challenge and shoot the show. Kyle has been flying helicopters with his dad for 3-1/2 years. He is currently the youngest member of Team JR. Be sure to watch as Kyle demonstrates his piloting skills on Master of Champions. Additional information regarding Kyle can be found on his Web page: www.kylerocks.com.
